Roast My Resume | 2025 Old IIT Grad | Risk Analyst at a Leading Indian Bank | Targeting Risk Analytics, Data Analytics & Data Science Roles (25–30 LPA)

Hi everyone,

I’m a 2025 graduate from an old IIT, currently working as a Risk Analyst at a leading Indian bank. I’ve anonymized my resume to protect my privacy by removing personal details, company names, and institute names.

I’m looking for brutally honest feedback on my resume as I’m planning to switch roles.

Target Roles
Risk Analyst / Senior Risk Analyst
Credit Risk Analytics
Data Analyst
Data Scientist (where my experience is relevant)

Target Compensation
₹25–30 LPA

I’d love your feedback on:
1)What are the biggest weaknesses in my resume?
2)Which bullet points sound generic, weak, or should be rewritten?
3)Does my profile look competitive for top product companies, fintechs, and global banks?
4)What skills, tools, certifications, or projects should I add to improve my chances?
5)If you were a hiring manager, would you shortlist me? If not, what would be the main reason?

Please don’t hold back, I genuinely want constructive criticism and actionable suggestions.
If you’re a recruiter or know of relevant openings that match my background, I’d be happy to connect via DM.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help!

Can an object’s apparent angular speed exceed the speed of light?

I noticed something interesting while traveling on a bus today that reminded me of high school physics.
For an object moving with linear speed (v) at a distance (r), the angular speed is (\omega = v/r). So if the distance decreases, the angular speed increases.
That got me wondering: suppose an object is moving past me at nearly the speed of light. If it passes extremely close to my eye (say, at a distance smaller than (1/c) in appropriate units), would its apparent angular speed exceed the speed of light? Or is that comparison meaningless because angular speed (rad/s) and linear speed (m/s) are different quantities?
More generally, can the apparent angular motion of an object across the sky become arbitrarily large, even though its actual linear speed is always less than or equal to (c)?

Need advice on switching from Analyst role to SDE after 1 year of experience

Hi everyone,
I’m a 2025 B.Tech graduate from an old IIT and currently working as an Analyst at a bank with a CTC of around 18 LPA. I have around 1 year of experience.
My current work involves Excel, Python, SQL, dashboards, reporting, and data analysis. While I do work with code regularly, it is not software development in the traditional sense.
During college, I was genuinely interested in software development and had covered DSA concepts up to Dynamic Programming. However, I couldn’t secure an SDE role during placements and eventually joined this Analyst position.
Recently, I’ve been considering giving SDE another serious attempt. The challenge is that I feel I’ll have to rebuild my profile from scratch — revise DSA, learn development properly, build projects, and prepare for interviews alongside my current job.
I wanted to get some advice from people who have made a similar transition (analytics/data/risk/other roles → software engineering):
Is switching to SDE after 1 year in a non-SDE role a practical decision?
How difficult is it to get SDE-1 roles with this kind of background?
How much time does it realistically take to become interview-ready while working full-time?
Do companies consider such candidates, or do they mostly prefer candidates with prior software engineering experience?
Should I target fresher roles, SDE-1 roles, or something else?
Would my current experience at a bank and IIT background help in this transition?
Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have personally made a similar switch.
Thanks!

Need advice on switching from Analyst role to SDE after 1 year of experience

Hi everyone,
I’m a 2025 B.Tech graduate from IIT (Tier 1) and currently working as an Analyst at a bank with a CTC of around 18 LPA. I have around 1 year of experience.
My current work involves Excel, Python, SQL, dashboards, reporting, and data analysis. While I do work with code regularly, it is not software development in the traditional sense.

Is it worth transitioning from Data/Risk Analyst to SDE after 1 year of experience?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently working at a bank as an Analyst with a CTC of around 18 LPA. My day-to-day work mostly involves Excel, Python, SQL, dashboards, reporting, and some data analysis.
I have about 1 year of experience now.
Back in college, I was interested in software development and had completed DSA theory up to Dynamic Programming. However, I couldn’t get placed as an SDE at that time, so I ended up taking this analyst role.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about giving SDE another shot. The problem is that I’d essentially be starting again from scratch in terms of interview preparation and development projects.
A few questions for people who have made a similar switch:
Is it worth transitioning to SDE from my current role?
How difficult is it to break into SDE with 1 year of non-SDE experience?
Roughly how much time would it take to become interview-ready?
Do companies hire candidates making such a switch, or do they strongly prefer people with prior SDE experience?
Would I need to target fresher-level roles, or can I still apply for SDE-1 positions?
Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who moved from analytics/data/risk roles into software engineering.
Thanks!
