Flash Fiction Piece - Deception

I'm writing this for a flash fiction competition. It only has to be between 100-300 words. This is my first attempt at such a small piece of fiction writing so feedback is greatly appreciated.

Deception

I stood frozen. For a moment I thought it was you. She had your smile. One which revealed a tooth which grew atop the row of teeth normally had by one. A quality you both shared. Yet, in my heart, I know it be a deception of the mind. A fleeting moment. One where I am believed, just for a second, that you live again.

The moment passed, and your face faded away, revealing the face of a woman. Not as pretty, but definitely as kind. As you once were, sister. More kind than I. For you would not comment on whether she was pretty, but on her kindness instead. At times, as much as I hate to admit it, I am cruel. I could only dream to be as kind as you were. I would be once again deceiving myself to believe I could ever live up to you.

But I know you would laugh at the thought. You were as humble as you were kind. You never tried to do good. You just were. You were never one to bully or push around. Like the Beatles, you believed that “all you need is love”. You loved the Beatles. Most importantly, you were never one to deceive. With you, what you saw was what you got. And were we ever glad to have you as you were.

Flash fiction Piece

This piece is inspired by real events. Hope you enjoy!

I was waiting my parents. We came into town together and we agreed to meet again at the car when we were ready.  The car was parked in a public car park which sat beside the local Garda station. It was the perfect place for it. People are (often) less likely to break parking laws if they the Gardai are so close by. I was leaning against the side of the car. It was a bright, sunny day. The temperature was high, but there was an occasional light breeze. It seemed to stop and pick back up exactly when I needed it to. There was a small murder of crows picking at broken crackers that had been sprayed across an empty parking space. One of the crows was bigger, *meaner.* He kept squaring up to the smaller crows, puffing his chest towards them as they attempt to approach the bigger pieces of cracker. The smaller crows back off, but continue to pick at the smaller crummier pieces.

It wasn’t long before a 232 Seat parked in the once empty space. It was a typical “soccer mom” car as they call it in the states. Big, clean and expensive There was only the driver. A middle-aged woman. She sat in her car, talking on the phone. Her face was stern. She didn’t look happy with whoever was on the other end. She hung up her phone, and as she was getting out of the car, a young girl driving a smaller, blue car attempted to park in the space beside the woman in the Seat. Instead, she drove into the front of this woman’s, big, clean and expensive Seat. I can’t remember the make of the car, just that it was beaten. The fender on her left side had become loose. There was a series of scratches on the back and it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Looking at the young girl in the driver seat, it was clear that she could not afford to make a mistake like this. Her face dropped. I could feel the anxiety and shame that was building up in her chest. She pulled her car in front of the Seat. I couldn’t see the damage, so it might have been more serious than it looked.

The middle-aged woman in the Seat was not impressed. Her stern face only became sterner. She approached the young girl, still sitting in her little blue car. I couldn’t hear what they were saying. I was trying not to be too nosey either. After a brief discussion, the middle-aged woman took photos of the young girl’s registration number and tax certificate displayed on the inside of the windshield. The whole song and dance. She went back to the driver side window and talked with the girl some more. The only thing that I heard was the middle-age woman say “Now I will have to ring the Gardai”. They talked for a while more but I couldn’t hear them again.

The young girl was freed eventually and she drove off, revealing the damage she had caused. It was a rather insignificant scratch. You would barely notice on such a beast of a car. It certainly wasn’t big enough to cause such a big fuss. There’s no doubt that the young girl is in the wrong and legally she has to face the consequences. However, the *legal* actions to take are not always the *right* actions to take. The middle-aged woman took out her phone again. Presumably to ring her husband or the Gardai. I looked over at her and after two minutes on the phone, a look of fear washed over her face and she began to cry. I still can’t tell whether they were genuine or not. This was a woman who oozed privilege. She was used to getting her way and if things did not go her way, it was everyone else’s problem to deal with. Obviously, in this particular scenario, she has a right to be annoyed.

However, as an outside observer, I felt myself feeling more sympathetic with the young girl. Truth be told, she should not be driving in the first place. Her car was not fit for the roads, and she needed to practice. However, like all of us, that girl needs to get places. She needs to buy her shopping and go to the doctor. She may need to go to the pharmacy too. For all we know, she has to take care of a sick relative and relies on that car to get around. I couldn’t help but think ‘How can you look at this young girl; A girl who is outwardly struggling, while you drive your shiny beast and add further to that struggle?’

Truthfully, I was always going to sympathise with the young girl. I seldom show sympathy to those who can keep such a nice car on the road. I understand that everyone struggles these days. Especially when it comes to money. But at a certain point you have to wonder; If the middle-class struggle just as much financially, then why not downsize their houses? Why not switch to a more affordable or drive one instead of two? Why buy name brand products when you can save money on the off-brand stuff? Do you want to know why? Because there is no struggle. When people live comfortably, they feel guilty about it. Ashamed almost. This is why it’s  “rude” to talk about money. It has nothing to do with manner, but guilt. The worst part is, despite this, they will try to say that our struggle is the same. But it is *not* the same. It will *never* be the same.

