It’s time to start learning how to lace spoked wheels….

I could cut the spokes off the rusted wheel sets, but I want to take a couple wheels apart first to practice with.

I’ve got a lot of good hubs, but really poor/rusted rims, and I want to build up a few widened sets for others.

A very healthy alternative to dead or dying shimano e6100/ep8 motors

Goboa is shaking the market up. Introducing some new motors at eurobike recently, including an e-cvt with 500% gear range along with gobs of torque and 4 digit power output.

It’s only taken me a year…..

But I finally figured out how to use this blasted program.

First, got my 3d printer. Then I bought all the PLA I could use. Next I printed trinkets and doo-dads for my kid and the house. Finally realized that I don’t want to clutter up the house with unnecessary plastic that I didn’t design, because I really want to prototype motorcycle parts.

So, after YouTubing, and lots of research, I dove into the two programs that I found had free licensing;tinkercad and freecad. It was obvious what program was easier to learn on.

Yes tinkercad has features that I could potentially explore to make my designs more detailed, but a part of me really wanted to explore parametric design, so the next obvious solution was freecad.

Within the last year, I was flip flopping between starting a sketch on freecad and frustrating myself with the ONE THING freecad needs to make a mod work, the fkn constraints!

Once I got those down, It finally clicked!

All I really need to do now is spend a half hour to an hour on the program each day, practicing the details and nuances needed to become more proficient with the program and I feel confident knowing I could design up all the parts I could ever need to satisfy my motorcycle builds!

Big shout out to the two YouTube channels that I religiously watched over the last week, mangojelly and cad cam lessons.

Once I got my mind focused on the specifics it finally clicked.

Took the cargowagon out for a ride with the two kids….

Have to say it was a treat. The smart system set to auto is absolutely amazing. The ability to ramp up power when needed is a treat. And the hill start assist feature is something I thought I’d never need.

For the last 4 years I have been riding a Muli with the shimano system, and while it’s intuitive, it’s what I know. The beauty of my Muli, is that it’s equipped with a di2 internal gear hub, meaning k never have to worry about starting off on a lower gear from stop or on a hill. The cargowagon doesn’t have that.

Knowing that we JUST got the cargowagon, I have no intention of modifying the drivetrain yet, but I have been running the numbers on swapping out the 10 speed cassette with an internal gear hub, mainly the rohloff or the 3x3, as they integrate with the Bosch controller seamlessly.

This bike is truly a good alternative to the tern GSD, but lacks all of the ecosystem surrounding the tern bikes. I truly hope they continue to produce it, as I have hear rumblings that cannondale (along with other big brands) may discontinue their cargo bikes.

School teachers, have you ever taught one of your own children?

My wife is a grade school teacher, first and second grade, and we have a kindergartener that is moving to the first grade for the school year.

Now her school is large enough that there are multi first grade classes, so she won’t have to worry about teaching our 6 year old.

However we got to chatting, and was wondering what it would be like to teach your own child?

Seeing them every day, with minimal breaks in-between the day, recess and lunch. Potentially having them call you by your preferred respected title ie. ms./mrs. instead of mom/dad. The PTA meetings would be comical!

We ran a few scenarios and giggled at the possibilities but came to realize that there are areas where that is a definite possibility.

Cargowagon+clubhouse+yepp+guppy.jr

  1. bike without clubhouse, but with the yepp and the guppyjr
  2. clubhouse box
  3. loose fit install, installed the side rails first then added the cross bars after
  4. M6x35mm Allen hardware with one large and one small washer fastened with a nylock nut
  5. side profile of everything installed including the new pizza rack out front
  6. closer photo of the system installed
  7. my messy lock up, 6 motorcycles, snow tires my Muli, and a shelf of stuff

Overall, the installation was smooth and easy. Yes the tern clubhouse is wider, but that’s been documented many a time before.

What I was worried about is the side edge profile of the base where the clubhouse meets the rack, and if the sides are rounded, thankfully they are. This allows any clamp style mount to be secured properly. The guppy jr and the yepp fit between the cross bars nicely. The only thing I need to do now is figure out another foot rest option for my 6 year old as I suspect with the way the rests are currently placed, his knees will hit the front cross bar.

Added the seats!

A couple rack mounted seats attached to the cargowagon.

Next is a tern clubhouse v3 and the cannondale front basket. Then this sled should be ready for summer fun!

And it’s here!

The shop I purchased it from had the light mount missing during initial assembly, so I requested them to have it brought in prior to picking it up.

Now that I have it, I’ll install it, then I’ll do a bike fit for my wife and start accessorizing.
