Day 4 post-op and I’m suspicious because… why do I feel GOOD?? 😭

I got my tonsillectomy on August 13 and I’m on day 4 post-op. Today has easily been my best day so far, which is somehow making me more nervous instead of relieved lol.

I woke up, took my pain pill, and was able to literally CHUG water with barely any pain. I also have basically no ear or throat pain today. My biggest issue right now is honestly constipation from the opioids, so I just took Dulcolax and I’m hoping that finally gets things moving 😭

BUT I’m suspicious. 😂 My scabs definitely couldn’t have fully fallen off yet, right?? I keep hearing that tonsillectomy recovery is super deceiving and you can have one amazing day and then wake up the next day feeling like you’re swallowing razor blades.

I’ve also seen people on TikTok saying their scabs didn’t start coming off until days 6–7, so now I’m sitting here
thinking this is the calm before the storm. 😭

Did anyone else feel surprisingly good around day 4 and then get worse when the scabs started coming off? Or is there a chance I’m actually just having an easier recovery than expected? What days were the worst for you?

Tonsillectomy TOMORROW 😭

Surgery is officially tomorrow and now that I’m less than 24 hours away, the nerves are HITTING 😭 I’ve prepared as much as humanly possible, but I would love to have some recovery buddies, especially anyone getting theirs out around the same time. We can compare days, complain together, celebrate when the scabs finally disappear, and keep each other sane 😂

I’m also trying to figure out what to ask my surgeon about tomorrow before I’m too out of it to remember anything. I was thinking of asking about:

- Liquid hydrocodone instead of pills, since swallowing pills sounds absolutely horrible after surgery
- Zofran in case the anesthesia or pain medication makes me nauseous
- Whether a steroid is something he recommends for swelling/pain during recovery
- Whether lidocaine spray is actually safe/helpful after a tonsillectomy or if it burns/irritates the surgical sites

For anyone who has already gone through an adult tonsillectomy: what did your doctor prescribe, and what ended up helping you the most? Anything you wish you had specifically asked for BEFORE surgery?

Also, how would you word all of this to the surgeon without sounding like you’re walking in with a pharmacy shopping list? 😂 I basically want to say, “I’m really nervous about staying ahead of the pain and nausea, can we go over what you’re prescribing for home and what the backup plan is if the pain, swelling, or nausea gets bad?”

Tomorrow starts Day 0 😭 Wish me luck. Anyone else starting their tonsillectomy journey this week? Let’s make a little recovery squad

Join the Tonsillectomy group chat for everyone to help each other in recovery

Anyone else getting a tonsillectomy around August 13th? 😭

I thought it could be really helpful (and honestly kind of fun) to make a small recovery group for people getting their tonsils out around the same time! We can go through the recovery together, compare what each day is like, share foods and things that are helping, keep each other company, complain when it sucks 😂 and maybe even make some new friends along the way.

I’m thinking anyone having surgery around August 10–16 could join so we’re all at roughly the same stage of recovery.

I also want this to be a genuinely supportive and judgment-free group. Please be kind to everyone — anyone being rude, disrespectful, or making other people uncomfortable will be removed.

One important rule: this group is for support and sharing our own experiences, NOT medical advice or diagnosis. If someone is bleeding significantly, having trouble breathing, can’t stay hydrated, or has another urgent concern, please contact your surgeon or seek medical care rather than waiting for advice from the group.

For privacy, I don’t think we should have everyone giving their phone numbers to strangers on Reddit. Would you guys prefer a Discord server or another private group where we can use usernames and keep our phone
numbers/personal information private?

Comment or DM me if you’d be interested! :)

Why is the food around Fowler/USF so consistently bad?

I’ve been wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if I’ve just had terrible luck.

Why does so much of the food around the Fowler/USF area seem so much worse than the same chains in other parts of Tampa? Is it because they hire mostly students? Is it because they’re so busy all the time that they don’t have time to make the food properly?

I’ve had multiple places serve food that’s absolutely drenched in grease, soggy, overcooked to the point it’s hard to chew, or just tastes off. It’s happened enough times that I don’t think it’s just a one-time bad experience anymore.

The biggest offenders for me have been Wingstop, Fresh Kitchen, Hungry Howies, McDonalds and Popeyes, just to name a few. Meanwhile, Starbucks, Dunkin, and Chick Fil A seem to be more consistent. I can still tell a difference compared to locations elsewhere, but it’s nowhere near as drastic.
What’s weird is that if I drive like 20 minutes away and go to the exact same chain, the food is usually much fresher and actually tastes good.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a reason so many restaurants around USF seem to struggle with quality? Or have I just been incredibly unlucky?

Has anyone ever experienced this?

About 3 weeks ago I got the common cold with congestion, chills, fever, and a severe sore throat. At first I thought it would go away on its own, but the sore throat kept getting worse and wouldn’t improve, so I finally went to urgent care. They looked at my tonsils and said they were VERY inflamed and almost touching. They put me on amoxicillin and after around 9 days I felt almost completely normal again for about a week.

Then a few days later my throat slowly started getting irritated again, mostly in the mornings when I wake up. I’ve also been waking up super dry with coughing/choking fits at night. I sleep with a fan and cold AC, but I’ve done that for years and never had this issue before. Now every morning my throat feels raw and irritated and I keep coughing throughout the day.

Tonight my AC was really cold so I felt a little chilly inside, but when I went out driving it got weird. I was FREEZING during the whole 20 minute drive to Walgreens and had to blast the heat on max in my car the entire time. I wasn’t sweating or anything, but I got that tingly weak feeling you get right before getting sick again. My throat also started feeling more irritated. Now I’m sucking on a Cepacol lozenge trying to calm it down.

No major fever right now but I’m paranoid because it feels similar to when I first started getting sick. Has anyone had this happen after tonsillitis/strep/antibiotics? Could this just be lingering irritation/post nasal drip/dry air or does this sound like the infection is coming back?
