Double Standards
In this episode, Penny and Amy hold down Sheldon and assault him against his will with unwanted kisses. Peoples response: "hahahaha...Penny's so silly, what a hoot." But can you imagine if the roles were reversed? It doesn't bother me that much, but I just laugh sometimes at the glaring double standards in the world. Especially with Penny's character itself. She would go ballistic if Sheldon did that to her, or even if Leonard did it. Many other instances this happens. For example earlier in the season Penny visits Leonard at his lab for the first time to learn more about his work. She eventually locks the door of his lab and demands he remove his clothes and in his full beta mode response he basically says 'yes ma'am'. If the roles were reversed, for example Leonard at Penny's place of work, or even her apartment for that matter, even at this stage in the relationship, and Leonard closes her door and says 'take your clothes off right now', she would roll her eyes and smirkingly say "...goodbye, Leonard". Can you imagine if Leonard said "..goodbye Penny" at his Lab? She would totally be offended and be so mad at him. This also happens when she frenches Leonard in front her dad to make her dad think they were still dating. Imagine if Leonard pulled that on Penny in front of his mom or something. For anyone that says "it's not the same thing", that's exactly the sentiment that keeps these weird double standards going, in my opinion. What are your thoughts?
