Kitten; ik vind het een prachtig vak. In mijn woning aardig wat meters moeten maken en gaandeweg steeds beter geworden met online tips.

Zelfs mijn YouTube feed staat vol met video’s over kitten waar ik helemaal in kan verdwalen.

Het lijkt mij dan ook best een mooi vak om te doen, echter als ik rondkijk zie ik salarissen tussen de 2.5-3k voorbij komen. Daar kom ik inmiddels mijn bed niet meer voor uit helaas.

Het alternatief is voor jezelf te beginnen, echter, is hier wel markt voor? Ik kan mij voorstellen dat de meeste kit klussen hem veelal in sanitair/keuken/vloeren zitten en vaak door de vaklui zelf “erbij” wordt gedaan.

Enige ervaringen van/met zelfstandige kitters?

I've worked full time as a SWE until the end of 2023. Haven't really stayed up to date too much after this with the industry and I'm wondering where it's at right now.

Taking you back to late 2023: I worked mostly on projects with a modern tech stack, React / Next.js for the frontend and often Node.js / .NET Core on the backend.

At that time I saw a shift going back to a more modular monolith kind of approach rather than working with separate SPA's and dozens of microservices from the get-go. Also the idea of a more domain driven development seemed to get more favoured, including neat integrations where models from the backend where automatically generated by the OpenAPI spec and such. People where finally starting to see E2E tests carried a lot of value and gave more bang for your buck compared to unit tests.

At that time the use of AI was quite limited: Copilot was a mess and thus we tried prompting in web UI, often not leading to great results.

Fast forwarding almost three years later, what has changed? I'm mainly interested in:

- Has this shift modular monolith approach trend continued?

- What are things you specifically have noticed changing since then?

- What is a typical workflow for 80% of the devs to involve AI in your daily work?

LLMs often recommend something like the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano or Orin NX for this type of application.

I'm wondering if there are other platforms that would be better suited for a deployment like this.

The device needs to:

• Operate outdoors 24/7, including low temperatures and varying weather conditions
• Receive 4K 60 FPS video from a camera
• Encode/process and stream the footage to a remote server
• Use a cellular M2M SIM connection for the uplink
• Ideally be reliable enough for long-term unattended deployment

What hardware/platforms would you consider for this?

Ik ga voor het eerst zelf een tegelwandje boven het keukenblad zetten. Op zich niet heel spannend, maar na wat zoeken kom ik er niet goed uit welke tegellijm echt bekendstaat als beginnersvriendelijk.

Vooral belangrijk: de lijm moet niet te snel drogen, zodat je wat meer verwerkingstijd hebt dan een professional nodig heeft.

De tegels zijn 30x60 cm keramische wandtegels. Ondergrond is beton met voorstrijk. Heeft iemand aanraders qua lijm of type lijm?
