Guided By Dad…

First post here… It’s also the anniversary of my father’s birth (sometimes known as a “birthday”)… Although he passed away in 2018, his wonderful life still teaches me lessons. Why am I posting this here? Well… well into his 70s, my dad knew that I liked Guided By Voices (I didn’t know he knew that… I think he saw me post my GBV Fillmore or Warfield show posters I created…) Anyway… when I went over to my folks house one weekend to visit, he gave me this disk. Apparently, he researched the band and then went on Limewire and illegally downloaded a bunch of GBV songs and made me a mix tape…. Lol. Just one of the many, many reasons why I love and miss him. Happy Birthday, Dad… Listening to GBV (and some Greek music) in tribute to you, today!

Good Riddance

Another Bootlicking Serial-Liar leaves the Trump Administration to spend more time reflecting on the gaping void left by her vacated soul. Good riddance, Karoline Leavitt. Your evil work is done. Here’s a portrait of Karoline (almost photo realistic, right??!) I created a few years ago…

New Arsenal Champions art piece…

I’ve worked on this piece over the last few weeks of last season… and tried to find a way to get in touch with the club (to no avail)… I’d love for this to be a MatchDay program or a giveaway poster to the fans… or find some way to work with the club… in any case, it was a labor of love. (If anyone knows anyone at the Club to show this to, I’d be very appreciative)… In the meantime, I wanted to share… enjoy!

My Ballad Of Jane Doe art…

I created this because I’m an artist and my daughter LOVES this play… and she’s pretty shy, but would sing the Ballad of Jane Doe (and knock it out of the park) on the way to school, or in her room… We saw the play together in San Francisco and loved it. I sent this to one of the creators, but while complimentary, he didn’t seem interested in collaborating… Oh well.

HARVEY MILK portrait

Hello. First post here. I created this portrait of Harvey Milk from over 120 figures in LGBTQ+ history.
I was originally asked back in 2017 to create some artwork to promote a dedication of an art piece in the Castro in San Francisco…
I had just started doing what I call typographic portraits. Since I wasn’t steeped in the history, it took a long time until I felt I had an adequate list to even come close to representation.
I hope it would do… so I started creating the piece. Eventually I think I got there. It was made into a poster to promote the event (Harvey’s Halo).

The finished piece, Hope Will Never Be Silent, was made into a commemorative poster (and later a 15-color limited-edition print) to honor Harvey Milk on the 40th Anniversary of his historic 1977 election as California’s first openly gay elected official this November 8. That date also marks the 20th Anniversary of San Francisco’s first unfurling of Gilbert Baker’s Giant Rainbow Flag above Harvey Milk Plaza.

Since I’ve only recently started to become active on Reddit, I thought this would be a good place to show the work. Cheers!

Bob Dylan Typographic Portrait: “Wordsmith”

Just wanted to share this piece I created. This is a 1/1 hand-colored version on wood of the one you might have seen (if you’ve been to the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, OK… they sold half of the 2-color screenprints there, and created wall art based on it.) The portrait is made up of over 100 of Bob’s greatest songs… and I even messed up and put a song in there twice… lol.

My Stephen Sondheim Portrait in Song

A while back I got a very kind email from Liz Calloway, asking if I would be interested in creating a typographic portrait of Stephen Sondheim. My sister was a huge Sondheim fan, and the fact that Liz would take the time to reach out, made it seem like a slam dunk. It took a while to finish, but finally got there. (I originally did a version of a much younger Sondheim, but after talking it through with Liz and my sister they thought it best to go with the age we ended up on. The portrait is made up of all his major Broadway works, and over 110 of his greatest songs. The border was created using accolades bestowed on The Bard of Broadway. This was turned into an 18" x 24" 5-color, limited-edition screenprint.

I’ve only recently been using Reddit, so I thought it was something that you’d all appreciate.

EARLY Bruce Timm art, Pt. 2

Cover for THE WIZARD OF OZ, Granada Hills High School, 1978. Bruce played the Cowardly Lion in the actual play. My sister played a Munchkin.

EARLY Bruce Timm art

Hi! I went to the same high school as Bruce back in the day. (Granada Hills High School in the Los Angeles area). I was a grade lower. We both took the same teacher in one art class… different periods. On the last day of school I was hanging out in the class with another friend who took the class and the teacher. She was complaining about having to dump all the students’ art because so many just left them in the filing drawers… and so we all started looking through them. I asked her if I could keep some of the pieces… grabbed about 4-5 of one particular student’s work. Bruce Timm. I knew of his work because he was in Choir with my sister, Christina. Bruce had done the cover program for “Wizard Of Oz” (I’ll show that in another post). I was a fan, even then. I put these all in a folder when I got home… they ended up in a box… and I forgot all about them. Ironically, we both did work in the comics industry (He became huge… I, lol, did one variant Captain America cover). A while ago I was cleaning out stuff in my garage when I found them. I’m putting them up for sale in a HA auction as a couple of lots… but thought I would share the work with you all here…) Here’s the first piece… I get the feeling that this might actually be some bizarro world self-portrait, as Bruce had long(ish) blonde hair… but probably not. ha ha… I’ll try not to be so wordy in future posts… just thought they needed context. More to come.

Hello Experts! I’m going to have to let this one go… I’ve had it in my garage for five years without it being used…

Bianchi Nyala… (obviously needs a bit of work… including new tires.)
What would a fair price for this be? (I’m going to sell it for a bit less than it’s worth.)

Thank you for any help on this. (Also: Snarky replies acceptable… the funnier the better)
