New to Angelfish

Hi! I am new to Angelfish, but an experienced fish keeper otherwise. I've successfully kept (and bred!) fancy goldfish, bettas, and a few other community fish such as platys, mollies, corydoras, etc. I took a little break from fishkeeping after having a baby but kept this 40g tall tank cycled and ready to use until inspiration struck.

Well I finally decided to get it stocked again and with the guidance of my local fish experts picked out these gorgeous Angels and a rubbernose pleco to go with the silvertip tetra I already had in there (keeping it cycled).

I plan on adding a lot more plants in the coming weeks, as I'm learning they enjoy vegetation. I have some rocks and a couple plants for them to explode now, but will have a lot more soon.

These angels (which were sold to me as a koi and a blue marble) seem to get along very nicely and often swim together. I have not seen any aggression in the 2 weeks they've lived together.

What can you tell me about them? Any advice or guesses on gender? Insight is greatly appreciated for a novice angelfish keeper!

New angelfish

I just got this stunning new red lava angelfish yesterday, but he seems pretty unhappy. So far he spends all his time hiding behind the pump. He’s the only angelfish- his tank mates are tetras, and he lives in a densely planted 125 gal tank. I have not kept angels since I was a child; is this normal?

Any ideas what this is?

I've started noticing one side of my Angels' ventral fin looks like it had some injury where scales are eroded and exposes what's underneath. It looks like it's getting bigger. The other side of it appears to be fine. Water parameters are normal. Fish is still active and eating. Should I start treating her with salt baths?

They found love in an airless place

Super proud to present the first pairing out of my group of 7 juveniles! The male is the Bulgarian seal point and the golden veil is the female. So pumped to see what their babies look like one day! (pictured egg laying and fertilization along with visible papilla in case it helps anyone else with their own gender ID)

Normal Angelfish Behavior?

I just switched my angelfish into a new 40 gallon tank two days ago. For most of the day yesterday I noticed she stayed in the corner. I thought she was probably just a bit stressed from the move and needed some time to feel things out and warm up to her new surroundings. Last night she started swimming around more and checking out the tank. She would go explore an area and then go back to her corner for a minute and then she’d go back out and go further out and whatnot until she’s now been swimming around the entire tank. But now she’s doing this. I just checked all the water parameters and everything is good. The ph is a little on the lower end of good so I may try and get it up a tiny bit. Is this normal behavior? Am I just being paranoid? Or is something wrong? She did this for about 45 seconds or so before swimming off and acting normal again. I haven’t seen any flashing or any signs of a sort of infection. Please let me know if this is normal and if it’s something wrong how can I fix it?

Is something wrong?

I rescued this black angelfish from a local petco because his fins were being picked apart. The first picture is him today and the second is a week ago when I rescued him. Is this his healing? A bacterial infection? He is acting normal otherwise. No flashing, still eating or looking for food, etc.

Eggs

Is there anything I can do to help these fools other than their own tank? They have been laying for quite a while now and it never pans out. We're thinking of setting up a 75g that we have for them but I rely on snails for a lot of things, especially cycling a new tank, and they seem to be the ones eat8ng all of the eggs. Although, probably more of an egg issue and theyre eating the duds? Idk, I'm not trying to breed (I would have a set up if it happens though) I just feel bad for the poor things 😂

What are these white dots?

(I just got her from someone downsizing beginning of June) 2 days ago she had identical white mole like bumps above her eyes pop up. Since then one has fallen off, not leaving a super noticeable mark( end of video). Her appetite is crazy, (I feed live black worms, frozen mysis and brine ) her back fins are growing back, and she is way more active. Please let me know if I should start treating with metroplex.

55 gallon, 2 40ish gallon sponge filters, and a cascade 700 canister filter. I haven’t noticed any spikes in water levels, ph has stayed at 7.8, it is also home to 5 corydoras.

Suggestions for an algae eater

I see this side view of my 75g tank more.

I need a good algae eater so was thinking of a smaller type pleco.

I have 2 marble veil tails, 2 albino red caps and 2 koi angels; 5 green laser corys, 5 sterbii corys, 4 neon tetras, and 7 harlequin tetras.

Obese anglefish wants to interact with me. What should I do?

