theguardian.comQuestions about the subreddit rules
Some nice photos here have been removed by the mods recently because of their new rule about no bird feeding. The rule says “No bird feeding” and gives this link to back it up: https://birdlife.org.au/a-guide-to-feeding-wild-birds-in-australia/
But if you click that link you’ll see Birdlife Oz clearly states the following:
You can feed birds:
-Bird nectar mix
-Fresh fruit and vegetables
-Earthworms, mealworms and insects
-Seeds, nuts and grains
Then there’s a big photo of a king parrot enjoying a cherry tomato. I doubt it found that growing naturally in the wild.
So why not allow some photos of birds being ethically fed according to Birdlife’s guidelines? I’m sure quite a few of us enjoy them. And it might make others think twice about tossing bread crusts at ducks and mince at magpies.
At least take a vote on it. “Do you want to see pictures of birds being fed in accordance with Birdlife’s guidelines?”
Another question. Since I only ever see the “no bird feeding” rule being enforced on pictures here, what about rule #1? I have occasionally seen here pictures of birds that appear to be stressed or surprised by the presence of the photographer taking their pictures - especially night shots of nocturnal birds taken with a bright white flash pointed directly in their eyes. Will pictures like these be taken down too in future?