First draft completed!

Just finished my first draft of a short story I've been working on. Its been a long time since I wrote a story of any kind. This is one I would like to see adapted into a comic if possible. The world I have in mind to develop from this short story is one with superheroes. I already have a number of changes in mind but please let me know what you think.

Zap and The Speed hound!

Morgan Sparrow just finished his last exam for the leaving cert. He is walking his dog, Baxter, when a rock hits him in the head and changes his life forever. The rock breaks and Morgan absorbs the energy inside. Morgan wakes up the next morning with amazing abilities...as does his dog. However, they aren’t the only ones.  Luke Finch was often bullied for being weak and nerdy. Luke was trying to outrun a number of bullies, when he finds a fragment of his own, gifting him with his own set of amazing abilities. When Luke seeks revenge on his bullies. Morgan steps in to stop him.

**Introduction**

On the 22^(nd) of June 2018, at approximately 7:35 pm, a meteor flew into the earth’s atmosphere. It landed in the Irish Sea. Fragments of the meteorite broke off as it entered the atmosphere, and were spread across Ireland and the UK. This day changed Earth forever as it ushered the beginning of what became known as the “Hero Age” of our history. Of course, with every super hero, there comes a slew of villains. Most of the time, power ends up in the wrong hands, and there’s nothing that we can do about that. But sometimes, power ends up exactly where it needs to be, with *who* it needs to be with.

**1.**

On a burning hot day, Morgan Sparrow is walking his dog, Baxter. He is on the phone to his Girlfriend Sam. “Can’t wait to see you tomorrow, we’ll need a few drinks and maybe a smoke or two after all those exams.” Morgan says gleefully. “Oh stop don’t I know. I studied my arse off so it would want to be worth it in the end!” Sam said, with excitement. “I’m certain it will be. You’re far cleverer than I or anyone else in our class, as well as more beautiful too.” He replied, flirtatiously. “Stoooop, you’re so soft you know that.” Sam said jokingly. “Yeah, but I can be pretty tough when I want to be too.” Morgan replied. “Yeahhhh, sure you can.” They both laugh, “Anyway, I have to finish walking Baxter so I’ll call you back later. Love you” he said. “Love you too tough guy” she replies.

He hangs up the phone and lets Baxter off his leash to run around on the grass. He pulls out a rope toy for them to play and Baxter decides he wants to play tug of war. After a bit of back and forth, Baxter eventually wins. Morgan decides to sit on the grass as Baxter runs circles around him as he usually does after a game of tug of war. Morgan takes out his phone again and decides to video Baxter. All of a sudden, Morgan notices a shift in the air. It felt...heavier, more static. The hairs on his arms begin to raise and he feels a shiver, despite the hot sunny day still before him.  Baxter had run for a considerable time and Morgan felt it was time to leave.

He calls Baxter over and starts to get up, when a rock falls from the sky and hits him in the head. “Ow!” he squeals. Baxter runs over to make sure that he is okay. Morgan pets him and says “Don’t worry buddy I’m okay. It was just this- whoa, weird rock”. The rock is glowing an orange colour and looks to be slightly transparent. It’s hard to make out, but it looks like there is a bolt of lightning inside. The rock begins to crack open and the bolt of lightning inside begins to spread across Morgan’s body. He is still petting Baxter, so it spreads across his body too. “OH GOD!” Morgan shouts as Baxter lets out a whimpering noise. As it stops, they both fall to the ground and pass out.

**2.**

Morgan wakes up a few moments later to Baxter sniffing his face, followed by licking his cheek. “Glad you’re okay buddy...glad we’re both okay.” Morgan said. “What exactly happened to us just now.” Morgan thought to himself “Did it even happen? Was it just a dream? Did that rock hit me and was all that just a dream?”. His head spinning with questions, Morgan decides to head home. He was starving and it was lasagne night. And his mam makes the best lasagne.

Morgan and Baxter make it home and walk into the kitchen. Morgan’s mother, Mary is making dinner, “Hey Love, how was your walk?” His mother asked. “It was...fine.” Morgan said nervously. Baxter looks up at him and barks. “Is someone hungry too?” Morgan asked him excitedly as he looked down at him. His tail wags and he makes his way to his bowl. Morgan fills it with food and fills his water bowl too. Baxter goes for the water too making lots of \*Mlep\* noises. Then, he scoffs down his food like a little pig. “Damn you really were hungry weren’t you buddy?” Morgan said while petting Baxter. Baxter smiles and pants as he looks up at Morgan. “Will I plate up some lasagne for you love?” Morgan’s mother said. “Please I’m absolutely dying for a bit of scran!”. Morgan calls his brother Dave own for dinner. “DAVE! DINNER!”. He comes down stairs and they all sit for dinner.

