Delivering unwelcome news

Think of some times you had to deliver some unwelcome news to your team, such as lean year for raises/bonuses, or RTO - something along those lines that is disappointing, a definite bummer.

You know you're going to make most or all of them very unhappy, but it's coming from above your head.

How do you prepare yourself for the psychological toll it's going to take on you, and also for supporting the team in their unhappiness, especially if they blame the messenger?

Are some shows/episodes abridged in any way?

I'm new to BritBox and glad to have it in my streaming lineup.

My Downton box set is packed away somewhere, so I started watching on BritBox, just to have something on in the background while I was doing chores around the house. A couple of times, I thought there might be some dialog missing here and there.

I'm in the US and I know that when Downton was on Masterpiece here, we sometimes got re-edited episodes that were sliced up and put back together to fit the time slot. So now I'm wondering if BritBox is serving up those US versions to US customers?

What are the pluses / minuses of counter-offers - either making them, or accepting/rejecting them?

Oh for crying' out loud, Tony - she said she wasn't ready!

S4 E4 - No means no, dude. I mean, she tells you JUST last night she's not ready to move on, so you stalk her across the countryside by train, invade her home, invite yourself to stay over, pressure her to marry you or else you'll marry someone else, and then, when she keeps telling you "no", dramatically demand a kiss as your consolation prize.

Like that's going to convince her. Like your kiss is all that. 🙄

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. Carry on.

The latest Mrs. Bennet

I'm one of those yanks who has subscribed to BritBox just to see The Other Bennet Sister. I am surprised that the episodes are only 30 minutes. But I'm even more surprised at the characterization of Mrs. Bennet. She is so MEAN!

She's always been portrayed as thoughtless, clever and scheming but not intelligent, and quite lacking in self-awareness. And a bit over the top with her palpitations.

This woman is a departure. She's haughty and when she's unkind, she means it. She's not just blundering. She is intentionally cruel. It's something of a shock.

Well, on to E2. Perhaps she will improve?

Looking through modern eyes at how Knightly treats Emma like a child but ends up asking her to marry him... well, it's a little creepy. I'm wondering if this was common in those times - you're practically a fully grown man, the neighbors have a baby girl, you watch the child grow up, you correct her and scold her and disapprove of her... and suddenly you're in love? What the actual what the what!!!!!

And on a more humorous note, when we get to the part in the series where Jonny Lee Miller is barking, "Badly done, Emma!", I half expect him to bring out a rolled up newspaper and thwap her on the nose with it 🐶
