Exhaust repair advice

I have a 2017 Jetta GLI that, after driving through a flooded road (I had no alternative), there is a loud roar coming from the center exhaust pipe. I can't see any cracks or other damage, but the heat shield obstructs seeing the top of that pipe. It's very loud, and my area's towns all have ordinances to seize vehicles that exceed x dBm (mostly to bust people running open header or straight piped). The OEM replacement is an integrated part (center exhaust pipe + catalytic converter + down pipe), and costs $1412.

I only have 66k miles on it and already upgraded the brakes, with plans to install an aftermarket intake and exhaust (and possibly the larger turbo down pipe). The performance exhaust systems are $1500-2200.

I know there are aftermarket center exhaust pipes... cut the old one out and attach new with clamps. I am still getting excellent boost and engine performance, no OBDII codes, but I've read those non-OEM pipes can be a headache.

Would anyone who had the exact or similar problem (ie the cat or muffler was damaged), please advise what option you chose? Again, I still want to put a full performance exhaust system on it, but don't have funds for that yet. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

Temporal Cold War reached 1987?

I was watching Cheers, and in a single episode, there are two prominent figures from Star Trek.

Silik from ENT is sent back to 1987, appears as a human, posing as a court bailiff. But then Cmd. Data appears shortly after, also appearing human and in the same courtroom as Silik. Did the Temporal Cold War affect the 20th or 24th centuries? DIS' Dr. Kovich (better known as Agent Daniels) implies that Discovery missed out on the War.

Or perhaps it is one of those "before they were in Trek" discoveries. Brent Spiner (Data) would have just started S1 of TNG. John Fleck (Silik) doesn't make his first Trek appearance until 3 years later in TNG S4E24 "Minds Eye" as the Romulan Taibak.

Fun fact: Fleck is only one of 13 actors to appear at least once in TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

I love seeing actors who made multiple appearances in Trek (like Jeffrey Combs), especially several of them in another TV show or movie.
