We can’t be friends if you haven’t watched The Summer I Turned Pretty.

S3, Episode 7 aired a year ago and was a fan favorite, not the least because of how amazing Lola Tung looked in this iconic dress and luminous makeup! That dress went so many places - from the bar to the beach, to hell and back. Flawless.

The moments were heartbreaking but Lola’s look was breathtaking. Serving face and ruin in a $70 dress. 👑🤏💗

Twitter is talking about it. I guess we can too. But wow, I don’t know what to say.

Belly’s first time with Conrad, did it bring Conrad to tears or like, did Belly take his soul in this moment? I’ve seen fan theories that he was a virgin, too, and I just find that difficult to fathom plus I think Nicole mentions them having been together like that in the past.

But my god, Conrad’s expression here is immaculate. His devotion sublime. Belly, girl, how good you had it!

Does this add anything to our understanding of this scene? It was already such a sweet, perfect and beloved moment. Is he crying or am I crying? Probably me

It’s way too early to know what’s going on with the movie Please, since it seems several of the principals have been spotted everywhere except on set.

Lola was in New York; Connor’s been seen in Toronto; David Jonsson was in LA. And I don’t know where Gracie Abrams or Tom Burke are. I’m guessing they’re all taking a break between locations.

When the action gets going again, I hope Lola and Connor actually get to work together as scene partners. Maybe they can even do a TikTok where she calls him Connie, baby. 🔥🔥

The 2nd time Lola in dress mode went viral. (We all remember the first!) Her style in a Dilara Findikoglu sheer dress garnered millions of views, millions of likes and basically gagged the internet (please get out of her DMs). Really hoping she gets new endorsements or project roles from this fashion moment. And a big thank you to her stylist Britt! 🩶🤍💜

Not just talented and sweet, but also gorgeous! Chris pretty sure to have lots of red carpet glamour for his upcoming film projects!! Can’t wait to see his Hollywood leading man era.

Every new YA series lead male character almost immediately gets compared to the summer standard that is Conrad Fisher, portrayed in all his yearning glory by the nearly incomparable Chris Briney.

It’s almost unfair to the new roster but Prime Video declared this would be the summer of obsession and unleashed a bunch of new YA series with hot male leads - yes, Off Campus was technically released in spring (May 13), but the comparisons began right away.

So is anybody obsessed? Are fans carrying around these latest characters in a way that co-opts their romantic ideals and steals their heart? Which male leads, if any, have come close to the standard and in what way? And is it at all fair to ask at this point?!

I know my answer - none even come close, sadly. Sterling Point offered a frison of familiarity but the yearning was so short-lived.

This is kinda funny. Checked IMDb for any updates to the movie - and looks like a new cast member has been added to the main listing.

I’m certain Andrew acted his boots off as a first responder and possibly saved the day in Cousins, but this seems absurdly prominent billing lol. Did the whole town burn to the ground? Well, welcome to the crazy Andrew! It’s a firehose of fun!! 🤣

Also I did notice a minor change to the name of the film. Changed from The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie to The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie

All of this Marvel casting news had me thinking about this fan cast I saw for Lola Tung as Jubilee in the new X-Men movie that’s set to film next year. We’ve already seen that Sadie Sink (Jean Grey) is cast as is Samara Weaving (Emma Frost) and Kit Connor (Cyclops).

Lana Condor was the original Jubilee in X-men: Apocalypse but that’s been awhile. And Jubilee is usually a teenager so Lana may have aged out although she did say she would love to reprise the role.

Other actresses have also been reported to be in the mix and the film seems to be casting now. Have not heard Lola auditioned or anything like that! But MCU would certainly be an exciting opportunity!!

Most Swifties know the lore of Track 5 on Taylor Swift’s albums - typically viewed as the most emotional and vulnerable song on the album. Which brings me to Jenny Han, a certified Swiftie who must know this legend - so did she align Episode 5 to be the most emotionally vulnerable of each season?

