31F, Canadian PR, Manager in tech/consulting in India — should I move to Canada even without a job?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some perspective from people who have moved from India to Canada recently, particularly those working in tech, consulting, data, or product/BA-type roles — and also from people who moved and later decided to return to India.

I’m 31F , single, and currently based in India. I have Canadian PR and now need to make the decision about moving to Canada

A little about my career:

I have around 8 years of experience with a Big 4 consulting firm in Gurgaon and am currently a Manager in Data & Analytics.

I was earlier in regulatory and policy and transitioned to a tech role with quite a bit of difficulty within the same firm. For the last few years, ive been working in a techno-functional role rather than purely business or purely technical.

I’m doing reasonably well professionally in India, and I think my career trajectory here is good.

My question is: would you move to Canada in my situation, even if you did not manage to secure a Canadian job before moving?

My biggest concern is the job market. I’m realistic that I may not immediately walk into an equivalent position and may need to enter at a lower level, which I could live with if there is a reasonable path upward. What worries me more is being unemployed for a long period or having to take a role completely disconnected from my experience.

Would love to hear some thoughts.

EDIT: my PR will expire in April 2027. So I have to go before that if I want to make the move. In terms of career, my role has been BA ( requirement gathering, documentation, BRD, UAT, validation etc)

People automatically address the man, even when the woman is asking the questions?

I keep noticing this, and it drives me absolutely insane.

Whenever I'm out with a man, whether it's a friend, relative, or colleague, almost everyone we interact with (waiters, shopkeepers, brokers, officials... anyone) instinctively looks at him when speaking. Even when I'm the one asking the question.

Once you notice it, you can't unsee it.

There was this one time when I was out with my aunt and uncle, they were wanting to buy a house. My aunt was leading the conversation and asking all the questions, yet every single time the broker answered, he turned to look at my uncle instead of her.

Eventually I couldn't take it anymore and said, "Sir, she's asking the questions, can you please look at her and answer'

He looked genuinely surprised as though he'd never realized he was doing it.

Has anyone else noticed this? If you have, how do you deal with it?

Has anyone found Prosci Change Management certification useful in Product Management roles?

For PMs who have completed the Prosci Change Management certification (or worked closely with colleagues who have), did you find it valuable in practice?

Specifically:

  1. Did it improve stakeholder management and driving adoption of new products/features?

  2. Has it been useful when leading transformation initiatives or cross-functional programs?

  3. Is it recognised or valued in product leadership roles?

I’m particularly interested in perspectives from people working on enterprise products, digital transformation initiatives, or roles involving significant organizational change.

Thanks!
