Can someone explain NHS Bursary funding for GEM?

Can someone please explain how the NHS Bursary funding works for Graduate Entry Medicine? I’m completely confused 😭

For someone who is only eligible for the non-means-tested funding, how much money should we actually expect to receive in total for the year?

From what I’ve understood, it’s around £4,000 off course fees+ £1,000 from the NHS Bursary, but I’m not sure if that’s correct.

Also, is the Extra Weeks Allowance something everyone receives if their GEM course is long enough, or is that means-tested as well?

Would really appreciate if someone could break down exactly how much we should expect to receive as a GEM student!

How long before a resit period do universities usually release results?

I had an exam today and I'm already stressing about the wait for results. I walked out feeling like I completely bombed it, although there's still a small part of me that thinks I might have done enough to scrape a pass.

The thing that's worrying me most is that our resit period starts in about 3 to 4 weeks. If I stop revising now and then find out I have to resit with only 2 weeks left, I don't feel like that's enough time to relearn everything properly or fix the mistakes I made.

How long before the resit period do universities usually tell you whether you've passed or failed? Do they normally give you enough notice to prepare, or is it common to only have a week or two?

Just curious what other people's experiences have been because the uncertainty is driving me mad.

Yesterday I got a needlestick injury and found out my university never completed my Hep B vaccinations.

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I got a needlestick injury while on my first-year GP placement. I reported it immediately, and the GP assessed the exposure as low risk, which has been reassuring, but I'm still feeling really anxious about it.

During the follow-up, I found out that I never received my second (or subsequent) Hepatitis B vaccinations through my university's vaccination programme. The university has admitted that I "fell through the cracks" of their vaccination programme, so I wasn't fully vaccinated before starting placement.

I've contacted occupational health myself, and the earliest appointment available is tomorrow, when I'll be getting the vaccine.

I know I've been told the risk is low, and I'm trying to remind myself of that, but I'm generally a pretty unlucky person, so I keep worrying that I'll somehow be the exception.

Another thing that's really worrying me is that this could somehow end up being blamed on me. Since I wasn't fully vaccinated before placement, I'm scared the university might hold me responsible or that it could even affect my place on the course, even though they've acknowledged that I wasn't vaccinated because I fell through the cracks of their programme.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Did your university support you, and is there anything else I should be asking them or occupational health to do?

Any advice or reassurance would be really appreciated because this whole situation has been overwhelming.
