Magician is the 1 of the Rider Waite deck. Its creators, a society of magicians, feel that the number 1 is male, and is active on the physical plane (and only receptive on the nonphysical planes). So as a man it's up to him to take the initiative in the real world.

Hierophant is the pope so we expect it to commit to traditional respectable things.

Ten of Cups is all about happily-ever-after family relationship, just look at the picture here.
