This Wattpad author took 11 years to update her book

I had no clue this book was in my offline reading list until I was notified that a new chapter was updated 😭

The dedication to write even after 11 years is astounding imo.

Curious: do Wattpad writers polish their chapters before publishing?

When I wrote for Wattpad around 2013-2016, whenever I wrote my chapters, I went through the usual “first draft then go back and revise/polish” process. It’s no secret to writers that a polished chapter means that your readers get the impression that the author has put significant effort to get them more intrigued, regardless if you’re a plotter or a pantser. But I feel like some writers on Wattpad writers expect to rush out a chapter, post it, see little activity, then ask the sky why they’re not getting thousands of reads and likes.

So, how polished are your stories so far?

I had a double shot of this today, two new reviews were just posted on The Last Philosopher: Part Two 🎉

What genre do you read?

I'm a fanfic writer but I've recently been thinking of writing my own book. But I feel like most people read smut/dark romance only. So my question is, if I were to write a clean book and if the genre doesn't even happen to be romance, would people still read it? What genres do you personally like reading?

A new app for immersive storytelling looking for early writers/beta testers

https://preview.redd.it/v8967azrub2h1.png?width=1526&format=png&auto=webp&s=4504841363a00948cd01d711723eb0ce5f621c35

Hi everyone, Quentin Merabet here.

Disclaimer: this is NOT an ad. I'm not selling anything.

I’m currently building Loreum, a new app for immersive storytelling, and I’m looking for a small group of early writers and beta testers to help shape it.

The idea really started from a simple feeling: stories on the internet haven’t really evolved in years. Most platforms still treat stories like plain text on a page (+ ugly ads), even though creators today grow up with sound, video, games, fandom culture, TikTok, YouTube, interactive media, etc.

Not even talking about the opaque monetization system and the reading experience full of ads.

With Loreum, writers can create stories using:

  • text
  • images
  • sounds/music
  • videos
  • choices (routing to different chapters)
  • questions (routing to different chapters based on good/bad answer)

Imagine a horror story with cracking sounds while the character hides in the dark. Or readers choosing what a character says next in a romance scene. Or hiding clues in a thriller through interactive questions.

The goal is NOT to replace pure writing. It’s to give writers new "building blocks" while keeping stories fast, emotional, and easy to read on mobile.

I’ve worked as an actor, director, and screenwriter before starting this project, and I genuinely believe online storytelling is still at day one. (not sure you should google me tho 😭)

The beta is completely free. No ads (never will, ads are ugly).

If you’d like to try it early:

🍎 iPhone users → Here's the testflight link (that's the app Apple use for testing) : https://testflight.apple.com/join/4FrpfH2r

🤖 Android users → send an email to contact@loreum.co using the email associated with your Google Play account so I can send you the invite!

Would genuinely love to have some of you involved this early ✨

Thanks a lot! Here to answer ANYTHING. Please don't hesitate!

This is my first story and I'm genuinely not sure about how it is.

Therefore, I'm looking for some brutally honest review so that I can improve my writing.

Thank you everyone who's ready to give this story a chance!

Looking for genuine R4R’s

Hey everyone! 😊

I’ve finally caught up on most of the books I’m currently reading, so I’m looking to add a few more to my list and hopefully find some genuine R4Rs along the way.

A little about me: I’m 28 and have been writing since I was around 13/14. My current novel, The Shape of His Absence, is 29 chapters in and falls into the mystery/psychological thriller/slow-burn romance category.

I’m hoping to pick up around 5–7 new books in similar genres. Romance is usually my go-to, whether it ends happily or not, but I’m definitely open to exploring other genres too!

I’d really like this to be a genuine exchange. If either of us isn’t connecting with the other person’s book, I’d much rather we just say so honestly instead of forcing it 😊

If you’re interested, leave a comment with your book title plus a short description of the genre and plot, and I’ll get back to you!

