Please enlighten this fellow daoist on why sects do not care about mortals

A sect could dominate the cultivation world just by caring for mortals. Instead of treating mortals as ants, treat them as cattle. The sect should ensure that mortals are healthy and reasonably happy so that the mortal population grows. More mortals = more potential disciples = overall more talented and/or more numerous disciples = stronger sect.

Here is a detailed plan on how to improve the mortal population:

  1. SECURITY: Send low level disciples to take care of bandits and maintain security and order in mortal villages
  2. FOOD: If you can create flying swords and defensive arrays surely you certainly could mechanize farm work to guarantee abundant food for mortals
  3. HEALTH: If you can create all kinds of pills and heaven defying elixirs you surely could mass produce pills that deal with common illnesses and distribute them to mortals

Old monsters spend centuries in seclusion. This plan yields returns in decades. However, I have yet to see any sect do something like this.

Are sect elders idiots?
