This is the most disturbing case in chicago

A 15-year-old Chicago boy found dead in a burning dumpster was alive when the fire was started, officials determined.

Demetrius Griffin, Jr. died of “thermal injuries due to incendiary fire in garbage can,” according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Griffin, a freshman at Steinmetz High School on Chicago's Northwest Side, was found burned beyond recognition in a West Side alley in mid-September.

This video originally aired Sep. 20, 2016

Neighbors, friends and family gathered days after the slain teen was identified to hold a vigil in the Austin neighborhood where he was found.

Demetrius’ only sibling, older sister, Bre Melchor and Polynesia Sykes attended the vigil and pleaded for peace and information.

“I need your help, please,” Polynesia said. “They’re killing our kids. You know who you are. Turn yourself in.”

Polynesia said she knew something was wrong when he missed curfew the night before he was found – it was something she says he never did. Demetrius, who had just started high school before he was killed, had hopes of joining the swim team.

A reward of $7,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Griffin's killer. Police said whoever set the fire may also have suffered burns.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Read "I'm destroyed. They took my only son away from me. And my days are getting harder. They're not getting easier. I just need someone to help. Please," said his mother Polly Sykes.

Griffin was found burned beyond recognition in the 5500-block of West Cortez, just steps from his home. Firefighters found the body while responding to what at first glance was a garage fire on Sept. 17, 2016.

A freshman at Steinmetz College Prep and a member of his local Boys & Girls Club, Griffin had a strict curfew. When he missed it that night, his mother knew something was wrong.

The person or persons who killed him are still at large.

"This is not normal," said Rev. Walter Jones, of New Mt. Pilgrim MB Church. "We don't want to become desensitized with what's coming, but right now these things are happening so rapidly. It's kind of hard not to worry about what's going on in our communities these days."

The reward for any information that leads to an arrest was increased to $10,000.

I feel bad for lil bro

1 His sister is fucking the dude that mocked his death

2 he got 🍇& and groomed by a 20-year-old. Naymoore

3 He probably was taking drugs. At a very young age

4 dude didn't really have any justified reasons to jump in the streets. He just wanted to do it, just for people thinking he's not a goofy, which is stupid. You shouldn't care what anybody thinks

5 everybody failed him in life down to his mother, sister and older brother his sister bought him his first switch, which is crazy. Because what does a 14/15-year-old need? A switch for and plus you letting him get groomed by older girlfriend and his friend group

6 now his sister forgot about him. She got him tatted on her shoulder. When she getting her back, blowned out by Lil noonie and don't forget, lil king which is such a disgrace, dude, really died for nothing.

Why doesn't Chicago support artists that don't do drill or is it just me?

See, I used to live in chicago especially outwest and upnorth 2015-2017 like back in the day, especially in out west, there was the bopping movement with sickomobb and lil kemo and you got lucki with the whole cloud trap sound and now you got the chicago underground like lil2posh kels kioracks yourstepdad okaydeazy stretxh thirteendadegree and we need to start promoting those artists. Cause they're actually good and we need to break the stigma Chicago artist, only just drill artist, cause we're just more than drill music and we can prove that and no offense, most of drill rappers that get posted here are ass the only good drill rappers to me are vonoff1700 and YFG FATSO 18capperslilnate bloodhound lil jeff
