Resume review

I'm a 2024 BBA graduate transitioning into Data Analytics and applying for entry-level Data Analyst roles in India. I've built projects in SQL, Python, Excel, and Power BI, but I'm not getting as many interview calls as I'd like. I'd appreciate honest feedback on my resume.

What IT roles are still realistic for a mech graduate in 2026?

My_Qualifications: B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (May 2026), CGPA 8.24.

I lost interest in core mech during college. Most jobs I saw were manufacturing, maintenance, site or sales roles, and I don't see myself doing that long term. I want a desk job, which is why I'm trying to pivot into IT/data.

I'm currently learning SQL. I know Python, MS Office and Power BI, but I still need to build projects and hopefully get an internship. I'm applying everywhere (WFH, unpaid, anything) just to build my resume, but haven't had any luck yet.

Initially I looked at Data/BI/Analytics roles, but like everyone knows, the market is rough and I'm barely getting any responses. During my research I also came across roles like Systems Engineer, QA/Manual Testing, Application Support, Helpdesk, etc. Some people have also suggested Supply Chain or Operations because of my mech background.

My goal is simple: I need a decent entry-level desk job within the next 3-6 months. I can't stay unemployed hoping the market improves.

So for people working in IT, what roles would you realistically target if you were a non-CS engineering graduate starting today? Should I keep focusing on Data/Analytics, or should I diversify and apply for QA, Support, Systems, ERP, Supply Chain, Operations or something else as backups?

Looking for practical advice, not "the market is bad" replies. I already know that. I just want to know what gives me the best chance of getting hired in the next few months.

I've been building a SQL learning platform for the past few months. It's called QueryCase and I'd love honest feedback

I've spent the last few months building something and I'm finally at the point where I want to share it properly rather than just quietly hoping people find it.

The idea came from a frustration I kept seeing (and feeling myself): SQL tutorials teach the syntax fine but there's never a reason to care about the answer. You filter a table called employees, get a result, and nothing happens. Your brain doesn't bother keeping it.

I wanted to try a different approach. QueryCase teaches SQL through detective investigations. You get a briefing from Chief Fox (our mascot), a real database to query, and a mystery to crack. The JOIN matters when a suspect has an alibi. The WHERE clause matters when you're trying to find who entered the building at 22:13. The SQL is the tool for solving something, not the point in itself.

Here's what's actually in it:

  • A structured learning path across 54 cases, going from Recruit through Rookie, Detective, Senior Detective, and Chief Detective. Each rank has drills and a level exam to pass before you progress.
  • Sandbox mode where you can explore real datasets (IMDB movies, Spotify, sports stats, Steam games) and run whatever you want with no pressure and no mystery attached. Just free exploration against actual data.
  • Everything runs in the browser using DuckDB WASM so there's nothing to install.

I'm a solo developer and this is genuinely early days. I'm sharing here because this community is exactly the kind of people I built it for, and I'd rather get honest feedback now than find out later I've built the wrong thing.

What's missing? What would make you actually stick with something like this versus what you've used before?

querycase.com if you want to take a look.

Any feedback appreciated!

Am I wasting time trying to get into analytics?

My_Qualifications: B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (May 2026)

I knew before graduating that I wanted out of mech. It wasn't just the low pay, I genuinely had no interest in manufacturing/core jobs anymore. I also put my master's on hold cause I wanted work ex first. I don't wanna spend another year just learning something and end up with a huge gap on my resume.

At first I thought about support/sys admin/QA kind of IT roles since I'm not into hardcore coding or SDE stuff. Later I switched to analytics cause it looked like it'd have more options. I've learned Excel, learning SQL rn and planning to do Power BI next, but no portfolio or analytics internship yet.

The more I research, the more confused I get. First people say learn tools, then Python, then AI, then AI agents, then domain knowledge. As a fresher, idk how I'm supposed to get domain knowledge without getting my first job.

