Prescription sunglasses

So I am very likely going to be at the south pole for summer 2026/2027. I have seem quite a few posts here regarding sunglasses but not really any recommendations on where to get them.

I currently only have one pair of prescription sunglasses with polarized lenses from Zenni but they have a full metal frame which I understand may not be the most comfortable with the cold. Also Zenni says they block 100% UV but no ratings, Also they don't indicate how much light they allow through.

I am looking to purchase 2 pairs of glasses with plastic frames so I have a primary and spare without using insurance as I already used my coverage for regular glasses this year.

I don't want to get anything that uses inserts to convert regular sunglasses to prescription, my my prescription is minor.

I am located in the USA, I have looked into some places online in NZ and they seems to actually give UV400 ratings and the amount of light they transmit. However the price after conversion is basically the same as from Zenni, I do want them to be polarized too.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to get the glasses and with what specs.
Also any experience with purchasing in NZ before arrival?

SMS sim low cost

Hi All, I am looking for a sim or esim with SMS recieve capabilities for ~10-20 messages a month. I will be leaving the country for a bit and need a reliable method to get 2FA codes from services that don't support TOTP or FIDO, VOIP number's wont work.

The phone will be stationary and syncing the sms messages to a service I can view from wherever I am, I do currently have a helium mobile plan I use as my primary phone which might just be what I end up using for this but I was wondering any other options. I do not need or care about data or voice on the sim as the phone will have wifi access at all times.

Hi All, I recent got my offer to do the summer at the pole, still need to PQ and EBI.

I found one post that is 4 years old regarding vegans at the pole and overwintering(I may be able to extend).

I was wondering if anyone has some insight on the current situation as a lot can change in 4 years.

Also recommendations on supplements to bring and how to get them to the pole, shipping timelines and costs.

I know the pole also has an awesome hydroponics greenhouse that is volunteer run and I would love to take part in that as well.

I will definitely plan to meet the food service supervisor as soon as I can.

Thank you!
