Inherited a 300K 7.3 PS beauty. Tips to keep it forever?
So, recently got the gift of a 24 foot beast of a 4WD, single wheel 4dr F250 with a long bed, sliding fifth wheel. Bush bar and ranch style tailgate. Has a tuner, coolant filter, enclosed aftermarket intake. Paint is faded of course, but engine runs like a top, exhaust clear as my conscience and has trouble reaching 180 coolant/oil unloaded off the interstate. Previous owner seemed responsible.
Long story short, it's hauled RV's and wants to work still. I'm wondering...
When/if should I rebuild?
How much to rebuild the front end, drive line and all corners? Trans fluid looks great, shifts great unloaded. But I've got a torn boot on the front, and the carrier bearing looks shot.
It's got a Garrett turbo, is that OEM or another contention for replacement?
I've worked on 95+ broncos and f150's, but I don't know diesels and honestly wouldn't mind dropping money for all bearings replaced. Doesn't leak, AC cold as hell but might need a clutch, 4wd works and starts in negative temps.
