What is Gloom of Kilforth?

It is a zero to hero fantasy adventure game in a gothic setting. On the open world map of location cards you will be going around fighting demons, influencing strangers, completing quests and building up to fight one of the Ancient Evil's that are slowly turning the world into gloom. Each round youll take 4+ actions moving to new locations and then getting into combat, trying to pass skill tests on strangers/locations/quests or resting to get your health back. The tests generally involve rolling dice and getting successes on 5+ (modifiable), you can also burn tokens/cards for additional successes.

 At the start of each round you only get as many actions as you have health points - but by completing your saga quests you will get more health points and more actions. So at the start you may barely be rolling 3 dice/4 actions and the end something like 12 dice and  7/8 actions a turn. To complete the saga quests you will be trying to collect rumours or assets that match certain keywords. Some of these are more likely to appear in certain location types (by colour - so red enemy keyword more likely in mountains for example).

You will also be picking up rumours to your hand, which you can sell or go to the location on the card and discover that rumour to add the Ally/Item/Spell/Title to your tableau.

At the end of each round a location will flip to gloom which is your timer as if the whole world goes to gloom you lose. Also certain locations associated with the Ancient Evil you picked may buff them in the final battle if not removed.

The physical game is no longer in print I believe but you can probably find it on the secondary market for cheap.

So you can find the digital version here https://mltdwn21.itch.io/gloom-of-kilforth-digital , or on the itch.io app which will automatically update it for you. There have been a few bugs here and there as you might expect but to his credit they have been fixed super fast.

For new players

 So it is not an easy game but the following may help you get to grips with it:

- Start one of the Martial classes and dont worry much about spells

- Under game modifiers add Long Rest, Partial Successes and Partial Successes: Player rolls only. This means that for the player 2x 4s are considered a success on dice rolls

- Even if you arent focusing on fight stat you probably want to invest some in it for the final boss. (this changes for later games in series)

- You generally want to focus on getting the keywords and 5x gold to do your regale action to level up ASAP.
