How to convert the coin texture from IA16 to RGBA16?

I'm trying to import a custom coin texture, but I don't want to have that piss-yellow tint, so I tried to find tutorials to do so, but the results are either really close but not it or just none.

Where did the b3313 smoke texture come from?

I checked media coverage about SM64 around 1995 and found that the smoke texture there is completely different compared to B3313's texture, so where do theirs come from?

Did a little research on SM64's early builds and found screenshots of the penguin having two different expressions when grabbing the baby. Are they from different builds, or is the penguin either angry or sad when picking up the baby penguin?