I'm applying on and off campus but barely getting any calls. So should I keep going with analytics or switch to something else? Should I target IT support/testing roles instead? Or just prepare for CAT/GRE and move on?

I'm not looking for "the market is bad" replies. Ik that already. I just wanna hear from people who were in this phase and actually made it out. What would u focus on if u were starting from scratch today?

One opportunity is all he’s looking for

I’m posting this because I honestly don’t know what else to do.

My younger brother graduated and has been trying to get his first break in data analytics for months. Every single day he’s applying to Data Analyst, Business Analyst, BI, MIS, Reporting, internships, trainee roles… basically anything that can help him get his foot in the door.

He’s rewritten his resume countless times, built projects, reached out to people on LinkedIn, asked for referrals, and keeps learning new skills. Still, most applications end in silence or an automated rejection.

Lately it’s been really hard watching him. Every rejection chips away at his confidence. He keeps wondering what he’s doing wrong when all he’s wants is one company willing to give him a chance.
The toughest part is seeing entry-level jobs asking for years of experience or expecting skills that seem far beyond what a fresher should need.

If anyone here knows of:
Entry-level Data Analyst roles
Business Analyst roles
Power BI / SQL / MIS / Reporting positions
Internships or trainee programs
Referrals or even someone he could connect with
I’d be incredibly grateful.

I’m happy to share his resume privately.

Sometimes all it takes is one person willing to say, “Send me the resume.”
Thank you for reading.

Which data analytics course/ certificate should I do as an absolute beginner?

A lot of online courses and resources are available. I am an absolute beginner and have no background in computer science/ IT/ maths (just the barely basic stuff till class 10th) but I want to learn these skills in a way which can eventually help me earn. I came across Coursea Google Data Analytics course but then saw courses by other platforms too.

So which one shoul I go ahead with? And how should I plan this to make an earning out of it? Any other courses I should keep an eye out for?

Looking for an Entry-Level Data Analyst Opportunity | Open to Remote & On-site Roles

Hi everyone,

I'm a recent graduate from India and I'm currently looking for my first opportunity as a Data Analyst (internship or full-time).

Over the last few months, I've been learning and building projects using: ● Microsoft Excel (Advanced) ● SQL (Basic – Joins, Aggregations, Filtering) ● Power BI (Basic) ● Data Cleaning & Dashboard Creation

I've completed several hands-on projects to strengthen my analytical skills, and I'm continuously learning to improve.

I'm open to remote, hybrid, or on-site opportunities anywhere in India. My goal is to gain real-world experience, contribute to a team, and keep growing as a data analyst.

If your company is hiring, or if you know of any entry-level openings, internships, or referrals, I'd be very grateful for your help.

Thank you for your time!

Resume and project portfolio are available on request.

Fresh Data Analyst (SQL) | Applied on LinkedIn, Naukri & Indeed but getting almost no responses. What else should I try?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 2026 fresher looking for an entry-level Data Analyst / SQL role.

So far I've applied through LinkedIn, Naukri, and Indeed, but I'm barely finding relevant fresher openings or getting responses.

My current skills are:

  • SQL
  • Python
  • A couple of Python + SQL projects

Has anyone here landed a Data Analyst role recently? Which job portals, company career pages, or strategies actually worked for you?

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Fresher-26, jumping into data/analyst roles, need advice.

Graduated in June 2026, mechanical engg. No internships, no projects, no work ex. I know the market is rough: AI, layoffs, CS/IT grads overqualified and still unemployed. I’m not being naive about it. But this is the path I want to try, so here I am.

What I have right now:
• Excel and Google Sheets — basics, functional level
• SQL — logically I understand it well, done a decent amount of practice on SQLZoo type stuff, but no actual project to show for it
• Power BI /python— haven’t started yet

No GitHub. No portfolio. No projects, individual or capstone.