Similar to his dog Baxter, Morgan horses his dinner into him. He had never been so hungry before, and after all it was lasagne. “Don’t forget to breathe now Morgan” his mother said laughing. “Yeah, or chew” said his brother sarcastically. “Shut up, I’m hungry and it’s mam’s lasagne. If I could eat another 3 plates I could!” Morgan replied to his brother. “Now lads, let’s not get into an argument. Morgan, I take it you have room for dessert?” Mary said. “Well of course I do! That’s what dessert stomachs are for aren’t they?” he said. Morgan and his mother laughed but his little brother Dave let out a sigh instead.

After dinner, Morgan and Dave help their mother clean up. Morgan lets out a big yawn “aaaaaaahhhhhh” he said, loudly. He was so tired. He felt as if a brick wall had hit him. “I think I’m gonna go to bed early tonight. I’m ready to flop and not move for the night.” Morgan said, still yawning. “Ah well good night pet, you deserve a good rest after that last few weeks of exams” Mary said caringly. “I sure do. Good night, Mam. Love you”. “Love you too” she says. Morgan goes to bed and Baxter follows him up. He used to let Baxter on the bed, but Sam was not a fan of all the dog hairs so Morgan bought him a bed for the floor instead. Before getting into his own bed, Baxter chances his luck and jumps onto Morgan’s bed instead. “Noooo, you’re not allowed on the bed anymore remember?” Looking sad and defeated, Baxter whimpers and gets off Morgan’s bed and into his own. It doesn’t take them long to fall drop, and they stay asleep for the whole night.

**4.**

The next morning, Morgan wakes up to the bright sun beaming in through the window. He gets up and sits at the side of his bed for a moment. Baxter is sitting looking at him “Good morning, Baxter, you’re up bright and early as usual”. Morgan says as he gets up and makes his way to the bathroom. “Good morning!” Baxter replied to Morgan. Morgan freezes. He is in utter shock. It takes him a moment but he finally finds the courage to turn around and come-face-to-face with his dog who he just heard talk. “Did you just...talk?” Morgan said, with panic and fear in his voice. “Yeah! And look I can do this too!” Before Morgan can respond, Baxter begins running around the room and speed so fast, Morgan could only perceive him as a blur. Morgan looks shocked. He can’t believe what he’s seeing.

Before he can gather the thoughts to question Baxter, he begins to feel a sharp pain behind his eyes. His vision becomes blurred for a moment and everything looks to be a tinted orange colour. “Ahhhhhh! What is this?” He shouts. His vision becomes clearer and he begins to see that the electrical appliances in his room are glowing. He could also see glowing lines in the walls, coming from the plugs in the wall. “Those look like... cables? Am I seeing...electricity?” Suddenly it stops, and his vision goes back to normal. Morgan begins to think to himself “Could it be? Could that “dream” I had be real? Could that rock have changed me and Baxter?”

“Morgan is everything okay up there?” Mary shouts from downstairs. “Yeah, everything’s grand mam, I’ll be down in a minute!” Morgan shouted back. Morgan looks over at Baxter “Please, whatever you do, don’t talk to ANYONE else. I can barely wrap my head around it myself and the less people who know, the better.” He said panicking. “Awwww but I want to family to get to know me.” Baxter replied. In an attempt to win Morgan over, Baxter looks up at him sadly. “As cute as that is, it’s not gonna work. No talking.” Morgan said. Baxter sighed, “Fiiiine, I won’t talk.” And continues to roll his eyes. Morgan’s head was swirling. He leaned back on the wall outside of his bedroom. He thought to himself “I can’t believe this is really happening. I still don’t fully know what *is* happening yet. For all I know, this is only the start of whatever this is. Why didn’t I read more comics growing up.”

Morgan makes his way downstairs and Baxter follows. They make their way into the kitchen, where Morgan’s mother is making breakfast. “Is everything okay? I swear I heard two voices up there. Unless I’m going mad.” she said. “I think that happened years ago, no?” he replied. Mary rolls her eyes and replies, “I won’t disagree with you there. It’s hard not to go mad with two boys in the house. I’m bloody outnumbered!”. “Ahh we’re not that bad really Ma.” Morgan replies. “Yeah, you’re not the one who has to clean your gym clothes though are you?”. Morgan becomes sheepish and quietly replies, “...no”. Mary laughs and hugs Morgan before kissing him on the head.

