Still putting everything in mouths?

Anyone else's kid still putting things in their mouth still? We've definitely made progress and my little man is teething but his new favorite thing is to eat his crayons....

We now give him a warning then take the item away and redirect but it happens so often still!

18 month short nap

My 18 month old has had very short 30 minute naps the last 2 days. He lays or rolls around in his crib for another 45 min, but by the hour mark of being awake he starts to get worked up. I can't tell if he's not tired, or if he's protesting the nap.

Bedtime was pretty normal, not cranky or seemingly overtired, though he did have a false start last night 50 min after falling asleep.

Schedule is
7am wake
12-2 nap
8-8:30 asleep

Another element is he's been having EMWs between 4-5am where he lays or rolls around for about an hour then falls asleep again from 6-7am. Could that extra hour sleep be throwing him off?

2 days in a row of this has me confused! .

words of encouragement for 18 month old

Hi all. I'm here looking for some encouragement, success stories, and maybe a little tough love (gentle tough love... I'm fragile 😂) to help me finally re-sleep train my 18-month-old.

The short version: sleep has been inconsistent for the last 4 months. Between travel, teething, illnesses, regressions, and a huge wave of separation anxiety, we've slowly slipped into survival mode. Somewhere along the way we started co-sleeping from around 3-7 a.m., and now it's become the norm. It's time to break the habit.

He was sleep trained at 6 months but things really unraveled around 14 months, and since then we've mostly been putting band-aids on the problem instead of fixing it. Right now, bedtime is actually pretty good. We use the chair method, and he'll fall asleep independently with me sitting across the room in about 15-45 minutes.

The real issue is overnight. He typically wakes sometime between 1-5 a.m. Sometimes it's once, sometimes it's three times. The second he wakes, he stands up and cries. As soon as I walk into the room, he'll immediately lie back down, but then I have to stay in the room until he's asleep again. Hence, if it's after about 3 a.m., we’d gotten into the habit of bringing him into our bed because we're exhausted.

But now my husband and I have travel coming up, and my parents will be watching him for a few nights. I don't think it's fair to expect them to co-sleep or be up multiple times a night, and honestly, we're all ready for better sleep.

Schedule is
6:30/7am wake (ideally)
12-2:15 nap (at daycare)
7:20 bath, pjs, etc.
7:45 into crib
8-8:30 asleep

So... if you've re-sleep trained a toddler around this age after months of inconsistency, I'd love to hear your success stories.

I know what I need to do. I just need a little confidence to actually follow through.

18 month regression

My little one is almost 18 months and definitely showing signs of the 18 month regression (short naps, 30-45 min to fall asleep at night, separation anxiety, ~2 night wakings and EMWs. we've got em all!) I have the ABCs of sleep from when we first started sleep training at 6 months.

Should I go back into ABCs of Sleep to try to re-establish some of the skills/not let the regression take over toooo much? I don't have the Bumps Along the Way package from when I purchased it years ago.

Also open to any tips on surviving the 18 month regression!

bedtime routine

What's everyones bedtime routine? I've been behind on dropping bottles and have finally thrown them all out (to stop my own temptation) but can't quite figure out when to give milk before bed.

Currently routine:

Bath + brush teeth
Bottle while we put on PJs and read a book
Cuddles for 5min then into crib

Leaving the room to brush teeth after books feels like it will excite him, should we do milk before bath??

Suggestions for getting off bottles

I've delayed getting my 1/29 baby old off a bottle -- mostly because we do a nanny share and the other child is younger and still on bottles which was causing major jealousy and difficulties. The other family + the nanny and I have all decided this is the time to do it for both kiddos.

Currently he gets a bottle when he wakes, before nap, and before bed. We have the dr. browns straw bottles and he'll drink milk out of them occasionally but obviously doesn't prefer it.

So need suggestions on:

  1. I'm thinking of starting with the morning bottle and changing that to straw
  2. Any cups that your kiddos like that could tip back like a bottle? He likes to lay with his milk.
  3. I need to shift the bottle up in his bedtime routine (currently has it after bath before bed but after brushing teeth and i'd like to move it earlier before teeth brush - is that important?)
  4. Do I do this staggered? Start with morning bottle, then onto nap, etc?

Thanks for the suggestions and insights!

Lost interest in food

Meal time seems to be more of a fight or he just gets bored and wants to move on.

He’s always been a good eater, would eat and try anything. Now he’ll eat a little then want to get down and play. I’d say he has one good meal a day then trying to offer healthy, protein snacks and not just puffs, etc.

Pediatrician said to look at the intake over a week, so I’m not worried necessarily, more so is this a phase that passes?

My son (Jan 29th bday) has suddenly had absolute meltdowns all day. He can normally be distracted and redirected and content but he's really struggling today.

I was out of town for a week for work and just got home so I'm wondering if he's just having big time separation anxiety -- i spent time with him over the weekend but now, today with the nanny he's inconsolable and had a rough nap day.

Do we think this is just kinda a re-remembering that mom's home and wtf now she's gone again? And after a few days he'll readjust? He's also been drooling and hands in the mouth a ton, so could it be major teething? But it seems more emotional than physical.

I guess this is more so a "ugh! i'm sad!" post than actual needs suggestions? idk this just feels so different than other times!
