Open Source

This has been bouncing around my head the last few days and I'm going to throw it out there.

Given the seismic shakeup of NAM A2 hitting the modeling industry, I'd argue that the landscape is permanently changed. That said, I think the position that companies like Line 6, Fractal or Kemper find themselves in is MUCH different than it was years ago and I think they will only survive this transition by selling the best hardware to run NAM models on like the way we run IRs on all our pedals now.

So here's what I'm getting at, considering how small and lightweight the Nam A2 Lite models are I think someone like Line 6 should either open up the software for their old pedals like the Pod HD500 for people to modify or release a new firmware that can load NAM files. I'd even consider paying for that firmware to keep my old pedals useful.

There's a WHOLE LOT of guitar based e-waste out there and making a big, public show of a real effort to make their gear useful in modern times would help keep people interested in the brand.

This is the end of my rant.

Thoughts?

Virtual instrument monitoring

I've got two things today.

Firstly,

I like to use a midi controller and an organ synth for pitch references when I'm recording vocals and there's not a way to monitor a synth channel without also recording it. Think the green button on a channel in pro tools. It'll pass audio, but won't record.

Secondly,

I've been having a lot of clicks and pops when I start adding plugins to my session. I don't have the best computer in the world, but it handles bigger sessions in Reaper and Pro Tools all the time. It's not a driver thing for sure, because it works great if I disable all the plugins.

Erasing

I honestly havent even tried this yet because of the destructive editing but is there an option to more or less snip out a section of tape?

I did a session where we recorded 5 songs and we have alternate takes that are kind of just wasting time to nagivate around. Is there or could there be an option to snip out tape from time X:XX to X:XX?

Delay Compensation (again)

I'm doing a big project in my home studio with Tape16 and I kind of boned myself. I recorded a full drum kit through my analog console with tons of external processing on the way in and bussed everything down to a stereo pair.

Long story short, I've started doing some guitar and bass and I noticed my guitars were out of sync. I (stupidly) thought it might be some sort of glitch in the DAW and started rerecording them only to realize part way through that it was the delay from a plugin I added to the drum bus. Now I've got 1 song with guitars that are synced with one plugins worth of delay and 4 others without.

This is my problem obviously, but I wanted to warn everyone about using plugins while you're still tracking and ask if delay compensation is possible for internal plugins.

I saw a post asking about delay compensation for external processors, but not for plugins.

Anyway, love the DAW.

Hope this helps

3rd Party App?

#discussion

I've heard all the security concerns like everyone has and I've been trying to find ways to keep Meta from getting my data. I've using a security app to cut the Meta AI app off from accessing my Mobil data and apparently it won't pull pictures or videos off the glasses without it which is absolutely insane.

Has anyone heard anything about maybe a 3rd party app that could be used to access the photos on the glasses without Meta stealing our data?

I'm fascinated and will definitely be purchasing this as soon as I get to my computer. I've got either a question or a feature request. I have a big analog console and a bunch of external hardware I use when I'm tracking and mixing. I've got an actual 8 track tape recorder and if Tape16 had individual direct outs I could send all my individual outs to my console just like with my tape rig. Did I miss that explanation in the video or is that not a feature yet?