“I have to head for work now love, so take care of yourself today. Don’t leave the house until your brother’s baby sitter gets here, it should be about half 11.” She said while rushing out the door. Morgan didn’t even have time to reply. She works as a nurse in a residential home for people with disabilities. It’s a demanding jobs and she sometimes works 12-hour shifts during the day. She also has to work sleepover shifts, meaning she may not be home 2 or 3 nights a week.

Morgan often worries he doesn’t show his appreciation enough and tries to help when he can. He struggles with school so he has to spend a lot of time to do well. Sam often helps him study and he believes she’s the reason he’s still in school. “Sam!” he shouts. “I never rang her before bed. I should call her now.” Morgan grabs his phone out of his pocket which was still there from last night. Upon touching it, his phone begins to spark and he drops it. His hand continues to spark and glow brighter before eventually shooting a blast of lightning. The blast hits a mug and it shatters, sending pieces of broken ceramic to spray across the room. Morgan ducks to protect himself. He stands up right again and hears from the hallway door, “M-Morgan?” Standing there is Morgan’s little brother, Dave, frightened.

**5.**

Morgan and Dave stand quiet for a moment. As the electricity fades from Morgan’s hand, he walks over to Dave “Dave...are you okay?” he says. Dave cowers back a few steps “Wh-what was that? Are you okay? Did that not hurt you?” Dave said. “No, it didn’t, the truth is I don’t know what this is. It started this morning and I can’t control it yet. It has something to do with a rock that hit me in the head yesterday and blasted me with electricity. You have to promise not to tell ma. She’ll only worry and try ring a doctor or something”. Hearing this, Dave begins to look conflicted. Morgan can tell he’s thinking about how hard it will be to keep it a secret”. “Okay, I promise. So like do you have superpowers or something? Are you gonna become a superhero?!” said Dave.

Dave looked excited at the idea of having a superhero for a brother. “What? No way. I’m not into all that Spider-man and Batman stuff. Besides, Baxter would want to do it too and then people would find us out.” Said Morgan. He was never into sci-fi or fantasy. He always preferred playing soccer with his friends. In recent years, Morgan has been more interested in spending time with his girlfriend Sam, and partying on weekends, as many teenagers love to do. “Wait, why would you have to take care of Baxter?” Dave asked. “Ohhhh, yeah I should probably mention...Baxter got blasted too. He can run. Very fast.” Morgan said. Baxter appears beside Morgan, “I can talk too.” Dave lets out a scream from the fright and Morgan can’t help but laugh, “I should be more annoyed but that was funny.”

**6.**

Earlier, the day before, Luke Finch is walking home from his last exam. Luke was in the same year as Morgan. He wasn’t as popular, or as athletic and he had to wear glasses with thick, picture frame lenses. A lot of the other kids in school picked on him all through school, including Morgan. Luke was scared walking out of the school. He was used to looking over his shoulder for bullies. He didn’t want to chance walking into town just in case the bullies wanted to get one last pick at him.

Luke waits for a bus at a stop nearby, which would bring him closer to home. There is no one else at the bus stop, so he sits on the bench and takes a moment to gather his thoughts. “Thank god that’s over” he thought. “I’m sure I did really well, but that was a stressful few months. I don’ know how I managed to stay focused and study AND deal with bullies nearly every day.”

As all of the other students clear the area, it begins to become quieter. Eventually, Luke can only hear the sound of bird chirping, and the wind rustling the trees. In the distance, Luke can hear people coming his way. As the voices get louder, Luke looks up to see three rough looking lads who often picked on him. They would go further than names and often get physical. “Oh, no.” Luke said. One of them spots him and points him out to the rest. Luke begins to run in the opposite direction of the town and they begin to chase him. He runs as fast as he can but they’re faster and they start to catch up with him. Luke runs onto a bridge, where the bullies catch up with him. They grab him and hold his legs above his head and hang him over the bridge. “Thought we would forget about ya did ya? Sure how could we resist having fun with ya one more time” one of the bullies said. The bullies drop him into the water and walk away laughing.

Luke stood up and walked out of the river. He was mostly okay, but his arm was broken. He sat on the grass just by the river for hours. He wasn’t ready to go home and tell his dad that he was bullied again. Luke’s dad wanted him to be more of a “man” and “toughen up”. Luke didn’t have the confidence to stand up for himself, so it was a constant struggle between dealing with bullies in school and a bully at home. As it started to get darker, he thought to himself, “I’m so sick of this! I do nothing wrong. I mind my own business. And yet they still won’t leave me alone! Well, one day, I’ll show them. I’ll be rich and they’ll still be here working in a shop!”

Luke sits there for a while longer. He begins to feel the same shift in the air as Morgan did. Suddenly, something hits the water and creates a splash near Luke. He gets up and goes over to see what it was. He was already wet, so the water didn’t concern him. He walks over to where the splash was and he can see something glowing in the water beneath. He puts his hand into the water and pulls out a rock, similar to the one Morgan found. “It’s a meteor fragment. I should bring this home and study it!” Luke said to himself. Luke walks out of the river and examines the rock again. It begins to break apart.