What I’m targeting:
Not fixated on “data analyst” specifically. I’d take business analyst, MIS analyst, supply chain analyst, operations analyst — anything with an analyst tag that has some tech + admin overlap. Title doesn’t matter.

When should I start applying? What’s the minimum I need to have before sending out 15–20 applications a day on job portals?

I keep seeing advice like “get 4–5 capstone projects on GitHub, customize resume per JD” : which, fine, I get it, but I’m also seeing people say apply now and learn in parallel. I don’t know which is actually right in this market.

I looked into SAP briefly but it felt like a whole separate commitment and a different domain entirely. Not sure if that’s even worth exploring right now.

Longer term context if it matters:
Want 1–2 years of work ex, then figure out between an MBA (HR or business analytics track) or an MS abroad. Not decided yet. Supply chain analytics feels like a niche where my ME background might actually help — is that a real thing or am I coping?

Genuinely want to hear what worked for people in similar spots — non-CS, non-finance background, trying to break into any analyst role. Internships count too. What did you actually do, what actually helped?

Need Data Analyst job, Willing to Pay

Hi everyone,

I am actively looking for a Data Analyst role in Gurgaon and Remote but I am open to relocating anywhere in India for the right opportunity.

I have hands-on experience with Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, and basic statistics, and I've been continuously building projects to strengthen my skills. I'm eager to learn, work hard, and prove myself.

If anyone can refer me to a company that's hiring, I'd be incredibly grateful. As a token of appreciation, I'm willing to pay a referral fee after I successfully complete 3 months at the job.

If you know of any openings or can help with a referral, please comment or send me a DM.

Thank you so much!

0-1 YOE Data Analyst - Are there companies hiring at 10-12+ LPA, or am I being unrealistic?

I'm currently looking for a Data Analyst role after being laid off. I have less than 1 year of experience, so I'm still in the 0-1 YOE bucket.

One thing that's really frustrating is that many recruiters seem to care a lot about my previous CTC. I don't understand why. If a company has budgeted ₹10-12 LPA for a role and the candidate clears all interview rounds, why should past salary matter so much? It feels like companies try to optimize for the lowest possible offer instead of paying based on the role and the candidate's skills.

Most fresher Data Analyst roles seem to be around ₹5-7 LPA, occasionally ₹8 LPA. Please don't suggest ZS, it only hires from the colleges that are listed in the drop-down menu of its application form. My college isn't in that list even though they come and hire from my college every year.

Today I also found out that my cousin, who just graduated from private law school, got placed at a top law firm with a package of around ₹14-16 LPA. I'm genuinely happy, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous. It's probably the first time I've felt this way. We data analysts can only dream of such good salaries as freshers, even Flipkart doesn't pay that much.

For context, I'm an engineering graduate from a good tier 2 private college (amazing placements used to happen till 2023 when market was good).

Please help me...😓

I know this might not be the corrcet way or platform of doing this but here I am. I(23M) recently graduated with a computer science degree. I have wasted all my 4 years of computer science degree and focused on nothing other than academics. Though I managed to secure a CGPA of 9.15, but I have no gained any actual skills used in real life data science jobs. Being from a very small village and having a family with business background, I never got the right guidance and opportunities. I always focused on academics and made my parents pround with my marks but in reality, it was the most useless thing...

I know this might sound like a regular post and mostly its gonna get ignored but currently I am looking for jobs related to data science. Being honest, though I don't have any skills right now, but I am a really fast learner and have a good mind for analysis. The on;y thing I am lacking is correct guidance and motivation... I am a quick learner and if anyone can help me with a job, I can guarantee you that I will complete my tasks perfectly and will never disappoint you.

I just want correct direction and motivation to live my interest for data science. Even a 15k-20k rs per month job will be enough for me if I get to learn anything in it. The money is just for my regular needs so that I don't be a burden on my family and if it's remote then 10k also would be enough. I am currently at my lowest so any help is appreciated.

Also, if this looks like a regular post to you, then I am really sorry for wasting your time...🙏