As we mark the 1-year anniversary of what is widely viewed as the best episode of S3, if not the entire series, its placement is probably not a coincidence.

Both Conrad POV (S3) and Jeremiah POV (S2) happen in Episode 5. In S1, Episode 5 is when Belly breaks up with Cam, then Conrad rejects Belly and then she kisses Jeremiah. That’s a lot of emotional devastation! For us!!

I don’t know if Jenny has talked about it, but seems kinda obvious. What do you all think?

Lola recently cleaned up her grid, archiving or deleting dozens of posts with some possibly being endorsements that have ended. She also removed her pronouns and the little ⚡️

Maybe she’s getting new endorsements? Or maybe she’s just doing what lots of people with IG accts do!

Lola’s costar in Please, David Jonsson was just announced as the new Black Panther, which is super exciting for his career!

And Garrett Wareing was in The Long Walk with David and also in Chasing Summer with Lola, who’s now in Please with David.

Obviously Lola is not cast in Black Panther - but does being in a movie with the upcoming star of a huge Marvel franchise confer any side benefits? How much do these types of connections matter for actors?

For example, many of us are excited for Chris in The Julia Set and part of that is knowing his costar is Chase Infiniti, who is not only beautiful and talented but is also a very hot up-and-coming Hollywood star. 

This has a lovely voiceover from singer Lexi Jayde, who has a debut album Lover Girl that’ll be out in August. The first song drops tomorrow. I don’t know her music at all but her real-life description of being a lover girl fits Belly so well. I could see her new song - I’ve Missed You Longer - making it in the movie! Can definitely see it in Bonrad edits! Seems every new album this summer has a Conrad or Belly-coded song.

I’ve seen comments criticizing how Belly moves her head. That her breath probably stinks. Ridiculing her appetite for sweets. Questioning how she always gets gifts - on her birthday! Mocking her athleticism - she doesn’t run fast enough to the train. Doubting her intelligence - how there’s no way she’s smart enough to be a sports psychologist. Just so many randomly cruel perspectives couched as thoughtful analysis or simple questioning. But it’s all the same undertone - hate for Belly. Meanwhile Conrad is nearly without fault.

I asked AI to analyze the posts and comments in this sub to see if I was imagining the heavy bias. It found there were 5x more posts expressing dislike/hate for Belly compared with Conrad. And 6x more comments. 5,000 comments criticizing Belly. Just 800 Conrad.

What’s the point of being excited for a movie? Conrad’s not gonna marry himself. He’s marrying a dimwitted brunette with slow legs, bad breath and a sweet tooth. And he’s happy about it.

Happy Place and Better Than The Movies are both set for Netflix and some book fans want Chris as Wyn and Lola as Liz so bad that even the authors agree! (Lola’s fancast is controversial bc a certain vocal group of fans are anti-Asian and base the casting on ethnicity. But that’s a tangled topic for another post.)

While I totally get why both of them would be fan favorites for romance book adaptations, do we think they will be interested in doing another romcom anytime soon? Chris, in particular, doesn’t want to be typecast but the romance genre for is booming. Even Tom Holland wants to do a romcom!

Emily Henry recently said that serious actors would rather “pretend to be a Beatle than pretend to be in love” and I thought that was so interesting!!

We make this a lot in summer with whatever mozzarella is on hand and our own basil and farmers market tomatoes. Since we have it often, I’m always trying new plating ideas to keep it fun!

So Lola’s stylist said in a recent interview that she and Lola are excited about playing with method dressing for The Young People. What is that? It’s developing looks that are connected to the character or role that an actor is promoting. It’s what Margot Robbie did for Barbie - lots of pink - and more recently what Zendaya is doing for The Odyssey - goddess like hair and makeup.

Lola’s look for the premiere for Forbidden Fruits seemed a little method - it had witchy vibes. While still horror genre, TYP takes place at a school - Lola appeared to be wearing a school uniform in the only photo from the set I could find. So what will they pull off for TYP? Schoolgirl goth chic? Dark plaids and chiffon for fall? What would you like to see?