I inherited a filthy 40gal tank with a 3.5yr old obese freshwater angelfish named Sweet Boy. It was a rush job, so the newly cleaned tank is cycling with Sweet Boy in it. All water parameters are currently under control. I can't add tank mates for at least 30 days.

Here's the rub. Sweet Boy is my first fish. I have a lovely lively shrimp tank, my first and until recently only tank. Sweet Boy obviously wants to interact. He watches all of us, gets close when we peer into his tank. I want to teach him tricks and play with him, but I don't know where to start. I can't use food as a reward until he slims down.

Any suggestions welcome.

Note: I know that light is too bright. I rarely use it.

Stock for a 55

So, I am upgrading my 30 gallon to a 55. I’m adding my fish from my 30 into my 55- and I have a lot of stocking space

I have currently
5 mollies
7kuhlis
2 Cory’s (ADDING TO THE GROUP)
1 nerite
Like 30 Molly fry I’m going to give to my lfs

What I want
I want to have a pair of angels- they are so pretty, but I’m curious on if they will be compatible
6-8 mollies
8 Cory’s
10 kuhlis
Cherry shrimp
2-3 nerites
Maybe a group of rummy noses or a schooling fish? I do not want larger tetras like white skirts, I’ve kept them before but I can’t find them anywhere else so I can’t have them

This tank will have multiple driftwood pieces, floaters, tiger lotus, vallisneria, anubias, parrotsfeather, ferns, and a lot more. I will have fluval stratum with multiple decently sized sandpits in different areas of the tank, and some under driftwood for secure areas to sift. I plant to have moderately hard water, with a temp of 77-78, with an HOB filter that has airline tubing separating it from the floaters.

The photo is so this will be seen more and so I can get some good advice

Angelfish Tank Sizing Help

I have two angelfish 1M named Bully and 1F named Angel. When I got them initially I didn’t know their genders and I thought they were both males… until I noticed angelfish fry in the tank one day. That was probably close to two years ago and over the past several months Bully began to attack Angel and with some research I came to the conclusion that they must have gotten a “divorce” since they hadn’t mated in quite some time. Her fins started to get tears and rips so I moved her to a separate tank recently. The issue is that tank is too small to house her permanently and I need to upgrade asap. I’ve been looking at tanks on Facebook marketplace and I’ve found a shit ton of great deals on large tanks. The issue is that I don’t have that much room to put a new tank. Obviously I’m already quite literally clearing shit out of my room so I can add a nice large tank.

What are the best recommendations for tank sizing? I was wanting to get a 30 (honestly 40) gallon at minimum but I’ve seen some extremely great deals on like 50 and 60 gallon tanks with stands. But I wouldn’t have room for two giant tanks like that in my room (I live with my family still as I’m only 20). I’m wondering if getting a 60 gallon tank would possibly provide them enough room to live together but I’m absolutely terrified to take that risk.

I also would like some recommendations for plants I can add as well as other species (and best tank sizing options for having those would be great too 😭) and any and all tips are welcome. I want to give my angels the best care I can. I’m working two jobs and have two purposes for my money in mind: save for an apartment and absolutely spoil my angels.

I really love them and I’ve seen many influencers who have fish and I enjoy the content and their relations with their fish and I just want to be able to provide that care for them. I have done research of my own of course but tbh I’m so scared to trust anything just blindly so I thought I’d ask the people for help.

Thank you so much and please note that I’m genuinely trying to learn so please try to be nice. If there’s something I’m doing wrong definitely tell me so I can fix it but I won’t lie I’m sensitive so pretty pretty please try. Thank you all so so so much!!!!

Fish not interested in food

I helped rehome this angelfish from someone who said her fins were getting nipped from her tankmates 2 weeks ago. Treated for secondary fungal/infections and she looks to be recovering now with fins growing again. However she does not seem to be interested for any food at all. I had to drop some bloodworms straight into her mouth near the surface. If it's too long, she'll just throw it back out again. While she's naturally evasive to a fish net, putting something like my hand/finger near to her doesn't seem to bother her. On one hand I'm thinking she's not skittish at all, but can't help to wonder if she is "normal"? The owner told me that she was paired and laid eggs, but the other male partner died of some disease. Any ideas?