**7.**

Before getting dressed for the day, Morgan takes a shower. As the water is running over him, he feels static across his body. Similar to the shock you get off of the tap, but all over his body. The pool of water forming beneath his feet begins to conduct the electricity in Morgan’s body. It starts to shock his feet and he has to jump out of the shower. “I suppose I can’t bathe anymore” he thought. He dried off, got dressed and made his way to Sam’s.

Morgan was worried. He hadn’t talked to Sam since yesterday and he knew she was going to ask about it. “Should I just tell her? How do I explain that my phone blew up because my hands make electricity?” He continued walking, contemplating the best decision.

Morgan approaches Sam’s front door. He rings the doorbell. The button sparks, causing the plastic to melt and turn black. Sam’s mother answers the door, “Heya Morga- oh, what happened?” she said. “Oh, uhhh I don’t know. I pressed the button and it just started sparking” he said. “That’s weird, we only got that put in recently. Ah we’ll have to ring the fella I suppose. Wait a minute and I’ll get Sam for ya” she said. He waited there for a moment. Sam arrives at the door, “Heyyy, I’ve been trying to ring ya, is everything okay?” she said. “Ah yeah, everything is grand. I fell asleep early last night. I went to answer the phone this morning and dropped my phone in the sink. It’s completely fucked now” he said. “Aww noo, you silly sausage” she said. They both laugh about it and Sam hugs him. “Will we go into town then?” she said. “Ah yeah, we might run into the lads too” he said. Sam grabs her bag and they walk to town.

**8.**

Luke wakes up, and finds that the pain in his arm is gone. It’s as if the broken bone healed itself overnight. “But how?” he wondered, “My arm was in agony yesterday and now it’s fine.” He stretches his arms out while he yawns. Both of his arms stretch beyond their usual capacity, leaving a hole in the wall to his right. His other arm flops as it hits the concrete. He tries to pull his right arm out of the wall. It falls to the ground and flops like his left. Both arms look as if they’ve been stretched out like chewing gum.

He starts to panic. He doesn’t know what to do. He can’t let his parents see him this way. He tries to get his arms to go back to normal but it’s no use. He stops for a minute, takes a deep breath and starts to focus. His arms start to shrink back to their usual form. He can feel his bones solidify again. “The meteor fragment! It must have given me superpowers! I can stretch like Mr. Fantastic!” he said. Then, Luke thought to himself, “No bully will ever mess with me again. In fact, maybe it’s time I messed with them myself”.

**9.**

Morgan and Sam stop for lunch at Mick’s, a local chipper. Morgan and his friends spend a lot of time there. They near the end of their chips and their milkshakes, when their friends walk in. “Well lads” Morgan said. They all greet and sit together for a while. Morgan’s friends decide to order food so they stay for a while longer. There’s a number of them, both boys and girls. They fill the two booths that sit by the window nearest to the entrance.

Luke walks in. He makes his way to the counter and orders to go. One of the meaner boys in Morgan’s group spots him, “Ah there’s the freak lads”. The meaner boy throws his can of coke at Luke’s head. It’s half empty. Luke’s glasses fall to the floor. He can’t see. He scrambles on the floor, looking for his glasses. The whole group of teens begin to burst into laughter. Everyone except Sam. She smacks Morgan in the chest with the back if her hand and he stops laughing. Sam picks up Luke’s glasses and hands them to him. He cleans them before putting them on. He looks at Sam and smiles. “Thanks Sam” he said. Luke always liked Sam. She was always nice to him. People rarely were.

Luke’s order comes out. He grabs it and makes his way out the door. He looks angry. “Just wait” he thinks. “You won’t go near me again after tonight”. Morgan and his friends leave the chipper. They go home to get ready for the party tonight. Morgan needs to unwind after this morning.

**10.**

Morgan makes it home. He goes up to his room and changes his clothes. He wants to look nice for Sam. He goes downstairs, and his mother is making dinner, “Ooooh, you look nice. Are you heading off now or will I plate up dinner for you?” she said. “No thanks Ma. I’m not that hungry”. Morgan makes his way to meet Sam. The party is by a lake. Sam and Morgan meet on the road leading to the lake. Morgan smiles as she shows up. She kisses him and grabs his hand. They walk towards the lake. Their whole school year is here.