Let's play a little writing game

Tell us what your story is about in a few lines, but do it from the antihero perspective. A mean side character, the "bad guys", whoever is frowning upon your hero's adventure.

What do they have to say about your book?

Want to try? 👀 It's a fun writing exercise and a different perspective to your promo, links can be provided upon request!

***
I'll begin, as an example 😁

Adan, the heroine's older brother: "So Dalia and Janik think this this their story, but it's not. There is a freaking vampire rebellion coming that I will be dealing with while they get all Twilight on each other. And I don't even care about politics! But seriously: what kind of best friend hooks up with your sister? And why do all women hate me?"

Chapter Help!

Why is the first chapter so difficult to write? I’ll start on it and scroll off, write some more, and scroll off again. It’s driving me crazy because I want to write but I’m struggling to write!

Looking for stories with little support to read

Hey! I'm in the mood for a read, but I haven't found anything yet, so I decided to ask here. I'm looking for stories with few reads and low ratings, so feel free to leave your own stories here if you'd like. I'm looking for something fantasy or mystery, but I'm open to any genre! If possible and language isn't a major issue.

Also, I LOVE fanfics, so throw those in too.

I will read everything you send me, but seeing the amount, it may take me a while, hahaha. Now I won't lack for things to read!

I'm putting all the stories in a list. Then I'll put them on a roulette wheel and read them from there... So, yes, I think it's the fairest method.

If you think I take too long to read your stories, you can talk to me privately, no problem.

Should I Work on My Book or My Game?

Like the title says.

Before I was a writer, I was a game-dev working on my video game for the past two years.

I loved it then and I still do. But, I also love writing.

Though I don't have the time for the both of them.

So, should I give up writing or game-development? Or neither?

SideNote: I probably shouldn't ask this question in a writing-sub lol.

Spicy Coming of Age 18+ book Recommendations

I just joined Wattpad and have been looking for a good coming-of-age romance with more 18+ (late bloomer) characters, kind of in the same emotional space as Forever by Judy Blume. I haven’t really found many books that hit that mix of messy relationships, growing up, and romance, so I started writing one myself just for fun.

I’d love recommendations if anyone knows books on Wattpad with that kind of vibe. I’m also trying to read more in the genre to improve my own writing. Would be interested in r4r too.

my book if anyone wants to so a v4v r4r

25+ in wattpad. What do you read?

Hi,

I saw another post whether adults are in wattpad to read and I saw a lot of comments.

I am also an adult and some of the stories are so childish for me. Yesterday I started reading a mafia book because it had 65 million plus reads. When I started reading, it was a love triangle, and the fmc had feelings for someone who tried to assault her. I mean, why? 😭

So the adult readers of wattpad, what stories did you love reading?

For anyone feeling like quitting…

When I started university, my first professor said I was a terrible writer. She told me I was one of the worst students she ever had the ‘pleasure’ of teaching. My writing was a mess. I sat there for two hours taking her personal feedback saying how I wouldn’t be a good writer. I cried. I felt like my world ended at seventeen.

I spent the next five years up until my last two months before graduation not bothering to write again. I had dozens of ideas and notes for books I could write and just didn’t. Until I did.

Six weeks before my graduation I spent every second drafting, hand writing, and plotting ideas for this book. I wrote over 150,000 words, 50 chapters and uploaded right after graduation. I didn’t think much of it until my first month received 3k reads.

I spent months watching the reads go up and it was constantly exciting. By the end of 2025 (a year and a half after my initial release) my book hit 100k reads. I couldn’t even express the joy I felt. It was by far my proudest accomplishment.

I never had that professor again, never saw her after that.

But it feels good knowing I created something people get to enjoy. Writing is a great form of art. Please always keep writing and reading x

Finished my first 20 chapters!!

Almost 30k words, I finished arc 1 of my book, Cocoa Hooves! This is the farthest I’ve ever gotten while working on a project! And I anticipate writing a lot more for the next arcs to come!
