Fantasy book recs

I finished my rereads on both Licanius and Hierarchy, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Islington's work. Does anyone have any recommendations for similar styles of writing that have the same fantasy magic system aspect and compelling characters? I'm thinking about reading Mistborn and the Kingkiller Chronicles, but I wanted to see if there were better options first.

Nashrel Eilinar

Does anyone know what happened to Elder Eilinar? Taeris said he was dead at the end of The Shadow of What was Lost, and he wasn't in book 2, but he suddenly came back in book 3. Did I miss something?

Questions/Theories on SoTF

I just finished my second read of both WotM and SoTF and I had a few questions plus theories I wanted to share.

  1. What are your thoughts on O-Caeror lying about his copies dying to Vis? It sucks because I actually really liked his character, and by the end of my first read I figured L-Caeror was the misled one, but it all clicked when I remembered O-Caeror saying he felt his other two copies die.
  2. Speaking of Caeror, since Ka is seemingly not with the Concurrence, do we think Veridius and Caeror were actually teaming with Concurrence against Ka? It doesn’t make complete sense to me since I don’t see the benefit to either of them if Concurrence wins and destroys the world. But I’m also unsure of how they could translate the Ruins that far off from their intended meaning.
  3. This brings me to Yusef, a character I’m really unsure of. I want to think that R-Caeror was a good person before the Labyrinth, and that Yusef actually manipulated him into thinking Ka was a villain and with the Concurrence (which then makes my idea about their mistranslation false and makes more sense to me). Another idea about Yusef was that he is actually O-Ostius. I saw this on another thread and it actually makes a lot of sense to me, since Ostius’s character seems to have an underlying plan.
  4. Ka’s iiunctus explains that the Concurrence is a network of iiuncti who seem to me to be held in Obiteum. I’ve seen theories on whether it is Ka doing the enslaving or being enslaved in Obiteum, and I think I side with the latter just because it connects with the “Obiteum is lost” idea. But I wanted to hear others thoughts.
  5. L-Caeror says Vis made a mistake in another world. I honestly think it’s R-Vis rising the iiuncti in the Necropolis, but most people think it’s O-Vis killing Ka. I do believe that’s what Islington what’s us to believe, and seeing the amount of plot twists unraveling, I find it hard to believe the most obvious answer is the right one. I also think L-Caeror is working for Ka, as he initially tries to kill Vis just as Ka wanted to in Res, but since Ka is no longer synchronous, L-Caeror now wants to help him.
  6. What do we think of the torc L-Caeror was trying to give L-Vis? I first thought it was connected to the scarab Ostius gave R-Vis, but I’d like to hear other thoughts on this.
  7. What about the sarcophagus in Qabr? It is obviously an important person, but I’m lacking in ideas there. My initial thoughts were that it might be O-Ostius/Yusef (if my theory that they are the same person is correct).
  8. I do think that the mutalis is connected through all three worlds and we just haven’t seen them in Luceum and Res. My idea is that it is pre-Cataclysm (and by that I mean all the Cataclysms). Estevan’s weapon seems to be similar to the crock and flail that Vis got in Obiteum, but seeing as Ostius cannot jump to Obiteum because his copy there is dead, there might be a similar place in Res where he got his weapon. I’d love to hear some thoughts on the weapon’s origin.
  9. Why do we think Lanistia is being urged to kill R-Vis? She’s probably somehow connected to the iiuncti at the Labyrinth, but I want to hear some deeper theories.

Excited to hear theories on these!