Sam spots the girls. They all wave and greet from a distance. “I’m going to spend some time with the girls. Will you be okay without me?” joked Sam. “Hmmmm, I suppose I can go an hour or two. C’mere to me first though”. Morgan grabbed Sam by the waist and kissed her. She walked away, and Morgan couldn’t help but watch her as she did. His grin met from ear to ear. Sam never failed to leave Morgan smitten. “Ah look at this soft chap lads. Are ya blushing there, Morgan?” It was his best friend, Mark, along with their other friends. “Ah, you go away. I’ve seen how you are with your missus all ‘Mwah mwah, I love you sugar plum, mwah mwah’” Morgan’s friends begin to burst out laughing. “Ah fuck off” Mark shouts. He pushes Morgan in a playful manner. Morgan and Mark often have back-to-back banter, but it never gets nasty. If there’s one thing they know, it’s how to take a joke.

Mark pulls out a bag of weed. “you smoking tonight lad?” he said to Morgan. “Nah, not tonight” Morgan replied, “I’m gonna have a few drinks but that’s it. I always pull a whitey when I mix green and beer”. Mark is midway through rolling a joint. He has tobacco in the skin, and a neatly packed roach. “Suit yourself”, said Mark. He puts the weed into his grinder and turns the top. Morgan can hear the clanging and scraping of the top and bottom half turning against one another. He could hear the weed breaking apart. Mark screwed the top half off to reveal the now grinded weed. It sat above the wire mesh compartment, green and flaky. Mark sprinkled a decent layer of weed onto the tobacco and rolled it up. He could always shape it into the perfect cone. Mark places the joint into his mouth and pulls a lighter from his pocket. He tries to light it up, but the flame is not igniting. He runs his finger across the spark multiple times to ignite it. Suddenly, the music in the distance stops, and all that can be heard, are screams.

**11.**

Morgan and his friends run towards the screaming. They were curious to see what was happening. They make their way to the edge of the lake to find Luke. His arms and legs are stretched out like gum. He was scaring people. Throwing and kicking different things brought by everyone. Bags, beers, tables, chairs. He was angry. “You won’t bully me ever again assholes!” he shouted. Morgan had to think. He knew he could attempt to stop him at the very least. He needed to figure out a way of doing so without anyone seeing.

He finds Sam. They start to run together. Morgan is still thinking. “Oh my god! I didn’t see Mark get away. I should go look for him. Keep running with everyone else”. Morgan ran towards Luke. “Morgan wait!”

**12.**

Morgan nears the lake. Luke is still there. He has his arm wrapped around Mark’s neck like rope around a pole. Morgan was surprised. He didn’t think Morgan was actually left behind. Morgan runs up to Luke. “STOP!” he yells. “And what are you going to do?” Luke replies, “Sam isn’t here to stop you this time. As if she could.” Morgan feels a flush of anger. A pulse of lighting starts to glow from his chest, disintegrating his shirt. and moves down his arm. He points it at Luke and blasts him. “You’re not the only one who’s changed.” Morgan said. Luke is surprised. He drops Mark, who is also surprised. “Run! Find the lads and get away from here!”. Mark didn’t hesitate to get up and run the other way. It was the first time he felt outmatched in a fight.

“So, you found a meteor fragment too then?” Luke remarked. “Yeah, I had a feeling that was what this is about” Morgan replied “We don’t have to do this man. I know we gave ya a hard time but it was only a laugh”. Luke was further enraged. “Was it funny when you and your friends emptied my bag into the toilet in 5^(th) class?” he reminisced, “When Mark broke my glasses on the first day of secondary school after he pushed me over? Sam may have stopped you from picking on me, but you’re still a bully. Just like them. I don’t know what she sees in you. She’s such a kind girl. And clever too. You don’t deserve her!” Luke’s eyes were filled with tears. He started to look more enraged.

He stretches his arm out far and swings a fist into Mark’s face. He’s knocked to the ground. Morgan picks himself up. He looks Luke in the eye, with a look of anger on his face. Lighting fills his eyes. He aims his hands towards Luke and blasts him. Luke is stunned for a moment but the blast does not harm him. “Hah! I must be conductive like rubber. I didn’t feel that at all!”. Morgan is stumped. His blast only stunned Luke for a moment. Luke grabs Morgan by the throat, again wrapping his arm around like a rope on a pole. Morgan slowly begins to lose his breath. He needs Baxter’s help but he can’t call for him. He’s too far away.

While in the comfort of Morgan’s bedroom, Baxter lays in bed asleep. His head jerks up and his ears perk sharply. He hears Morgan’s voice, echoing in the back of his head, *“Baxter...I need you”.*

**13.**

Sam is waiting by the exit for Morgan to return. Everyone else has made it out safe. She sees someone approach from the way of the lake. She hopes that it’s Morgan. She doesn’t know what she would do if something happened to him. The figure gets closer and Sam can see that it is Mark. “Where’s Morgan? He said he went to find you.” She said. “He’s still back there with that freak, Luke. Don’t go back there Sam. It’s dangerous.” Mark replied. Sam didn’t listen and ran towards the lake. She had to make sure that Morgan was okay.

