Switching careers - but to what?

I’m thinking of switching my career. I’m getting so burnt out being an executive assistant.

I have a degree in elementary & special education, but no chance I’m going back to that.

I do enjoy helping people a lot, but don’t want to do anything that requires me going back to school (can’t obtain more debt that I already have).

I’m not sure what to do, but I’m tired of being miserable.

Any advice for people who switched? What did you switch to? How did you change your resume to match?

Hate my job

I’ve been an EA to the C-suite team of a small finance company for about 3 months now.

Their communication & knowledge is so incredibly low. I have no idea how they’re running a business honestly.

They think they are so much more important than they really are. At this point it’s insufferable. No onboarding, no training. They just throw things at me and expect me to know exactly how it should be done. Then when they do give me directions it ends up being wrong and I’m the one at fault.

They have gone through so many EAs and now I know why.

I don’t want to leave without another job lined up, and I’ve been applying & applying and only getting denied.. and I’m so burned out from them.

I don’t know what to do and feel my life is purposeless.

Women only celebrated in marriage & having kids

I’m almost 30. A majority of my friends have gotten married & had kids, or are about to get married.

I have gone to every bachelorette party, bridal shower, wedding, baby shower, kids birthdays - even when I lived across the country… and I wasn’t well off in regard to money.

I told my friends that for my 30th bday, I want to do a trip. One of my friends said it will be fun to celebrate all our 30th birthdays… and I said no, MY 30th bday 😅

I then went on to mention that they have all been celebrated time and time again - and I have no intent to get married or have children. I want one celebration to be about me.

She was offended and said “we aren’t going to pretend like we aren’t turning 30 too”

Am I being selfish? I’ve spent thousands of dollars on dresses, parties, flights, etc for them. Why can’t one thing be to celebrate my milestone?

Why do women only get celebrated when they get married or have kids - as if that’s the only things we are good for. Some of us take pride in our careers, our independence, etc.

Lately I’ve just been very over many of the friends I grew up with - and maybe because of our differences in lives.

Buying old reliable car in cash?

Hello everyone,

I currently have a 2017 VW Tiguan with a lot of issues (oil consumption, shifting issues, trunk door won’t stay up, broken infotainment center, etc). Basically it’s a piece of junk. It was an impulsive purchase (regretfully) a couple years ago.

I still owe about $9400 on it. My plan it to pay it down to positive equity ($8000) and sell it to Carvana - then purchase an older used RAV4 or CRV in cash off Facebook marketplace.

I really don’t want another car loan / finance or to lease. I plan to move in January & just want to go there without a car payment & a reliable vehicle.

Any advice on this? What should I look for when purchasing a car in cash from someone?

I started with a small financial company about 3 months ago.

My current job has nice-ish people, but it’s a mess.

There was no onboarding or training. The communication is horrible. They just throw things at me & expect me to know exactly what to do, and how to use their systems. They are constantly changing things (such as the calendar titles) and expect me to know the difference.

Their idea of training is sending me a loom video. The last one there was loud music playing in the background so I couldn’t even hear the instructions. Then I realized I didn’t even have the access I needed to perform said task. They also misspell and mispronounce things so often.. it’s embarrassing.

It’s stuff like this every single day.

I also get 0 benefits - no PTO, no healthcare, no 401k. Any time I “take off” I have to make up on another day if I want to get paid.

I have found that they have gone through a ton of executive assistants. They also hired another person outside the US for a month - he did the work, they gave nearly 0 feedback, and then they let him go. He asked to be paid and they basically said “take it as a learning experience” and deleted the evidence.

I’ve been taking basically any job I get, because I need money to live. The only perk is that it’s remote but the job is either high stress or extremely boring. I’m more of a project manager than anything.

Just ranting. Any advice welcome!
