20 days until my trip out West (US)

Hey advrider group,

I'm leaving Georgia mid-July and heading west with a 2015 CRF250L and an XR150L in my truck. I'm driving to Colorado to do some trail riding there. Mostly BDR stuff and some cool trails around Telluride is the plan for now. Then heading to Moab, swingarm city, that area of Utah. Then heading North to SLC for Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Picking up the XR150L rider there, then heading south back to Moab and Arches to ramble around there some more for a couple days. They are flying home after that. Then I'm heading to Vegas for a friend's thing. Maybe keep going to SoCal? The plan is to head back East through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas etc back to Georgia.

Questions for the group:

  1. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

  2. What else should I try to go do and see? I love riding, but there's so much more than just trails and parks in those states. I just don't know about them yet.

  3. Any other input?

Context: This is a sort of loosely dated trip lasting 4 to 6 weeks ish, but I'm in a place in life where I can kind of ramble around a bit and I want to do that while it's possible. I'll be camping for a lot of it but definitely staying in some hotels too along the way every couple days to refit and while I'm in the cities. I'd like to incorporate good city/town exploring as well as the trails. Also, I've been riding for about 15 years now and feel pretty confident riding solo on trails. I have a good tool set, extra tubes, PLB, large fuel tank+bottles, water, first aid kit/knowledge, etc.

What do you think, group? Any roadside attractions, cool spots to check out, restaurants, roads, etc you wish others could see?

Help! Berry identification

Hey reddit,

I need help identifying this berry in my yard. My dog ate a bunch of them and I'm not sure what they are!

Pictures below or the berries on the ground, a berry in my hand, and trees in the area where they have fallen.

Engine sound help

Hey r/sportster,

I have a 2007 sportster 1200 and need some help. I know the sewing machine sound and this aint it! I bought the bike a week ago from an older guy who hadn't ridden it in a while and it wasn't making this sound then or over the past week. It just started on my ride today.

What do you think and where should I start?

For mechanical context, I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have had a bunch of bikes in my life. This is my first Harley though as of a week ago and really hoping it isn't something too crazy (even though it sounds like some kind of piston slap, knock, valve train something or other that costs some money).

Thanks for any input!

Update:

Wasn't the chain. The sound went away, I think because it cooled down, but still isn't right after it warmed up some.

The oil in the tank doesn't seem to be moving around and there is a small amount of smoke coming from the breather. Will try to post a video.

Hey group. I'm new here and was looking for some opinions to a super subjective question. I live in Southeastern USA for reference. I've been riding motorcycles for 15 years and dirt bikes for about a year. I'm relatively comfortable off road and love it.

I have a 2015 CRF250L. I generally ride on forest roads and some moderate chunky rocks, but nothing too crazy. I prefer adventure style riding, but some of the areas I ride can have spots that are moderately challenging. Think 4 inch rocks and powdery dry clay with ruts. Or sometimes decently steep hills covered in pine needles and partially wet leaves covering the 4 inch rocks. Shallow river crossings, etc.

I've been getting more into the idea of multi-day motorcycle camping and want to ultimately do some BDR style trips.

I was offered a trade for a 2020 KTM 390 Adventure with similar miles and in similar condition. Price wise they seem to be about the same. Performance wise I'm not sure. They CRF can do multiple day rides I'm sure, but it probably isn't designed for it and definitely not great on the roads between trails.

Question for the group: Am I missing something in the trade? Will I regret the off-road performance loss (if any)? How capable is the KTM 390 Adventure off road? I hear it's more of a motorcycle that can go off road than an off road bike that can go on road, is it still pretty capable off-road?

Any input in this scenario if it were you is appreciated!