**14.**

Luke still has his arm around Morgan’s neck. Morgan could feel Luke’s grip get tighter. He didn’t want to pass out. Morgan noticed that Luke was standing in a small body of water. Unsure whether it will help him or not, Morgan blasts the water. The water is electrified. It does some damage, and Luke is stunned. He thrusts Morgan aside. Morgan is winded. He doesn’t know how much longer he can fight. Both Morgan and Luke pick themselves up. “Luke, please. I never wanted to pick on you. Really. I was just trying to fit in with the lads. I know that’s wrong. But we can start over” Morgan pleaded. “It’s too late for that! You only want to be friends now because you can’t pick on me anymore. Because it’s convenient for you!”.

Morgan didn’t know what to say. He knew that Luke was right. He had contributed to Luke’s bullying for years. It didn’t matter how much Sam disapproved of his doing so. He wanted to fit in. That’s what mattered to him. Luke looks angrily at Morgan. His arm elongates. Steering towards a metal pole. It looks like the leg off of a fold up table. He throws it at Morgan. Morgan stands there in shock. The pole is coming for him but he can’t move. Time slows down as it inches closer towards him. Morgan feels something push him out of the way in time. It’s Baxter. “NO!” shouted Luke.

Confused, Morgan looks around. He is shocked to find the metal pole had pierced through Sam instead. He runs over and pulls the pole out. “No! Sam, please!” he shouts. He turns his head, and looks at Luke dead in the eye. Luke is sobbing. “I’m sorry! P-please, don’t send that demon hound after me. I don’t know if he’s immune to my p-powers!” he pleaded. Morgan didn’t care. He rose and started walking towards Luke. Baxter stayed with Sam. Luke started to back into the lake. Morgan blasts the water with electricity. Luke is in pain. It’s obvious from his screams. Morgan’s blast becomes stronger and he shouts as he electrifies the lake.

Sam, struggling to stay conscious, can see Morgan. She doesn’t understand what’s happening but she knows that she does not want him to kill Luke. She grabs Baxter by the paw. “St-stop him...please.” Baxter runs to Morgan. “Leave him. He’s not worth it. Be with Sam while you can”. Morgan calms down. Luke lays in the lake, limp and stretched out like gum. He begins to float away. Morgan makes his way over to Sam. “Sam?” he said. No response. “Sam, wake up please!”. Still no response. Morgan begins to weep, repeating her name over and over. “This is all my fault! You were always so kind to him. You always stopped me from treating him like shit and you were right! If Luke wasn’t bullied so much, maybe you would still be alive. I promise you Sam, I will use my powers for good! I’ll look out for the little guy and Baxter will help me. And I’m gonna go to college too! I’ll get a degree and become a youth councillor! I’ll do everything I can to stop more Luke’s from exploding and hurting people! We can’t be the only people to be cursed with these abilities. I promise, Sam. I will help them.”

First draft finished!

Introduction

On the 22^(nd) of June 2018, at approximately 7:35 pm, a meteor flew into the earth’s atmosphere. It landed in the Irish Sea. Fragments of the meteorite broke off as it entered the atmosphere, and were spread across Ireland and the UK. This day changed Earth forever as it ushered the beginning of what became known as the “Hero Age” of our history. Of course, with every super hero, there comes a slew of villains. Most of the time, power ends up in the wrong hands, and there’s nothing that we can do about that. But sometimes, power ends up exactly where it needs to be, with who it needs to be with.

1.

2.

Baxter goes for the water too making lots of *Mlep* noises.

4.

I still don’t fully know what is happening yet.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

10.

11.

12.

He hears Morgan’s voice, echoing in the back of his head, “Baxter...I need you”.

13.

14.

1.

2.

Baxter goes for the water too making lots of *Mlep* noises.

4.

I still don’t fully know what is happening yet.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

10.

11.

12.

He hears Morgan’s voice, echoing in the back of his head, “Baxter...I need you”.

13.

14.

Feedback for children's book Im working on

Hey everyone, I'm writing a childrens book at the moment and I just wanted some feedback. This is my third draft. Please let me know what you think. 👏

There is a dog dear to me, and Bowie is his name

His fur mostly black, but his chest white as snow.

He loves to cuddle, loves a pet and playing with his ball,

He’s my dog and I’m his boy, I’d have no other way.

Often more than not, Bowie makes his great escape,

And into the world, the happy boy goes to run and play.

Off he goes to see it all, and have his own adventures,

That is until I find him, and have to carry him back home.

First off, Bowie likes to check his favourite apple tree,

He stops to eat an apple, and rest in the shade.

Next, he finds a bed of flowers and sniffs each one-by-one,

Only for a bee to sting him as he gets to the last.

