For those of you on the fence about getting a 9070XT vs a 5070ti/5080 for 4K gaming: Just do it.
For reference, my main rig is a 32gb RAM 5080/9800X3D system. Since Valve announced the Steam Machine last year, I’ve been craving a couch HTPC for the living room. When they revealed the specs as well as the price, I was immediately disappointed, and decided to build my own damn system. When it came to GPU, I was torn between the 9070XT vs the 5070ti. I knew I wanted 16gb of RAM, but I was nervous about going AMD vs Nvidia. I never owned a Radeon GPU and DLSS was available in more games, but the 5070ti was an eye watering $300 more expensive by comparison. I ultimately chose the much cheaper 9070XT for my new couch PC setup, and after gaming for a number of hours this weekend, I have to say I do not regret my purchase at all. FSR looks really good (DLSS is better, but not MUCH better like it used to be), the Adrenalin software is easy to understand & navigate, and most importantly the games run just fine. On my 50” OLED 4K display, Stellar blade runs at 120fps with FSR quality, FFXVI runs at 120fps native or FSR quality, and Cyberpunk runs at 60fps-75fps on Ultra + RT Ultra with FSR performance. If I’m getting this level of performance on a 50” display, it can play 1440p even better with no compromises. Highly recommend.
If anyone is curious and is lucky enough to be near a Microcenter, this is the system I built this weekend. If you want a case with a smaller footprint than the Lian Li A3, you could also go with the Jonsbo Z20 and buy 3 fans instead of 5. It’s upgradable, has a better processor, and triple the performance of the Steam machine while being just $50-$60 more expensive than their 2TB w/ controller model.
