12.1 housing dye reference: 77 shades, 9 families, and herb-to-dye crafting chart

Hi,

Some results from PTR 12.1 on Dyes.

The 12.1 PTR updates and reworks housing dyes: the 77 dye colours are grouped into 9 family dye items (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, White). You buy or craft the family dye, and one dye applies any shade in that family — each application consumes 1 dye. 15 new shades in 12.1

Crafting is direct at the new Dye Crafting station:

10 of any one accepted herb = 1 family dye. Pigment step is removed (as far as I can tell - actual crafting isn't yet working).

Any quality tier of a tiered herb works, and each family accepts one herb from almost every expansion (Classic through Midnight).

The three charts:

  • The chip wall shows all 77 shades on nine racks, sorted light to dark.
  • The colour wheel plots every dye by hue (angle) and lightness (radius), with the ring showing its assigned family.
  • The herbs table lists which herb crafts which family's dye, by expansion.

This is PTR - so this may change, I'll update when 12.1 is released if there are changes.

Let me know if any questions!

All housing decor dyes - one swatch card

Hi all, sharing a hopefully useful picture of all of the dye colors, including their gradients. I've dropped a HTML with larger swatches in the r/WoWHousing discord too. The codes in the image are the color codes for the gradient start.

Hope this is a useful reference!

Housing Decor Guide v3.0.0 is out: a full rebuild (new engine, sidebar nav, architect, warehouse, move planner, house edittor)

Hello!

Vamoose's Housing Decor Guide

A complete ground-up rebuild, released now as v3.0.0. This addon puts every housing decoration in the game into one searchable catalog, shows you exactly where each piece comes from, and tracks what you've collected across your whole account.

What changed in v3.0.0

I rebuilt the whole thing on a new reactive engine: faster, leaner, and far easier for me to keep extending. The visible changes:

  • New left-sidebar navigation replaces the old tab strip (collapsible headers).
  • Architect. A drag-and-drop blueprint canvas to lay out rooms across floors before you build, with live room and decor budget bars and "what-if" version branching to experiment freely.
  • Move Planner. Moving plots? Pick your source and target and it gives the exact plot orientation - rotation (degrees plus compass direction) your house and yard facing will change, with neighborhood maps and facing diagrams.
  • Warehouse. Tracks lumber and every reagent across bags, bank, and warband bank separately, shows how much your craft queue and all your uncollected recipes still need, and includes a "Used In" cross-reference..
  • Your data upgrades automatically on first launch. Collections, favorites, item/vendor notes, shopping lists, crafting and farming history, saved styles, and per-character recipe knowledge all carry over. A one-time chat message confirms it. Settings reset to new defaults (will need to re-configure minimap, zone popup etc).
  • Config now lives in Blizzard's Settings panel. Open it from Game Menu, Options, AddOns, Housing Decor Guide (or /hdg config -> Main Settings).

What it does:

  • The full catalog with 3D previews. Browse every piece, rotate/zoom it, and preview the actual dye variants before committing. Favorites, a "collected" check, a craftable-recipe star, and dye colors at a glance. Your choice of background for the preview.
  • "Where do I get this?" Every piece shows source: which vendor (with cost plus Waypoint/Map buttons), which quest (and the alt who already completed it, account-wide), which achievement or reputation (with your live progress), or what it drops from or is crafted from.
  • One-click placement inside the House Editor. Place decor straight from your styles, shopping lists, snapshots, or recently-placed, with indoor/outdoor filtering and dye variants handled for you (and you can also get Vamoose's Dye Studio for help with decor dyeing).
  • Styles and design tools. Curate your collection into named Styles, or build Smart Sets from a deep tag taxonomy (room, mood, material, color, culture, motif, season, and more) with a live scored preview against the whole catalog. Snapshots save everything you've placed in a house as a reusable set.
  • Crafting and lumber. Browse craftable decor by profession, queue crafts with a materials and AH-cost panel, plus a standalone Lumber Tracker with a circular radar that plots nearby nodes around you and session gather-rate tracking.
  • Mogul. A profit table for all craftable decor and an optimizer that calculate best use of lumber for recipes by gold / new appearances for your collection.
  • Multiple color themes including a new wood-and-parchment "Housing Decor Guide" theme (carved-wood frame, wood-sign headers, stone panels) over a charcoal and gold palette.

