Driving from Santiago to VN

Hi. I’m flying into SCL on 8/20 and currently have a rental from Sixt for a an economy SUV which is front wheel drive only.

We will stay at VN for a week and then drive to Los Andes and hopefully do some day-trips to Portillo over the course of 2 weeks.

For the entire 3 weeks I have a pretty good price — less than $800. Is this good enough, or do I need a 4WD? It will raise my price $200-300, but safety is more important.

G3 Pivot Poles Failure

Wondering if I should get a new pair or if there is something better out there.

I’ve used them extensively since 2022, and I think they’ve held up very well except for the last couple of times, where I can’t get the middle section to slide out (where it clicks with the spring-loaded nub). If I do get it to slide out half way, I can’t get it to slide back.

Is there a possibly a way to repair them, or not worth it? I’m actually in Argentina right now and wanted to use them for some side country support, and that’s where I realized the problem.

Cerro Catedral - switchback under Nire

Does anyone know where the switchback between Nire and Nubes leads to? Is there an exit?

ISO Waterproof Insulated Snow Sneakers

Do any J brands make something stylish that can be worn in the snow and rain? Currently in Bariloche AR and seeing lots of ugly options. My own shoes are vibrofeet insulated sneakers, but not waterproof.

Summit fitness center

Why is it like there’s nobody in the room and when one person enters they want to use the machine I’m using, and asks me to share it?

Mt Yotei - early January 2027?

Wondering what the likelihood is I could splitboard tour Mt Yotei in early January. I’ll be on Hokkaido Dec 1 - January 10. I don’t have a touring partner though. Can anyone recommend a site for linking up with partners?

Snowboard ✈️ roller - looking for recommendations

I have a Db in a wonderful dirty orange color, which is great for one board and boots, but for my next trip I want to take my resort board with softboots and my splitboard with hard boots. There is no way I’ll get both of them in the Db.

Previously I had an awesome Defiance board bag from Level 9 Sports (SLC) but it was stolen. I don’t think it’s made anymore.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Wife started HRT and TRT - now she wants me to join on TRT

So I’m 53 and she’s 41. My sperm reports were not great (50% viable) but we tried ivf a few times 5 years ago. No dice on a kiddo. I kind of hoped it might happen naturally, but no such luck.

Fast forward till the present. I did a quest diagnostics test and have about 600 total, 53 free and I forget the sex bound, but it was high.

During consultation, I learned TRT will kill sperm, effectively killing any chance of a kiddo (I’ve never had one). Wife of 41 says she doesn’t want one now at her age (though I still feel she’s young).

Trying to decide what to do.

How soon can I book Nozawaonsen for 2027?

I’m planning to be there January 10-28, 2027. When do ryokans in the area typically open for booking?

Last year I tried to book in November 2027 for Japanuary 2026 and was too late.

Thanks!

I’m a U.S. citizen currently living in the Pacific Northwest. My wife and I have decided to sell our home and spend the next 4-5 months in South America. I will transfer my business address to a virtual mailbox, use a VPN while traveling and have a phone with an international plan.

Are there any caveats I should be concerned about while trying to grow my business while traveling?
