Are flying capital ships basically a non-starter for a solo player?

I've won and lost the game off and on since 2008. Mostly just stick to myself. I've flown nearly every sub-cap there is and I'd like to maybe try and purchase a carrier but it seems somewhat pointless without the support of a decent corp. What are your thoughts?

My greatest cheese yet!

Not really a cheese, so much as playing to the only strength I had, which was mobility and Tyrion's badass melee ability. Circled and hid in the forests for the first half of the battle, picking off units of opportunity. Once Tyrion and Caradryan were surrounded, I spammed Sunfang and pitted my wizard against theirs. Once theirs fled, the morale tanks (as is the way with rats) and the rest is history. Very hard mode; computer predicted decisive defeat.

TL;DR Don't trust autoresolve
