Walkthrough guides

Anyone else miss the days where walkthough guides were published for just about every game? I get there’s the internet, go find a video, etc. just kind of miss thumbing through a book and being able to just book mark it in relation to my progress of the game.

Taxidermy/Wall Mounted Trophies Needs an Update

Currently on my second solo run. First solo run I ran all over Cascade killing every pest, peccary, and exor in sight to craft the trophies of my hunts. Decided to masochistically do it again for my current run, but to control spawns, I’m keeping from advancing to the next sector until I am either close to, or have eliminated the necessary amount.

My observation is I think the number required needs to be reduced by half, if not at least by 25%. I get it’s not meant to be easily done that it’s irrelevant, but at the same time, doesn’t need to be a huge time sink either. Needs to be a happy median where it’s a good amount to feel like an accomplishment.

1000 pests, 500 peccaries, etc. just too much. Pests, plain, electro, and volatile are abundant, snow, very limited. Peccaries are very limited as well since it’s part of a random spawn pool. Exor monks for some reason, the counter won’t start until labs because the 3rd entry is there, while the normal Exors, the green ones where the arms come from, the counter starts, but players won’t encounter one until labs, I’m not sure if this was intended, or it was boo boo on dev’s part. The two needs to be switched as I encounter monks way sooner than the Exors, again both are limited due to spawn pool, especially for Exors since there’s only like, 6 through the entire game along with whatever luck of the draw you get in office sector.

I like the idea of the hunting trophies, but it needs refining. Number amount needs to be decreased to reflect spawn availability, and I’m speaking from playing apocalyptic with respawn being every night, and also it needs to be fixed to follow player progression.

What are your thoughts fellow scientists? Let me know in the chat 😁🤣

Rat in Office Sector near Trams Running off Before I’m Anywhere Near LoS

On my current playthrough, I’m stationed in the security office on level 2 of the office sector. I was hoping to be farming the rat near the trams for its suit and pack like I always did, but for some reason when I round the corner heading towards the main stairs to the trams, I see the rat take off running before I even make it past the balcony to the stairs from the second level?! Baffled as to how/why I’m being detected from such a far distance AND elevation. I am playing on apocalyptic, and I do understand that there’s a smaller window before I am detected, but my stealth is at least 15, and again, I’m on the second level, no where near the edge of the balcony, and he just takes off running. Any ideas fellow scientists? Thanks in advance.

Recent Observations

Has anyone else come to the conclusion that carbuncles are basically alien hairballs or fecal matter? During my hunt for 500 pecarries, I’ve noticed some that would stop in mid path, do a little hop, and then a carbuncle pops out. This leads me to believe that carbuncles are “hairballs” as they seem to stick to walls and the floor. Perhaps they are the “facehugger/anklebiter” form of a pest?

On another note, anyone else notice that Marion is rocking a chieftain’s bag? Makes me think he’s more than he leads on to be.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments chat 😁🤣

The Coral Reef

Entered Cascade on Sept. 6, 1993. On Jan. 8, 1995, I finished my collection of wall mounted trophies, and taxidermy pests. This is the result of going native, I present The Coral Reef.

Revamp Super Stove 4K

Feel like the super stove 4K needs a revamp to a 2 x 2 configuration and keeping it the same width as the portable stove. As it is right now, sure it looks cooler, but it’s got a very awkward sized foot print. I think making it look more like an industrial stove with the same width of a portable stove would give better aesthetics to the base. Nice and square, can put two side by side. It’d be perfect for places like the little cubicle spots in the office space of the aquarium in labs. Gives the players a feel of having their own industrial stove set up.

Hard Light Sledge is the GOAT

On second play through, solo. If you haven’t tried the hard light sledge, you should. Thing is a beast, anything human sized or smaller, is a one shot from stealth (given skills and perks are high enough). Working my way through the praetorium, and come upon a machine gun nest. Decided to test the shield ability, and I concur that it will allow you to soak up those rounds unscathed. This thing is just ridiculously good. Love it.

Personal New Discovery

Currently on second play through, loving every minute of it. I chose the aquarium in labs as my home base of operations. I recently discovered I have one of those gigantic water tanks that can be used to drink/wash from. What I didn’t know was that it’s REFILLABLE! Haven’t tried emptying it and filling it with tainted water or antejuice, but now I’m loving my base choice even more now that I have this giant water tank. Just wanted to share 😁

Skill Leveling Tips and Tricks

This is for the budding new interns and scientists returning from a long sabbatical. The following is a look into how I “power leveled” some of the skills that would be otherwise slow to develop through regular progressive game play, I have no doubt there are those out there who already have shared these tips and tricks in other posts, i just wanted to have it all boxed into one post for those who wish to satisfy their curiosity. Again this is for those skills that would be lacking should a scientist merely played through without time invested in skilling up, hope you enjoy.

  1. THROWING: Make a throwing net, stare at the ground and just throw the next into the ground and pick it back up, rinse repeat. When you hit level 5, you automatically pick up what you threw (assuming it wasn’t destroyed, this also goes projectiles such as grinder disks, bolts, etc.), so from level 5 on all you have to do is stare at the floor and spam the throw button while you watch YouTube videos.

  2. STEALTH: this one I did in 2 stages. Stage one you can take all the way, just will require some time, upside is you can go afk. After unlocking the Far Garden portal, there’s two Exors. First one has its back turned shooting at the passing “birds”. If you crouch and sneak up just close enough to where you start seeing the XP roll, you can just walk away, make a sandwich, etc. The Exor will never turn around. Second phase is after crafting a full set of crystalline armor, there’s a second Exor that patrols in a very simple circle. While crouched, just following it around and around until you’re bored. Stealth mechanics dictate that scientists gain significantly more XP for stealthing an enemy in motion, rather than a stationary one. I’d say I gained level 15 within maybe 15-20 minutes, following it around. Just for clarification, I did all my stealth leveling in Far Garden.

  3. FORTITUDE:When able to, craft a shield and a chopinator. Plug the chopinator in and with your shield up, just let the chopinator hit you until you’re out of stamina, or until your shield breaks, whichever comes first. Better shields will allow you to do this for a longer period of time before the shield breaks, but will cost more to fix. A plastic tray shield will suffice.

These 3 skills I feel, unless given some time and effort, will not get very far by just regular gameplay. If playing with friends then, of course, only focus on skills that benefit your role in the group. Hope this was helpful, and good luck to new and returning scientists. Godspeed.
