Discussion on Sanshou Sanda as a self defence martial art/sport?

Now, most people don't get into the fights, nor they want to so it's not one of those "what to choose so that I can fight in the streets" type of post!

What I'd love to hear is your opinion on how well the ruleset/style would be suitable for a real life self defence situation?

I think the general opinion is that MMA works the best because you have many different tools you can use, however, MMA takedowns are, more often than not, are not suitable for concrete (you will mess up your own legs), as well as the ruleset encourages pacing yourself instead of going in aggressively (since there are many rounds that take 5min each).

Do you think Sanda, despite not having submissions at all, have plenty of systems/rules in place that would translate well in the self-defence situation? Short rounds (aggression), standing takedowns (not messing yourself up on the pavement), long distance striking, short clinch/ground time (less risk of being stabbed or hurt by any other foreign object/friends), lei tai platform (developing more focus on the surroundings).

In other words, I'd love to hear the opinions whether Sanda, in your opinion, would be a good sport/art for real life scenarios, and why (or why not)?

Since the plot is heavily leaning on karma/mysterious species/intel gathering, I thought it just makes sense for Orochimaru to play some role in it. After all he was always the person (snake?) that researched and knew a lot of information. He also has experience with cursed seals which is a bit similar to karma. We also haven't seen him having an all out battle since his fight with the 3rd hokage (even then he wasn't too serious).

Wouldn't it make sense for him to contribute to the main story by providing some intel/research, have an all out battle with one of the enemies and then die due to the enemy being stronger than him?
He always prioritized the desire to understand the world and life secrets, however, by being immortal he will never be able to understand what it means to sacrifice and experience death, which is an essential part of life in itself.

Will we see him again? will it be something meaningful story-wise? Will we see him having an all out fight ever again?

Let me know what you think!
