Can a 1999.5 to 2001 Federal “auto” main engine harness work on a 2000 ZF6 7.3?

(Photo for engagement)

I have looked everywhere but can’t find a definitive answer on this for 1999.5-2001 trucks. Is the man harness connection pin layout different?

My 2000 F450 7.3 ZF6 needs the top/main engine harness replaced. The harness that runs across the top of the motor and plugs into the valve covers, ICP/IPR, etc.

I know the 2002 and 2003 manual trucks had some harness differences and extra coolant sensor stuff, but from what I can tell my 2000 is the earlier simpler setup (VOAA strategy, Federal emissions).

I found the Prosource Diesel 99.5 to 01 Federal “auto” harness and visually it matches mine exactly:
- same routing
- same UVCH connectors
- same connector count
- same plugs everywhere

Only difference I can find is the replacement harness has the EBPV flap actuator connector in the valley and mine does not.

Prosource says it won’t work because it’s for an automatic truck, but I’m struggling to see what would actually be different on the engine side.

Has anyone actually used one of these “auto” harnesses on an early manual truck?

Fuel tank upgrade

Is it worth it to put a bigger fuel tank on a 2011 6.7 supercrew cab short bed?

I’m sure the 26 gallon tank is fine and dandy but seems silly when my f150 with the little 4.6 engine has a 35 gallon tank.

I’m considering the S&B 56 gallon tank or something similar to that.

What’s the downside of upgrading? Does the extra weight matter much?

6.0 or 7.3 — still the most divisive question in the Powerstroke world

Been wrenching on both for years and this debate never gets old. The 7.3 crowd will tell you it just runs forever and they're not wrong. But I've seen bulletproofed 6.0s outlast everything around them too.

My take — the 7.3 is the better engine but the 6.0 is the better truck overall if you actually fix it right from the start. EGR delete, oil cooler, ARP head studs and you've got something.

What are y'all running and what's your honest take?

07 F250

07 F250

Having some weird problems recently with the stock turbo. On startup I cannot hear the turbo whistle from the exhaust. My map and baro are identical, also just changed the ebp sensor. I noticed that when you start to drive after it warms up you hear almost like a screech and then you hear the turbo spooling. After that the truck acts normal until it cools down again. I have read about it possibly being a stuck unison ring but wouldn’t that cause it to happen all the time? My boost is reading anywhere from 5-12 psi on normal acceleration and 20-22 wot. Any thoughts?

If I’m trying to make my 06 6.0 daily reliable what should I do

We just got a 6.0 with 97,000 miles we’re not trying to push boost it’s a tow rig for our race cars. I’m just curious what should I do to make/keep it reliable I drive about 20 miles one way to work and we barely burned fuel on the way to and from work. I see people say to stud the heads and delete the egr which I don’t have emissions so I can do the egr just not looking to do the heads just yet.

7.3 died at highway speed

Coincidentally, I stopped and purchased 5 gallons of diesel to top it off. Got about 15 miles down the road and the truck stopped dead. I drew a sample of diesel. See no contaminants no water has the appearance of diesel, fuel smell, etc. after I got to the side of the road started once stopped, started once stopped immediately after dropping off by tow. I replaced the camshaft sensor to no avail. Any ideas are welcomed. Oil level and is good.

2005 6.0, 375k miles, sounding a bit slow on start up. Anyone run into a slower crank like this? Not able to check for codes at the moment. Runs and drives fine otherwise. Thank you.

AC compressor clutch failing? Need diagnosis help.

Hey all, any idea what's happening here? 02 F-350 7.3L, about 175k miles. Truck sat idle for a week while I was out of town and now I'm noticing the AC compressor engaging/disengaging pretty frequently. Doesn't feel or sound like normal behavior and I haven't seen or heard it do this before.

From what I've read, potential causes can be:
- Clutch coil failing
- Air gap too large
- Low refrigerant
- Compressor itself starting to go

In a tight spot financially right now so looking to repair myself if possible. Any tips on where to start diagnosing? And this isn’t normal behavior, correct?

One thing I noticed: it happens most frequently with AC set to cold, max fan, max AC. But I'm also seeing it happen when set to heat with the fan on. Doesn't happen when AC/heat + fan is turned off entirely.

Also — is it alright to drive with AC off for now until I figure out the fix? Don't want to cause any longer term damage. Thanks!

2002 F-250 7.3 Powerstroke Headlight Upgrade

This topic has been talked about time and time again but after searching many forums, I still haven’t found a great answer.

I have a 2002 F-250 with headlights that can be out-shined by my iPhone flashlight. They are yellow, terrible, and frankly dangerous.

What are the replacements you have tried that worked and things you would stay away from? I’m not looking for anything fancy or too difficult (re-wiring, trimming housing, etc). I simply just want to be able to see cows and deer on the road at night.

Let me know your experience and what you would do. Thanks

Any guesses?

Just bought this early 6.0 truck. Mainly bought it for the attachment which I plan to put on a new chassis down the road, but plan to run it for the time being. The motor is bone stock…for now. I did see this under the hood, so I’m wondering what was done to it. Maybe not bone stock after all 🤷🏼‍♂️

6.0 Turbo problems

I noticed earlier that after starting my truck and driving around the lot I could not hear the turbo spooling at all. My boost gauge read anywhere from -.55 to about 1 psi. Seemed abnormal and when I got the rpms up to 2000 or so I heard the turbo kick in. My 30 minute drive was fine, but after pulling on to my road and going about 10 mph I noticed that it was not spooling again. No codes came up, any thoughts?

7.3L Powerstroke Reliable?

I'm looking to get a new truck currently got a 04 6.0 F-450. I'm thinking either a 2nd Gen Cummins idk which engine yet, or a 99-03 7.3L. only down side to the 2nd Gen is that I want to have kids and don't wanna shove them in a extended cab, so the 7.3L is the next best.

I know everyone says the 7.3L will go "millions of miles" and "last forever", but I'm curious if it truly does.

Are you guys and gals able to tell me what your 7.3L are at and what maintenance you've done to get it there.

I just want a reliable truck, something easy to work on and be the last truck I truly need to own.

2005 6.0 Shut Off

I was driving my truck down the road on Sunday coming home under light throttle I heard the turbo unspool and realized the truck shut off. I pulled off the road and it wouldn’t start again. Used my buddies truck to take my jetskis home and brought back 5 gallons of diesel thinking maybe the fuel level sensor was off because I had a little less than a quarter tank and it’s been acting funny. Still wouldn’t start and plugged my code reader in to find an injector pressure code, I don’t remember the exact code and didn’t take a picture like an idiot. I cleared it and it started but after about 10 mins and conveniently pulling onto the road for my house it shut off again and wouldn’t start. I have seen on the forums it’s more than likely an issue with the high pressure oil system. Didn’t know if anyone else has had this issue and can point me in the right direction for parts.

2008 F350 6.4L Starter Replacement Question

I recently replaced the starter in my 08 F350 and I noticed an orange thicker wire just in behind the starter with a connector on it. Just wondering if someone knows what that connector is for. Looks like it heads into the engine? Maybe the transmission. Whatever is immediately behind the starter if you’re looking up at it from below.

(Its not the battery lead to the starter post I’m talking about here)
