Hands are full, their turn to try

I’m busy with a decent size spawn right now of about 200. Letting them try their hand at rearing them for a few weeks. We will see. I love how colorful and pronounced they are when guarding fry.

Going strong…

After the power to the fish room fried and now running emergency extension cords until the contractor can get here. ANNND I got a wicked case of (confirmed) covid, 104.5 fever, actually passing out after doing water changes and being drenched in sweat just going down the stairs. I’m happy to say we are still kicking!

New couple…

Didn’t know this was gonna happen…. But it’s a decent size spawn. First time so fingers crossed but we will see….

Almost missed our Saturday update!

We had to go out on a day trip to our friends for dinner and had to do a little expansion because growth was a bit behind. So we went into 2x29 and a 36 bow front with our normal 40g grow out. Ended up with 3 tanks of 28 fry and one of 26. These tanks will be breeding pairs tanks in the future but this is a big spawn so here we are! Anyhow, enjoy! Thanks for checking out my babies!

Thinned out my jungle tank…

Did NOT know my blue galaxy colony exploded this much. Started off with 6 in the beginning of march….

Saturday update…

Sadly lost one of my zebra and my glo angel juveniles. The zebra got pulled into the siphon when I was checking to make sure I was in the bucket…. The glo I’m not sure. It was stuck to the canister inlet mesh. Maybe fell asleep and got sucked on and passed. We are keeping calm and carrying on though!

We have been sorted… dinner!

Power outage so we didn’t do our weekly update. Sorted out the zebra from the ghost fry. About 100 zebra and 35 ghost and fluorescent red are with the ghost.

Power Outage July4th, 3days and not one casualty!

Just drove up to our lake house on Friday about noon having a beer.... Pop up on phone.... "alarm on cellular backup" Uh oh! Then "alarm running on battery backup" SH*T! Power is out. I'm like ok gotta leave, gonna lose all the fish, and the fridge is gonna spoil. Packed up the dogs, left the hubs at the house to go play on the water with our family (drove separately) and drove the 3 hours back home. Got out the generator did some interesting wiring and air hose running and we made it. I'm actually kind of shocked the generator ran 11 tanks, only 4 of them heated, tv, computer, back up 5g internet (T-Mobile it's WORTH IT for $10/month), fridge, and our battery chargers for the flashlights, etc. Long story short, I was so worried. I have over 600 fish, these are just the angel tanks.

Fry Tank Filter setup

Not sure if there are any other Jehmco fans on here but I love the green barrel box filter. It really polishes the water and holds a TON of media. They are actually really inexpensive.
I just wanted to share the setup I used to make a new one.
The setup is cut up chunks of two Dollar Tree plastic scrubbers ( I think they're like 8 for $1.25) . Middle layer is mixed leftover and new media I had lying around. Top layer should be polyfil, and probably eventually will be, but I had half a roll of some amazon filter padding. Since I am switching the room from all HOB to all sponge and barrels/box filters I went ahead and used it. I cut the pad to a disc and then cut it like blades on a fan to allow some channeling to not kill the flow because it is only air driven.
Just thought I'd share because I have used these in my angel fry tanks for a while and they really are great.

*You can put a 1/2" outer diameter rigid tube on the top to extend the outflow and strengthen the siphoning power, but I don't use it in the fry tank.

Lemme know what you think. Does anyone else use these filters?