It's account-wide aware throughout, so quest, recipe, and collection state read correctly no matter which alt did what.

Details

  • Optional hooks for TSM/Auctionator (pricing) and TomTom (waypoints).
  • Retail 12.0.5/7+ (Midnight). Open it with /hdg.

Links:

I'd love feedback: what's missing, what feels clunky, what sources are wrong. Bug reports and requests are very welcome on Discord or GitHub.

Happy Housing!

p.s. Still to come - Squirrel quotes for lumber farming, and I'm sure lots of polish.

Vamoose's Housing Decor Guide - what's new in May

Hello - thanks to everyone for their feedback and support. Lots of updates in the month of May!

New: Mogul tab - "what should I craft for profit?"

- A craft optimizer that takes your lumber stockpile and works out the most profitable mix of decor to make. Two planners - a fast greedy one and an LP/simplex one you can A/B compare - with per-tier lumber budgets.

- One click to send the whole plan to your crafting queue, or export the reagents to an Auctionator shopping list.

- **Supply Impact** modes (Off / Smooth / Cap) so it doesn't just tell you to craft 200 of the same chair - the plan diversifies as a recipe saturates the market.

- **Account view** includes recipes only your alts know, with a "Best on: <alt>" column. **Collection mode** flips it to cheapest-uncollected-first, to maximise new appearances per lumber.

House Editor companion upgrades

- Search box, indoor/outdoor filter, per-card placement-cost badges, and items you've fully placed (0 left in storage) are greyed out.

- New "By Placement Cost" collections (Small / Medium / Large / X-Large) and a live "recent placements" strip along the bottom.

- The companion is now a clean standalone window with a draggable launcher button while the editor is open. This also fixed the crashes some of you hit on Blizzard's Catalog/Market tab in 12.0.5.

Acquire tab: recipes learnt from a purchased scroll are now searchable

- "By Vendor" lists the recipes each vendor sells alongside the decor - with the currency cost, any renown requirement, and whether you've already learned it on any character. Recipe-only vendors also show - (Prey constructs).

Quest & achievement tracking

- Item detail now names the achievement/quest a piece comes from as a clickable link (achievements open the in-game window; quests link to Wowhead).

- The [Quest]/[Ach] tags dim until you've actually completed/earned them. Quest completion is tracked per character, account-wide - a quest you completed on one alt reads as done everywhere, and it shows which character did it. You will need to log in each alt to update this.

Styles / Style Curator

- Have / Need / All filter, a "Wishlist - Uncollected" source so you can plan a themed build before you own the pieces, and a big behind-the-scenes cleanup.

Performance & fixes

- Login no longer rebuilds the whole catalog making the first window open much snappier.

- Fixed recipe-knowledge detection across older expansions, crafting-queue add bugs, several 12.0.5 "secret value" taint crashes, and vendor map/coordinate corrections (Harandar, Zul'Aman, Bel'ameth, Founder's Point and more).

- Goblin tab now supports TSM DBMarket as a price source.

Major update - Vamoose's Dye Studio - Browse dye combos on a 3d model anywhere, save dye loadouts, apply from gallery in edit mode

VDS 2.0 is a complete rebuild of the addon with a much more flexible window layout system.

Now you can set up your dye loadouts for each decor anywhere.

  1. Sitting around outside a city, browse decor, try dye combos on the 3D model, save the ones you like as named loadouts per decor.
  2. Get home, open house edit mode, click the decor I want to re-dye, and pick from a gallery of my saved loadouts for that item. One click, applied.

And if you can't decide - I added a 'Random' button which will apply random dye colors to all channels on the selected decor.

