photo 2: most recent x-ray

i stepped off the bottom stair wrong at 01:00 on 02/07/26. i have a long history of fractures due to a genetic disorder that means my bones rival glass lmao. despite this, of the 40+ fractures i’ve had, i have never been so certain of a fracture so fast + i have never cried so much, for so long.

i don’t really remember the week following the injury, but my ORIF surgery was on 08/07/26. i spent 3hrs being monitored in post-op recovery cuz no amount of fentanyl could stop the pain or the tears. i don’t really get it – 6 years ago i had emergent spinal surgery for cauda equina syndrome n it’s honestly not even in the same ballpark ?

i’m now in my 5th plaster cast + saw my consultant on 06/08/26. they said they’re pleased w/ my x-rays so far, so i’m trying to hold onto that. the plan was that i’d see them again this week so they could decide whether to transfer me to a boot + begin the v cautious transition to gradual weight bearing, but unfortunately there was no available appts so i’m waiting to hear back.

if i haven’t already typed too much + any of u have the energy to do so, i’d really appreciate some input / advice on a couple things ?

  1. how are u coping w/ the uncertainties of recovery + the anxiety from that ? my usual strategies aren’t cutting it, but i don’t want to give in to the spiral.

  2. how are u managing to do things so that u still feel.. like a person ? lately i feel like i’m barely existing, my motivation is shot, + i’m struggling to find things that feel meaningful to occupy the time, so if u’ve found anything helpful, i’d love to know ?

it’s rough being back in limbo due to my body’s penchant for fuckery, but i’m beyond grateful for this community. i’ve been reading yr posts since the days after my ORIF, n knowing that sm of u are smashing recovery even in the face of setbacks is just really great 🧡 thank u in advance :-)

two fingers

face-first at the equator, mesmerised
with arms up-stretched in gentle caress,
the earth shifts.

tracing the old and surveying the new
through shared breath; shouldering meridians,
the map twists.

adrift in the tropic of Capricorn,
an outline teased. softly glistening,
the tides lift.

i stare into the face of god. two fingers
graze her depths; beckoning. surface-to-air,
my gaze fixed.

incessant interruptions, misogynist assumptions, & unwarranted ‘corrections’ – request for support w/ interpersonal feminist engagement

i don’t know exactly when i started, but i’ve been keeping a mental tab of the times in which men will regularly, actively

  1. interrupt me just to doubt the validity or truth in the things i say
  2. refuse to believe what i’ve said until they’ve ‘factchecked’ it (incl. answers to questions they’ve specifically asked)
  3. insist on ‘correcting’ me despite what i’ve said being demonstrably true

it doesn’t matter if what i’ve said is time-sensitive, inconsequential, or regarding smth i experience like the effects of lesbophobia; it’s constant. it makes me feel so disgustingly small that i question why the few men in my life bother to engage me at all if this is how little they think of me.

i know many of us experience this same, frequently-unexamined misogyny our entire lives, w/ some of us even internalising the idea that we are inherently unworthy of being believed as small children. i’m not sure what exactly shifted in the last couple of years, but this specific form of misogyny seems to have become a sort of trigger ? so when it happens, i’m ashamed to say that instead of calling it out for what it is, i’ve started to just swallow it.

i can’t keep letting this happen, so i want to ask other feminists how u address / combat / engage w/ this specific form of misogyny – particularly in the context of irl interpersonal relationships ? i need some outside input, so in whatever form that might take, i’m greatly appreciative. also if anybody knows of any radical feminist texts that specifically address this, i’d be grateful for the recommendations.
