Cool Planet the compilation

In Apple Music, why is Cool Planet listed as a compilation, not an album?

The suitcases are listed as albums, not compilations.

Guided By Dad…

First post here… It’s also the anniversary of my father’s birth (sometimes known as a “birthday”)… Although he passed away in 2018, his wonderful life still teaches me lessons. Why am I posting this here? Well… well into his 70s, my dad knew that I liked Guided By Voices (I didn’t know he knew that… I think he saw me post my GBV Fillmore or Warfield show posters I created…) Anyway… when I went over to my folks house one weekend to visit, he gave me this disk. Apparently, he researched the band and then went on Limewire and illegally downloaded a bunch of GBV songs and made me a mix tape…. Lol. Just one of the many, many reasons why I love and miss him. Happy Birthday, Dad… Listening to GBV (and some Greek music) in tribute to you, today!

Top 100 Mid-Period Lineup (97-04) Songs

As voted on by a few hundred people in the FB group. We included all 144 songs, and did an elimination style tournament over 2 months.

The answer to every subsequent post on this thread that says why is my favorite song so low, or why is that stupid song so high is because the crowd said so. The wisdom of the crowds. The instructions in each poll were "choose your best/favorite/most beloved, you decide". This list was the outcome. Cheers.

What are your favorite bob vocal performances?

As an singer, that also absolutely loves guided by voices, I was wondering what some of your favorite Robert Pollard vocal performances are.

Fly Into Ashes

Why isn’t this classic and the other Hold on Hope EP material available to stream? All the other TVT stuff appears to be available.

What is the bee thousand or alien lanes of bob’s solo albums?

I wanted to get into bob’s solo stuff and I know I could do it chronologically but I’d like to start with just an iconic listen. Does he have an album that’s considered to be his best that any of you would recommend?

It will not lose its appeal over years

Thanks to whoever posted this shirt the other day. Immediate buy for me. I discovered GBV via this album at college in the late 90s. Yes I’m having a midlife crisis.

I've always hated The Strokes, but this new album is amazing. Maybe Bob really saw something in them after all...

Anyone listened? What you thinking?

Did I read this? Or did I come up with this?

Hello everyone! I had the exquisite luck of living in Columbus Ohio from 1989 to 1996.

A great chunk of the GBV classic era.

Saw them many times, pre and post notoriety.

Highlights:

Was going thru the crates at Used Kids Annex & overheard a conversation between Mike Rep & Bob (I recall him talking about meeting Pavement).

GBV & Matador labelmates Come at Sudsy Malone’s in Cinci.
(Was either late 95 or early 96… it doesn’t seem to be on the live database)
Was watching Come & happened to turn & see Bob and Kim Deal standing directly behind me.

When the Flaming Lips played Stache’s in ‘95, they opened with “Motor Away”, because Bob was in attendance.
He got up on stage to sing with them, but he was so wasted that he didn’t seem to remember the words (oh well… it’s the thought that counts).

Brings me to my question:

I have described GBV as having a one-man McCartney/Lennon (Bob) and a Harrison (Tobe).

One writes the GREAT majority of the material, but the other gets a few in there as well (and they’re always unique to their style).

Did I read this somewhere? Or did I come up with this?

Any Torontonians looking at ordering the new Rip or Cash Rivers records? We should do a combined order so shipping doesn't skin us alive

Thoughts?

Facing a dilemma (but not really)

I just purchased this gorgeous LP for a very reasonable price. My dilemma? It’s still sealed.

Do I break the seal to listen what arguably might be some of classic GBV’s finest live moments? Or keep it sealed in my collection.

What would you do?

(Also, check out my awesome GBV vinyl find!)

Edit: just to say my lord look at that setlist 😭

Edit/Update: obviously I opened it and it is amazing, I was always going to open it because records are indeed meant to be heard and shared
