Yup. Been testing Smart Smoothing in Pimax Play v2.02. It works now like Meta ASW or Steam Reprojection. The old version would only smooth the frame rates but it won't try to sustain at your refresh rate. The new version, once it is enabled, it will lock at half of the frame rates of your refresh rate. It looks good too. Not blurry at all. I do see some minor artifacts.
Last night I noticed something strange while testing my Super 50 with AMS2. The Steam VR resolution takes precedent over the Pimax Play resolution. I couldn't get up to 90 fps no matter what resolution I used in Pimax Play. When I set to 4k per eye in SteamVR (with 90% image quality), I could get 90 fps. So far, most games tend to ignore the Steam VR resolution.
Still trying to understand the correct way to setup the force feedback since there aren't that many profiles for MSFS 2024. The game telemetry is connected to the Moza software since I can see the telemetry numbers moving around. I assume I have setup the AB6 correctly.
Experience so far is interesting since I have been using the VKB stick since the game came out and have over 700 hours on it. I could barely mount it on my desk and I have to remove my drawer. I have a racing rig but don't want to touch it or modify too much just for flight sim.
Flying the helicopter is even more fun now and easier too.
I can't believe it. Been testing my Super 50 PPD with MSFS 2024. I wasn't happy with my setting until I tried to set my DFR to 25. By default is at 50. I bumped my resolution to 90%. Now, I can run MSFS 2024 with DLAA at 45 fps with only 80% GPU load. Smart smoothing is enabled. Apparently, most of us got smart smoothing wrong. It will kick in only if your frame rate is more than half of your refresh rate. I have been capping my frame rate at 45 at 90 Hz. Now, is 48 or 50. Much smoother now.
I still don't understand why the game can't run any faster if I still have GPU headroom. It seems like 47 to 50 fps is the max it can go. Don't know where is the bottleneck. My CPU is a Ryzen 7 7800x3d. I have a 5090.
If you are using or have been using the Crystal Super, do you have any issues? I have been using the Crystal Light for a while and very happy with it. Micro Center has the Super on sale for $1200. I picked it up this Saturday. I am still waiting for my official prescription inserts to come this week. In the meantime, I used couple of small foam/sponge and double side tape to hold the PCL inserts (the lens only) on the Super. Both uses the same size lens anyway. I think I dialed it in pretty well. Everything is sharp and clear and no strange distortion or uneven sharpness. My eyes feel very comfortable.
Here is one thing I notice with MSFS 2024. The game does not look as sharp using the same resolution for both PCL and Super, which is around 3800 pixel resolution per eye. My theory is that the PCL has to super sample the resolution whereas the Super does not. Super with under 80% image quality, it looks slightly blurry than PCL at 85% in MSFS 2024. When I bumped the resolution to 90% with the Super, the headset shines BUT my performance tanks HARD. Dynamic foveated rendering works really well with the super obviously. That's the only way I can run the game at 85% to 90% image quality without issues. Of course, my 5090 is in constant 99% GPU load.
Is almost like the Super can't delivery better image quality unless you can render the game at 85% to 90% image quality. We are talking about near 5k per eye.
Finally tested my Crystal Super 50ppd that I got from Microcenter when it is on sale for $1200. I already have the PCL. While I am still waiting for my prescription inserts coming in this Friday, I managed to adapt my PCL ones to the Super. Same size but the mounting system is different. I just used 3 small foam blocks to elevate it and tape it down to the edge of the lenses. It seems to work just as good.
I am not seeing any distortion. No uneven sharpness. The panel is bright and I have to tone down the brightness to 80%. Effective horizontal FOV is 110. Vertical is 88. Is sharper and clearer than my PCL, maybe 20% more. I have to swap my Studiofoam straps and my DMAS earphones and to test more. I don't want to go crazy with testing until my inserts come in on Friday.
Is nice the Super comes with a QC check lists and the person checking them. The unit is brand new and still in the Pimax original brown shipping box from China. It was manufactured in 11/2025.
Couple of months back I was reading about using a computer prescription inserts over your normal driving prescription for your Pimax headset. I thought I tested it out. For $70, why not. 😄 I am near sighted at -6.5 for both eyes. A computer prescription would be -5.5 (divide the ADD value by 2 and add that to your driving prescription).
Just tested MSFS 2024 and No Man Sky. Is clearer and sharper for sure. The improvement is subtle. Words and objects have a slightly greater definition. The clarity has a slightly great impact or pop. Right now, I need to adjust the individual PD offset since I am using a different brand of inserts from HonsVR. Oh, their insert holders are a pain in the ass to remove. I had to yank that plastic out hard while pressing the lens down. Glad I didn't break it. One of the feet is already chipped.
Updated: Yes, is sharper overall.
Haven't flown with SU5 yet. Because live weather is missing in the career mode. At best, only available in certain region. Right now, is in South America. Two, missing tons of medium cargo missions. The current missions (handful of cargo and VIP charters) have no weather at all. All clear sky and no clouds and wind. Tried uninstalled and reinstalled the sim. No luck. Rebuilding the rolling cache, no luck. Don't know WTF is wrong with this sim. Is on PC and I am at level 300.
I am planning to get the Moza AB6 flight system. Right now, not so much since the sim is still broken.