  • Canvas tab - pick any dyeable decor, dye each channel on the 3D model, save "Loadout 1 / Loadout 2 / ..." Auto-named, hover-X to delete.
  • Live dye mode - replaces Blizzard's picker when you click a slot in house edit mode. Gallery of your saved loadouts for that item is right there; click to apply.
  • Stock tab - set targets for all dyes, per colour ("3 of each red") or individual dye color overrides, live deficit tracking across bags / bank / reagent bank / warband, one-click send-to-Auctionator (Buy mode = finished dyes; Craft mode = the herbs to craft them).

Plus the dye browser: all 62 dyes by hue / Blizzard groups / 23 curated themes / your own custom palettes (import/export as shareable strings).

Custom palettes from v1.x carry over. Auctionator is optional (only for the Send-to-AH button).

It's a major rebuild - let me know if anything breaking! I also switched around a lot of functionality - so if I broke or removed something you really liked / used let me know I'll try to get it back for you.

Now off to splash some dye around - enjoy!

Housing Decor Guide - the Mogul / Collectionator update

Hey all,

A new tab - 'Mogul'. Turning lumber barons into lumber moguls!

Profit mode: looks at all your lumber across bags, bank and warband and calculates the best set of decor to craft for maximum profit. As this usually turns out to be 60x barrels or similar, you can also cap or smooth the results to spread the craft recommendations.

You can select to include or exclude mats in the calculation - this doesnt change the calculation, just the revenue / net.

There are two algorithms (explained in tooltips) but honestly they will most often be 99% the same.

Active character / Account mode - needs you to have logged into each char to be included.

Once you are happy with the plan, you can send to the Recipes tab crafting queue with a click. Required reagents can also be sent to Auctionator shopping list.

Collection mode: A list of all the uncollected decor you can craft whilst maximising use of your current lumber stocks, to boost your collection. Again, covers active char or all char on your account.

Both views have a live update of lumber used, materials. Click a row to see materials for just that row, click again to see all materials for plan.

You can show or hide runners up if you want to see what didn't make the cut.

Let me know how it goes for you!

Prey Hunt Tracker - a small addon that helps you decide which prey to chase in Midnight's hunt system.

The major feature is support for achievements and tagging dialog choices so you know which target, difficulty and zone to choose to progress / complete an achievement.

What it does:

When you talk to Astalor in Silvermoon for creating your own hunt - and he asks "Which target do you seek to slaughter?", every option in the list gets a priority icon:

- Gold star - hunting this prey will finish an achievement (e.g. it's the last unfinished criterion, or it's an "either/or" achievement still open)

- Yellow dot - progresses an unfinished achievement but won't finish one

- ✓ check - every achievement with this prey is already earned

Hover any row for a tooltip showing exactly which achievements need that target, split into "Will progress" vs "Already credited" so you can tell what's still worth your kill..

The follow-up Normal/Hard/Nightmare difficulty step is annotated the same way - pick Mad Magisters (Hard)-relevant target on step 1, the Hard option lights up gold on step 2.

Random Hunt support: each difficulty is classified by overall progress at that tier (without knowing the rolled target yet), and once the random rolls in, a chat line announces whether the assigned target/difficulty contributes to an achievement.

Obligatory 4 dots that light up as you progress through the actual hunt itself, with hidden/cold/warm/hot text and torment status.

Also includes a /pht tabbed panel:

- Status tab: live dashboard (hunt heat, hunts available, renown, achievement totals, active quest, torment debuff)

- Targets tab: every Prey achievement broken down by NPC, sorted by who's needed most, plus a "By Achievement" view with per-criterion checkmarks and decor-reward callouts.

Compatible with the default Blizzard gossip frame, DialogueUI.

Happy Hunting!

Note - I originally released this a couple of months ago, discord only, but I thought the achievement tracking in dialog was worthy of sharing on curseforge.

Hello all!

