I remember that when I was a kid, I didn't really ship TamaHaru much when watching the anime (mostly because I couldn't take Tamaki seriously as a love interest due to being the comic relief and the whole"daddy" thing, plus Haruhi barely showed interest).
And then I started really liking the dynamic as a ship when I read the manga years later and I finally saw the appeal (sorry Hikaru). I guess its partly because there was more moments and development for both sides (I thought Tamaki was funny and sweet in the anime but man, I really loved his character in the manga for some reason). It was also fun seeing Haruhi's feeling of slight admiration evolve to panicking over feelings.
Idk if it was the material or growing up that changed my perspective,,, maybe both?
