Odd notification from app

We cruise in just over six weeks and in fact I just did online check in today. However, I have now twice recently gotten a notification from the app that pops up on my phone saying something to the effect of “Don’t let your trip sail away! Pay your balance now to avoid cancellation”.

I made the final payment nearly two months ago, and whenever I click on this notification it just takes me to the app and shows me my sailing. I assume I wouldn’t have even been allowed to check in if for some reason my payment wasn’t credited, and that this must just be a weird app glitch? It still makes me a bit nervous though…anyone else get this message after paying in full?

Little builder

I noticed my Quaker taking some of his longer shed feathers and attempting to sort of weave them thru the bars of his cage. I got him some plain popsicle sticks and left them on the floor of his cage. Within a few hours, he had made a little latticework in one corner of his cage, overlapping the sticks and occasionally weaving a feather in. If I disassemble the sticks and put them back in a pile, he will go to work weaving again. I know with most other types of birds you don’t want to encourage nest-building, but I’ve heard with Quakers it’s different because for them it can be more of a fun activity than a traditional hormonal nesting behavior. He seems to enjoy “building” more than playing with any of the toys I’ve bought him. Does anyone else’s Quaker like to do stuff like this, and if so what sort of “building materials” do you give them?

Recommendations for best way to sell a Rolex?

Would like to hear the opinions of those who have sold one or more pieces before, as I’ve decided to sell one of mine, but don’t really know where to begin. In general, is it better to sell to an online retailer, or a local brick and mortar dealer? Do most of the online retailers (such as Bobs) purchase your watch upfront, or is it more of a consignment situation where you wait for it to sell? I’m assuming that as an individual with no past sales history that it doesn’t make sense to try to sell it myself on a platform like chrono24 or eBay since I have no established reputation or review history? Any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated. For context, located in the Southwestern USA.

Update to post about canceling cruise

Several weeks ago I posted about how I had a cruise booked over Thanksgiving, but now needed to cancel it due to some family members’ change of plans. I had paid over $2,100 ($600+ of my own money and a $1,500 FCC from a non-working A/C in our cabin last year). I assumed the $1500 would be gone for certain, and even thought my cash would likely be gone too. I want to say thank you to the helpful people who encouraged me to call them and try to book something else rather than just cancel. Celebrity let me transfer both my FCC and cash, and I just paid a small fee. Better yet, my new cruise was nearly $2,000 cheaper overall for the same cabin, and it’s a better itinerary IMO (finally get to go to CocoCay!). The only slight downside is it’s now in October, which means I may have some “hurricane anxiety” watching the weather the week before we leave 😫.

His favorite pastime

I spend so much time buying different toys and trying to figure out what he likes, and nothing keeps his attention like playing with (and destroying) the zippers on my clothes.

Treatment letter from endodontist

I received this letter from an endodontist (not the one we usually refer to) regarding a patient of ours who went there due to him being in network with her insurance.

I feel bad crowning this tooth, as I feel his prognosis of “fair” is overly optimistic. I don’t want to throw him under the bus with the patient, but I don’t feel like I should just pretend everything is great either. He also maxed out her benefits so any restoration we do would be out of pocket for her.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cancelation protocol when paying with FCC and cash?

Hello all. I have tried extensively to research this topic but I can’t find any definitive answers on this specific subject, so hoping someone here might know.

My husband and I booked a 7 day cruise last December that is over Thanksgiving of this year. The total price was $6,400 for the two of us. We paid 10% ($640) initially upon booking, and then had a $1,500 FCC from a previous sailing applied to the balance in January. We haven’t made any other payments yet and still owe $4,260.

We recently found out that some relatives who were supposed to be overseas during Thanksgiving are now actually going to be in our town, and so we’d like to spend it with them. My question is about canceling this cruise and what we’ll get back (we didn’t book the fully refundable option). Will they keep our $640 and give us back the FCC? Or will they keep the FCC and we get the money refunded? Or do they possibly keep all of it and we get nothing back? Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks.

Just a vent…

Today is an exceptionally shitty day, but why does it always feel like with any kind of negative interaction, we as dentists come out on the losing end?

Was trying to renegotiate fees with BCBS (they are used by the largest employer in our area, so we sorta need to take them as everyone else does). Got told that since we got a big FIVE PERCENT raise from them 3.5 years ago, that makes us ineligible to receive another one (5%) until next year.

About an hour after that, got a letter from a patient demanding a refund “or else” in an obvious purely money grabbing scheme. Called malpractice lawyer and was told that even though it was clear I was 100% in the right, due to the relatively small amount (<$350), I should just pay her and “hope she takes it and doesn’t also put you thru a frivolous board complaint”.

Just feeling like a human punching bag today. I’m 18 years out this month, and rarely a day goes by that I don’t dream of retirement at least once. Thank you for reading.
