Irish Volunteers Officer, Second Dublin Battalion, C.1915

The Second Battalion of the Dublin Brigade went on to defend the Jacob’s Biscuit Factory during the 1916 Easter rising the following year.

There was mass confusion within the Second Battalion during the rising, most members of the Second Battalion believed the rising had been called off due to the British discovering their plans, causing only a fraction of the Battalion to show up for the rising.
Only 150-180 members of the battalion were left to hold Jacob’s Biscuit Factory.

Upon invading the factory, the battalion immediately ejected the few working staff members, smashed out the windows, and barricaded the openings using thousands of heavy bags of flour from the factory floor.

This uniform represents an officer of B company.
