Denied by Scotiabank for a skid steer loan because we’re under 2 years old. Options?

Hey everyone, running a small landscaping/excavation business in BC. We've been operating for about 16 months, cash flow is healthy, but we need to buy a used Bobcat ($45k) to keep up with summer contracts. Went to our primary bank and got hit with a wall because we don't have 2 full years of audited financials yet. Are there any reliable alternative lenders in Canada that don’t have insane 25%+ interest rates?

Update: I tried going down all the scotia bank, government programs, Moneda, East West, and Equipease.

so far it Kyle at Equipease feels like the most competent person to help me. I'll try to keep you guys updated on when and how it went once we get our equipment.

Is $25k fair for a 4-car driveway resurface?

Hey everyone, looking for a quick sanity check.

My driveway is a total eyesore—lots of salt damage and pitting from the winter, and some shifting that’s caused some ugly cracks. I looked into a full rip-out and repour, but I was quoted nearly $30,000 just to get back to basic concrete, which seems wild.

I just had Chenoa from Sierra Stone out to give me a quote on doing a stone overlay instead. For a 4-car driveway, she’s quoting about $25,000.

It looks like a great product—supposedly handles the Okanagan freeze-thaw cycle better since it’s porous—but it’s still a big chunk of change. Has anyone here worked with her or had Sierra Stone done on a larger driveway? Is that price about what I should expect for this area?

Appreciate any feedback or photos if you’ve had it done!

Looking at our hydro bills and honestly, I’m over it. I’ve been looking into solar for our place in Glenmore but every site looks like a generic ad.

Is it actually worth it with the sun we get here? Also, if you’ve had a good experience with a local crew that didn't ghost you halfway through, let me know. Cheers.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to get my concrete sealed this spring. I have a driveway, some stairs, and a pool deck that all need some love.

Given our lovely 40°C summers and the fun freeze-thaw cycles in the winter, I want to make sure I do this right so it actually lasts.

Any recommendations appreciated!

Hey everyone, I live out of town and my parents live in Kelowna.

They’re getting to the point where they need a bit more support, so I'm looking for any recommendations you guys have.