Lots of updates over the last month! The biggest feature is the new dashboard with over 20 customisable, movable widgets. You can set it as the default panel on addon window open by right-clicking the chest in the title bar.

TL;DR - House tab is now a customisable widget dashboard ("Housing Cockpit"). Favorite decor items in Preview tab; Preview shows real dye colours on 3D models. There's an in-editor Recent Activity tracker that records every placement/removal per editing session. You can import shopping lists from housing.wowdb.com. Tab switching is up to ~300× faster.

New Features:

  • Housing Cockpit (v2.38, just released) - The House tab is ~20 widgets you can rearrange, resize, and toggle:
    • Customize - Tick widgets on/off, set widths (1/3, 2/3, full), reorder with arrows.
    • Design - edit in place on the cockpit. Drag the right edge to snap widths, drag the bottom to resize height, gear icon for fine-tuning.
  • Widgets include: a Decorator Profile hero card built around Blizzard's Housing Dashboard level ring; a sticky header strip that keeps level/XP/slots/lumber visible while scrolling; Multi-House with secure teleport buttons; Top $/Lumber for goblins; Favorites (right-click any Preview row to star); Trophy Shelf; Source/Expansion donut charts; Closest-to-Complete cards. Layouts save per character.
  • Dye preview on 3D models (v2.36) - Preview tab's 3D model now renders with the actual dye colours applied for variant entries (uses Blizzard's 12.0.5 dye API). Dyed variants in list rows show small dye-droplet swatches inline. House Editor variant cards show a palette icon + droplet-shaped swatches.
  • Recent Activity tracker (v2.32) - A new mode in the in-editor HDG tab (Shift+Z → Storage → HDG → Recent) records every placement and removal during your editing session, grouped into "edit sessions." Cells use Blizzard's plus/minus chat atlases - cyan + for items you placed, red - for items you removed. Click a cell to place another copy.
  • There's a paired Recent section in the standalone Styles tab so you can browse session history outside the editor.
  • housing.wowdb.com import (v2.35) - Paste any wowdb.com build's export string into HDG's Import dialog and it builds your shopping list - attribution banner, clickable build URL, per-item quantities all populate from the header. Vendor auto-resolution if the export doesn't specify one.

New filters & workflow

  • Favorites! Yes I finally added favourites to the Preview tab :)
  • Right-click any tab button (or the title-bar chest for house tab) to pin it as your default tab. The addon opens to that tab on first show per session. Right-click again to unpin.
  • House XP filter in Preview - shows only unowned items that grant house XP on first acquisition.
  • Account-wide "Known" in Recipes - shows recipes learned by any character on the account, not just the current one.
  • Dyeable filter in Preview - shows every decor that can accept dyes, whether or not you own a dyed copy.
  • Trophies pinned collection - uniques + Preyseeker effigies (the rare trophies from raids/dungeons/prey hunts).
  • Preview: "Only Unreleased" toggle for sneak-peek view of upcoming items (alongside the existing "Hide Unreleased").
  • Profession icon button on Recipes rows - click to open the profession window directly at that recipe.
  • Goblin Tab:
    • profession icons when "All" filter is set.
    • New "Queued Only" and "Hide Queued" filter checkboxes alongside the existing filter row. Mutually exclusive.
    • A coloured stripe on the left edge of any Goblin row whose item is in your active crafting queue
  • In-Game Shop virtual vendor in the By Vendor view - groups all Hearthsteel and real-money decor under their bundles (Lush Garden Decor Pack, Spring Blossom, Roofus Pack, Small Starter, Midnight Epic Edition).

Content & localization:

237 housing items pre-loaded for patch 12.0.5 (auto-unlocked on patch day). Three new Midnight vendors wired up across Zul'Aman and Silvermoon. 12 misc items (Paw Pal shop, Farstriders statues) and 48 Blizzard name corrections. 119 vendor cost mismatches resolved. Korean and Chinese clients get the missing Midnight expansion alias plus 20 other CJK display names.

Enjoy! And as always any feedback or suggestions on discord!