Last of all, Bowie visits his favourite spot of all,

The garden of a woman, who likes to feed the birds.

When the woman walks away from the food left out,

Bowie takes his chance, and darts to take it first.

It isn’t long before I find the messer having fun,

I make my way to catch him, but he runs away with haste.

Eventually, I catch him, and he tries to play it sweet,

But I’m out of breath, my feet hurt and I’m not having any of it.

Yet, I can’t stay mad, he was just having fun,

After all, he’s my dog and I’m his boy, I’d have no other way.

Beginning of a short story

Hi everyone. I made a post last week about a comic I'm working on about a guy and his dog who gain abilities from a meteorite fragment. I've reworked the initial concept a good bit and instead of focusing on Baxter and Morgan, there will be a team of heroes, all with their own backstory. This is the intro and the first chapter to Baxter and Morgan's story. I know it isn't much to go off of but please let me know what you think.

ZAP AND THE ZIPPER

“By xxxxxxxxxxx”

Morgan Sparrow just turned 18 and he just finished his last year of school. He wants to spend his last summer before college spending time with his friends and his girlfriend of 2 years, Sam. His plans are sent askew when one day as he is walking his dog, a rock hits him in the head and changes his life forever. Morgan picks up the rock to discover that it is glowing and there looks to be electricity inside. The rock breaks and Morgan is overtaken by the electricity inside....and so is his dog Baxter. The next morning, Morgan is shocked to find that his dog can talk....but that’s not all. They are both gifted with amazing abilities!

However, they aren’t the only ones to come across a strange meteor fragment.  Luke Finch, a kid in Morgan’s class was often bullied for being weak and nerdy. Though Morgan was ashamed of it, he often joined in on the jokes to fit in. The truth was, he always felt bad for Luke. On the same day as Morgan, Luke was trying to outrun a number of bullies. He got to a bridge, but they caught up with him and threw him into the river below. He made his way out, and his arm was broken. A meteor fragment falls from the sky and his new abilities healed his broken arm. He decides to plan his revenge and gate crash his classes graduation party. As everyone runs away, Morgan stays to try and stop him. Will he be able to talk him down? Or will it escalate into a fight?

**Introduction**

On the 22^(nd) of June 2018, at approximately 2:35 pm, a meteor flew into the earth’s atmosphere, and landed in the Irish Sea. However, fragments of the meteorite broke off as it entered the atmosphere, and were spread across Ireland and the UK.

Baxter had ran for a considerable time and Morgan felt it was time to leave. He calls Baxter over and starts to get up, when a rock falls from the sky and hits him in the head. “Ow!” he squeals. Baxter comes to make sure he is okay. Morgan pets him and says “Dont worry buddy I’m okay. It was just this- woah, weird rock”. As it stops they both fall to the ground and pass out.

New to script writing

Hey everyone. I'm currently developing my first comic book character in a long time. I used to do it a lot as a kid but I lost the passion for it as a teenager. I'm getting back into it now as an adult and I wanted to get some feedback on a concept I wish to develop further. Currently I have not started the script but I have a synopsis, bio on the main characters of the story and a hook to establish a long term arc which will develop over time.

I take a lot of inspiration from other comics but I try to be as original as possible. Chances are, I haven't written anything special but I hope you can see the vision I wish to develop.

I cant drop a document so here's a copy and paste of the text:

The Adventures of Green-Man and Mach K-9

Synopsis

One year ago, Morgan Sparrow and his dog Baxter went on a walk and discovered a meteor fragment which contained a bolt of lightning that gave them superpowers. Morgan’s powers are tied to nature. He can control different flora such as trees, grass, flowers etc. He can also manipulate the air around him to shoot himself into the air and glide short distances. On top of this, he can manipulate water and absorb it to create waves he can surf on, and it comes in handy for crowd control in a fight. Baxter was given super speed, enhanced perception, increased strength to that greater of the average human. He can also create mini tornados if he runs around in circles fast enough.

Two years prior to this, Morgan lost his sister and he almost left college as a result, but he kept hearing his sister tell him to keep going. She was always so proud of him for pursuing a career in social care, so he can help people in need. Morgan was not the only one to come across a fragment, and there is also the issue of the meteorite currently in the sea between the UK and Ireland. Both countries have seen a surge in “super-powered activity”. Morgan has been training with Baxter to hone their abilities. The Meteor in the Irish Sea

Because of consistent struggles between the UK and Irish government, no one has had the opportunity to examine the meteor under the sea, until recently. In the last 3 weeks, multiple people have been sent to examine it, and no one has come back. What no one knows is that the power within was given to a number of sea creatures who, as a result, evolved into sentient humanoid beings who have established civilised life under the sea for themselves. They would later be known simply as the “Sea People”. They don’t like unexpected guests and will do what they can to protect what they have.
