Opinion/comment
Hello
I'm commenting on this as a Wattpad user since 2013
I too am unhappy with Wattpad's new regulations regarding certain content, which was free on the old Wattpad. Although I don't understand their new changes, I accept them to some extent since the app/page was created for youth/young adult content. There are other options for reading mature content with more freedom, but all of them also have rules regarding adult characters for certain topics.
So my suggestion is, since I'm also part of Ao3 and I think it's messed up that those who move from here are causing a ruckus when they don't even read the rules and the allowed content in Ao3or look for tutorials to block certain tags or content that they don't like or accept, Ao3 was created specifically as an archive for fanfics, but aside from that it was created to circumvent the literary censorship of most countries Therefore, voluntary donations of money are made periodically to continue supporting the project for its maintenance and updating.
I'm not scolding anyone or anything like that, just expressing my opinion as a user of both platforms
If you no longer like Wattpad's rules, you can look for other sites/apps that accept freedom in mature content such as Booknet, Quotev, Fanfiction.net, inkitt, etc,
- Learn how to use Ao3 if you want to stay on that platform without bothering people to download content that is allowed there.
Or they could do the same as the creators of Ao3: create a site similar to Wattpad with the freedom we lost, and accept donations for maintenance, updates, and all that, so we can have what we wanted. We want to, I repeat, understand the frustration of the changes, but I feel that as adults, most of us should be reasonable and not attack fanfiction allowed on different platforms.
