If you’re a fan of The Headmistress or Magdalene Nox, this is for you. It’s an AU for The Headmistress, so from Sam’s point of view. Magdalene did not save Dragons, but she does turn up at the new school Sam is teaching at.

Magdalene Nox is my second favorite fictional character (the first is Lee Winter’s Requiem/Natalya), and she could step on me in her Louboutin’s and I’d thank her.

Milena McKay has had a Patreon for several years now. Membership at the lowest level is free. I pay $7 a month for my tier and get access to everything I want. She posts regularly, and you’ll see stories that will never get printed. Covers before they’re released. Chapter by chapter drops or novels, although it’s the first draft of them not the final version. You’ll also get live question and answer sessions, and find out the Easter eggs dropped in the novel.

It is a great way to support an author who is an independent author, and help them keep writing. There are quite a few authors on Patreon including Rawnie Sabor, Anna Burke, Hayley Cass, and Rachel Spangler.

The Second Draft by Carrie Byrd

Wow! I read it in two days and only put it down reluctantly when I had appointments or important things to do. I should have known after seeing the positive words Lee Winter wrote after finishing it.

The Second Draft is only the second book by Carrie Byrd whose first book was the smash hit Loser of the Year which I also enjoyed. But there’s something about this book that’s special. I did not come out late in life like the main characters in the story Anne turns 60 in the book, and it’s written from her point of view. But I did come out in my mid twenties despite knowing much sooner that I only liked girls. It did make so many parts relatable. Plus the writing is so beautiful I wanted to stop and write favorite lines down.

If you think a story about two women in their mid fifties, and just sixty won’t have spice in, you’d be absolutely wrong, because this does. It’s soft, awkward, yearning, wanting, and damn hot. Trust me to hit the motel scene while sitting in the physical therapy waiting room 🥵

So if you’re looking for a book to read, and enjoy contemporary romance about coming out later in life, and falling for your best friend then I 100% recommend this story. Enjoy!
