I have a terrible grasshopper problem! They are destroying as many buds as they can, and then if a flower actually blooms, they shred it. Any ways I could prevent this from happening? Insecticidal Soap didn’t really do much for me….
Here’s a rather crazy bouquet I took my neighbors. You can see some of the flowers that are shredded.
Planning on using this recipe (from Ball’s canning recipe book) tomorrow, but I only have pint and pint and 1/2 sized jars. Would it be safe to do the pint size or do I need to stick to the recommended jar size? Not really sure if I would need to change the processing time or anything. I read some of the different sections from the book, but it didn’t mention anything about this (that I could find).
I wanted to check before I do it because I’d rather not make my family sick 😆
I have found grasshoppers and these beetles munching on my zinnias. Any tips on how to get rid of them? They’re stripping the plants of all their leaves…
mega carrot from my harvest today 🙌🏻
can’t wait for this baby to finish up 🙌🏻 it’s been so much fun watching it grow 🎊 it’s a crimson sweet watermelon 🍉
My grandma isn’t on reddit, but her garden is worth sharing! It’s my favorite place to be! ❤️
Side note: I’m OBSESSED with her zinnias 😍
ETA: Not pictured is her beautiful brick borders and “glass garden,” all of which she has either claimed second hand or found at the dump. Her creativity and ability to give things another chance at life is inspiring! ❤️
Hey all! I’m growing a rather large garden and my plan is to can most of my tomatoes, so I hopefully won’t have to buy tomato products at the store. I would love any recipe suggestions for things like:
- Marinara Sauce
- Diced tomatoes/tomato sauce
- Pizza Sauce
- Whatever else might be good!
I just got a pressure canner and am looking forward to trying it out. I also have the Ball Home Preserving book. Thanks for all your help! ❤️
Hey all! New to this group but had a quick question about a worm I saw in my patio this morning. It was about 6-8 inches long and sort of flat… It looks different than other worms that I have seen in my garden and compost.
Eastern Kansas for location reference
I got a wildflower seed mix from a wedding as a wedding favor and it was a few years old, but i decided to plant it and see what happens. Any clue what these could be? The packet was unlabeled and my curiosity is killing me😆
I am growing a bigger garden this year with hopes of canning most of the produce. Any advice for what equipment I need to get? I have a canning kit (tongs, funnel, measuring spoon, maybe some other things???) that someone gave me for my birthday, but really don’t know what else I need to get/invest in. Would love some guidance as I’m just starting out!
EDIT: i’m specifically wanting to pickle cucumbers and peppers, as well as processing tomatoes to make things like: salsa, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, ketchup, etc.
