I’m the only manager

I manage a very busy restaurant.

I am the only manager.

I manage the kitchen, the front of house, I do inventory, scheduling, ordering for front of house and back of house, catering orders, and private events

I have been in this position for 6 years. I am finally leaving with a 4 month notice. Crazy right?

I am just now waking up to how embarrassing some of my job is while I train the new manager.

I feel bad he was mislead to think there was more support from a key hourly or a misguided “lead server”

The team is overworked and no one wants to help close.

My shifts are typically a 13-14 hour day. I work 5 days a week. I get to leave early one night which my boss said is a luxury and privilege.
I honestly had a panic attack on Saturday realizing how toxic my work environment has been.

My boss also employees his wife who refuses to work Sundays and works about 20 hours a week. She’s supposed to help manage but doesn’t.

How can I have a constructive conversation with me boss? He seems to live and be totally unaware of the ongoing issues

Moving on to a new opportunity

I have been a general manager for 8.5 years. general manager of a high end cocktail bar for 5. I let my boss know this would be my last year in February.

I am giving a three month notice - I work in the hospitality industry- I’m leaving a high end cocktail bar to work at an established high end fine dining seafood restaurant.

I just want advice on how to convey this to my staff and uphold the culture

We are locally owned and operated and I worked my ass off the last five years to create a very healthy work environment

I don’t want my current staff to want to leave just because I am in my late 30s - want to start a family - and don’t want to work til 3am anymore.

It’s heartbreaking for me because most of my staff has been with me for minimum 8 months to even four years.

I want our bar to continue to succeed and have strong healthy leadership.

At the end of the day I have to do what’s right for my future and I didn’t apply for this job- I was recruited in person- no indeed.

It also means I can eventually move states which is something I crave because I have lived in Arizona my whole life but have visited all over

The new company has the same ideals I do and it will be nice to follow their procedures and not have to build all the training from the ground up like I have done.

It’s bittersweet and I plan to help make the transition as seamless as possible.

I just hope my team doesn’t feel the need to jump ship just because I leave. I’m hoping to find a good replacement and fill them in on all the details

Yearly traditions

Curious if anyone else has any yearly traditions for Kilby?

This is my third year and my fiancée and I have three or four things we do every single year that we enjoy that center around the festival.
