I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but can someone explain how selling adopts works? I’ve always found it a bit hard to understand the concept behind it... Does the artist sell the right to use their character design somewhere? But a dishonest person could just not pay and use the character anyway... How does this work? I’m really sorry if this sounds stupid and I'm missing some obvious aspect of it lol

I’ve loved drawing my whole life, but I was always afraid to turn it into my career. So when it came to choosing my education, I picked architecture instead. I’ve been working in this field for three years now, and I recently realized that I was just being untrue to myself. Is 23 too late to start promoting and monetizing my art? I feel so lost, like I’ve wasted years on the wrong thing.
