National Treasure and British Historian, Sir David Attenborough celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this year on the 8th May. He was surrounded by family as they all sung happy birthday and congratulated him on his achievements.
Okay Besties, this is a long one so buckle in…
For context, we need to go back to September 2020.
I, (17F at the time) met a girl (we’ll call her Sarah, 17F at the time) in our first year of college. We clicked insanely quick and we were inseparable. We hung out all the time, we met each other’s family. This girl was my sister. There wasn’t a moment we weren’t together.
We had a few issues with outside friends but that’s not apart of this issue so we won’t go into that.
Also in September 2020 I started dating my partner, Sam (24M).
Sarah had invited me to a party at her then boyfriend, now fiancée’s (we’ll call him Frank) house a long way from my home, so I had to travel to a different unknown area. I went and met Frank for the first time and he had his best mate there. (We’ll call him Benny) we were all drinking pretty heavily, playing games, Truth or Dare, that type of shit. Then Sarah and Frank started making out. Benny and I sat there awkwardly but then Benny pulled me close and kissed me. I, being young and drunk, kissed back. The kiss lasted no more than 10 seconds but the damage was already done.
I left straight away, getting an uber back home. I immediately told Sam what had happened and although he was a little hurt, he said that we were both in a new relationship after coming out of our “hoe” stages.
The next time we were in college, Sarah was ignoring me. She didn’t even look my way. I tried asking why she was upset but she just scoffed, walking away. Eventually she did tell me why; Benny had told Sarah and Frank that I was leading him on and kissed him even though I was in a relationship. I tried to set the record straight but Sarah wasn’t sure who to trust.
A few weeks after, Sam got a message from an unknown number. The message read:
“I just thought you should know, your girlfriend is a cheater and you should leave her before she cheats again.”
When Sam showed me the messages I instantly knew it had to do with Sarah or Frank. I confronted her the next day and she swore blind that she never gave Frank his number. After that, mine and Sarah’s friendship was rocky.
Skip 6 months later, Sarah and I are still friends but we weren’t hanging out that much. I found her in the bathroom crying and when I asked what was wrong, she told me that she was pregnant. She showed me the positive pregnancy test and we just sat in the bathroom crying together. She was scared (obviously she was 17). I told her that I would be there for her with whatever she decided. And if she needed someone, I would be there.
Later that evening, I was then spammed with messages all from Frank, threatening me saying that I was trying to manipulate Sarah into getting an abortion. Of course this was not true but Frank had gotten into Sarah’s head enough to make her doubt me.
I told her that I was not going to make her choose between me and her baby daddy so I ended our friendship.
I never spoke to her for a whole year before she called me randomly one day.
She was crying, saying that she had finally had enough and that she needed to get her and her son away from Frank. I told her that I would be here if she needed a place to stay.
I initially thought that she would never get the courage to leave him so when she turned up at my door with her son, I was shocked to say the least. But of course, I kept my word, I invited them in, set them up in the guest room and they stayed with us for about 4 weeks. Sarah had disappeared one night leaving me and Sam to look after her son, Luke.
She never got back until 4 in the morning and Luke had been so inconsolable since he barely knew me and Sam. When she returned, she was crying again. I asked if she had been to see Frank and she nodded.
She then told me that she had to go back. When I asked why, she just snapped at me. Told me that I had no business asking. That her son deserves to be with his father. I didn’t argue but told her that Luke was finally asleep so she wouldn’t be able to leave right now. She stayed the night but by the next morning she and Luke was gone.
The next time I heard from Sarah was when she posted on her Facebook page wishing Frank a happy Father’s Day. It read:
We love you daddy.
Luke and bump.
Sarah was pregnant again. That’s why she returned to Frank. I don’t know what Frank had said to her but it couldn’t have been good for her to snap at me and just leave knowing what she was going back too.
In April 2024, I found out I was pregnant and when I posted the announcement she sent me a long message saying how sorry she was for how it all went down between us. I ignored that message.
It’s not May 2026 and I had a phone call from her. She’s pregnant again. And now she wants to make amends so our kids can be friends and she wants her kids to know their “auntie”. I told her that there was nothing to fix because it’s not damaged, it’s destroyed.
