AITA for telling my boyfriend he should get the spider
My boyfriend tends to live in his own world. He is very thoughtful and caring in his own ways, but we have different love languages and he prefers not to deter from his ways, while my capacity for love, understanding, and trying to protect my loved ones, is very high and not always reciprocated.
So this morning, my boyfriend stopped me from folding the laundry to show me a huge spider web on the deck that formed overnight. I stopped what I was doing to come see it, it was cool, and then the dog comes to the door. He stops me from looking at it because “the dog is going to get into it” (as if he didn’t let the dog out, avoiding the web in the first place, so why would now be different just because I’m outside?). Great, so I come back inside to go finish the laundry. I stopped what I was doing to look at what you wanted to show me. When I get done, I come out and the web is still there. I work from home and have a garden in back, so it’s clear I walk on the deck 15+ times a day. I asked him if he was going to get the web and he said after work. I said, knowing I walk out there all those times a day, wouldn’t it have been a no brainer just to get it now? He gets frustrated, shuts down, doesn’t think he’s in the wrong, and I’m the weird one for assuming that he would grab the web, knowing I would have walked through it soon after. He said, I already told you the web was there so that was my way of letting you know, but go ahead and start a fight over a spider web.
For me, it’s not about the spider web. It’s about the sheer fact of KNOWING and wanting to prevent me from walking in there. Just grab the web yourself. You’re the dude.
Am I the asshole? I’m up for constructive criticism and can accept when I’m wrong. Just looking for some outside perspective.
